  1. It may seem out of the realm of possibility now, but with talks with the Red/White Sox faltering, could Jim Hendry look at AJ Burnett as a potential trade candidate? The Marlins' asking price could be too steep, as I don't see a combination of major league ready pitchers plus pitching prospects that the Cubs could come up with unless Mitre/Hill and others are involved. I don't think Hendry wants to gamble their futures away for a rental. Any thoughts?
  2. Can always count on Casey for that ground ball out.
  3. The Braves Sunday jersey at home (bright red) really bothers me - their home whites are a lot better.
  4. In an ESPN.com chat, Steve Phillips "suspected" that the Reds would want a ML ready pitcher, nearly ready pitcher, and possibly a position prospect in exchange for Dunn. Personally, I think a package of Mitre, Wellemeyer, and an infield prospect is sufficient to help clear the Reds' outfield logjam, but I think that they might at least one prospect with a fairly high ceiling. A lineup of: Hairston Walker Lee Dunn Ramirez Burnitz Barrett Perez P would follow Any thoughts?
  5. ESPN Rumor Central is reporting (via the Trib) that the Cubs are interested in acquiring Pierre. Would Pierre really be an uprade over Hairston? His .319 OBP is about 40-50 points lower than it has been the past two years, although this seems to be brought about by a BA (.272) that would be a career low - however, Pierre has struck out slightly more times than he has walked this year (24 K to 21 BB). Does anyone feel his luck would change at Wrigley, and would the extra steals translate into an advantage over Hairston? IMO, I would rather see the extra difference paid for Pierre's salary possibly kept to acquire a reliever.
  6. As far as starting pitching goes, I wouldn't be so quick to trust Schilling next year during the spring when this is going to be played. Instead of Schilling, I would think about Willis or Buerhle (to get a lefty in there), based upon how quick they were pitching well this year. When I talk about Schilling, I mean not trusting his health - no doubt he's a great big game pitcher.
  7. I'd go urinate on the original Comiskey Park homeplate that's in the White Sox parking lot and put up the White Flag.
