  10. why? That's the first thing I thought of when that happened. I always referred to that type of hit as the "Baltimore Chop" i just think it's funny because the baltimore chop was done intentionally I see. Ya it was done intentionally. In Baltimore, John McGraw used to make sure that the groundskeepers kept the area in front of the plate very solid so his guys could do it.

  16. The "Pearless Leader", as he was known, was a BAD dude. Johnny Evers was small, but also not to be trifled with. To put those guys in perspective, there is a story told in "Crazy 08". Outfielder Jimmy Sheckard got into a verbal altercation with infielder Heninie Zimmerman in the clubhouse, and when Zimmerman said the wrong thing, Sheckard jumped at him. Zimmerman picked up the first thing to hand, and throws it...a bottle of ammonia. It smashed against Sheck's forehead and the corrosive fluid poured into his eyes. Fortunately there was a hospital directly across the street back then, which saved his vision, but he still missed thirty-nine games. Zimmerman also ended up in the hospital, thanks to the beating that Chance gives him.
