  1. What an idiotic statement. Cubs fans have stood by their team for nearly 100 freakin years. We are allowed to be harsh on under-acheivers after all the crap we have had to endure. So you're taking out 100 years of frustration onto one player or a couple players? I really don't think that Cubs fans are simply booing CPat's lack of production. Those boos are Cubs fans who are pissed off at Corey's stubborness. The kid is 5'9 180 lbs. and runs a freakin' 4'4 40 yard dash. But, he insists that he is a "middle of the order guy". CPATT is EGO driven and wants to become the next Barry Bonds, instead of trying to be the next Rickey Henderson. People who point to Patterson's power and say that he should be a slugger are idiots. I believe that if ANY player with decent athletic ability swung out of his shoes every at bat, they would hit the ball out of the park occasionally as well. If Tony Gwinn Geoge Brett, Mark Grace, Don Mattingly, Rickey Henderson, or Any decent athlete wanted to - they could have pop as well. Of course, it would be at the expense of good contact. So when I boo Corey - I'm booing his misunderstanding of how to play the game - not just the fact that he jumped out of his shoes swinging at the first pitch again.
  2. Just so you know that gesture was directed at some people that I won't insult the Cubs by calling them fans who were making some very insulting comments about Isabella, Pujols adopted daughter who has Down's syndrome. Nice try. If you want to believe that, go ahead. But like most Cardinals fans, you seem to think that your players can do no wrong and that their actions are always justified.
  3. Growing up in Central Illinois, it seemed to be about 50% Cubs fans, 40% Cards fans, and 10% the rest. The 10% included the Sox. Nobody seems to care about the Sox in Bloomington-Normal. I must say that I like the White Sox. To me they are a Chicago team - so I like them. I do get really annoyed at the divisive Sox fans who come out of the woodworks during interleague play and openly trash the Cubs and their fans. They seem to hate the Cubs as much as they like the Sox if not more. It's the whole inferiority complex thing. I imagine it is similar in New York. I would bet the house that Yankees fans generally don't give a crap about the Mets, yet every Met fan in NYC is more concerned with hating the Yankees, then they are the Braves, Phillies, or Nationals. That said, the Sox fans and the Chicago Media created this rivalry between the Cubs and Sox. To me, I am glued to the t.v. when the Cubs-Cards are on. The Cubs-Sox on the other hand, that is for the southsiders. Anyway, this is the first year in about five that I won't be going to Busch for Cubs-Cards. My friend just had to pick Saturday for a wedding date. Idiot.
  4. Matt Morris - I hate like no other Carpenter - Indifferent Supan - indifferent, but kind of like because of his baserunning in the WS Mulder - Indifferent Marquis - indifferent Taverez - hate King - indifferent Izzy - annoying Pujols - respect, but don't like since he did the "SHHH" gesture running the bases Grudz - like Eckstein - indifferent Rolen - like Walker - indifferent Edmonds - the worst Cardinal Ever. HATE His Friggin' Guts. Sanders - indifferent Molina/Diaz - indifferent
  5. Great thread, guys. I admittedly have mixed emotions on the whole deal. I certainly don't think that the Cubs owe Greg Maddux anything more than he is derserving. If the Cubs are out of it by Mid-August (And it certainly looks like they might be) - I have no problems with the team bringing up youngsters to get some major league experience. Also, if Maddux continues to pitch mediocre-at-best, and the team is still in the thick of it - you have to let him pitch and hope that he still has some outs left in his arm in 2006. The good news is that Greg Maddux isn't one who wants to pitch for a losing team, so regardless of his contract status - I don't feel that he will be here next year if: 1. He feels that he has nothing left; or 2. He feels that the Cubs are not going to contend in 2006. I'm sure that this will be a big issue as the season progresses.
