We’ve essentially gone from ‘literally anyone but Bass is defensible’ to ‘Bass pitched as well as we could have expected Strop/Cishek to pitch but I’m mad that he was the guy anyway’. I wouldn’t have been angry with Strop or Cishek there but the variables working against it don’t make me think it’s black and white. Yelling about which reliever gets the first out in the 6th inning of a regular season game is basically never going to be a binary good/bad decision. No, Bass is indefensible in that spot against that part of the lineup. He pitched as well as we could expect him to pitch, which is badly. It mattered in this game which I think is more important than tomorrow's game. Oh well, it won't matter in the long run we'll just have to clinch on September 20th instead of the 21st. However, looking at tomorrow, I almost wonder if Joe used the guys he did since he'll probably need 5 innings from the pen tomorrow with Chatwood going. I don't agree with that line of thinking but I can certainly see it playing a role. Walkwood tomorrow has to be a factor
