  1. is the only reason that hill is still in the minors is that dusty doesnt like him? maybe they are waiting for his era to go below 1.00 before they bring him up again. they have got to dump maddux soon and give hill a real shot again. Well Rusch is the real one who should be dumped, but yeah, it's absolutely pointless to have him in the minors at this point. He isn't going to learn anything new there. i agree about rush be he isnt in the rotation now and hill needs to be starting if/when he is called up.

  3. how about romero & deeds for jones?
  4. Vance, you know the Cubs will not trade Howry (or Eyre) this yr. Maybe next yr, but most likely in 2008 when he would be a soon-to-be FA. Why are getting people hopes up, like that? I would like to see if the White Sox would do a Rich Hill and Scott Williamson for Garcia type deal. i would much rather have hill than garcia or vasquez.
  5. how would a fox/kottaras platoon look in the future? would the padres be willing to give him up? how's his d btw? The Padres are very high on him and it may take more to get him than that. His numbers at AA: 276/394/451. Supposedly he has a cannon for an arm. He was promoted to AAA over the All-Star break and did well in his first game with Portland. I believe he has a cannon for an arm. Kottaras as a primary catcher with either Soto or Fox as a back-up would be decent. Kottaras is a left, so he would get the bulk of playing time. I like Kottaras as a player. I think the Padres view him as competing for a starting spot next spring and likely will try to pair him with a veteran catcher. If the Cubs could get him for just the cost of a middle reliever, even one like Howry, I'd do it. The only way the Padres do the deal is if they believe a SP like Vasquez is what is needed to finish the final playoff push. maybe the cubs could send pierre along with howry to the sox, the sox send garcia/vasquez & a good prospect like aldridge or quinn to the padres, and the cubs get kottaras from the pad's & haeger from the sox.

  7. it makes sense that someone in the majors is screwing with hill's head. his utter dominance at aaa and utter ineptitiude in the majors points to more fine coaching by dusty & his boys. watch hill get traded and go on to win 20 games next year.
  8. why would the cubs get rid of the pitching & hitting coach's? the results speak for themselves. even if baker does stay the rest of the year, maybe if dunn & joshua get the call they can minimize the "dusty effect" on the young players.
  9. im sure baker has a nice comfy spot on the bench picked out for him where he can watch the games and enjoy his stay in the majors.
  10. I think Fontenot did something to somebody to make him disliked by this organization. I don't understand why he hasn't been called up at any time even though he did ok in his brief stay in 2005. He's short and not toolsy. so are marcus giles and eckstein and the've done pretty well in the majors imo. mf bats lefty too which is a plus.
  11. i think alot of the answers to the cubs problems might be found in the minors. if they can trade guys like maddux, williamson, nevin, t walker, maybury, novoa & pierre for some good young talent, guys like c walker, negron, theriot, fontenot, hill, wuertz & aardsma can be called up for the rest of the season to see what they can do. a youth movement is just what this team needs to get some fresh energy & enthusiasim and make them worth watching again. of course this will never happen with baker managing but maybe they'll give a guy like jody davis a shot like the marlins did with girardi.
  12. + sure sounds like he's blasting the pitching to me.
  13. yeah, lets give up on pie at the ripe old age of 21 because he's struggling in his first year in aaa. that would be sound baseball logic.
  14. maybe aram should pay more attention to his own fundamentals before blasting the pitching staff. his bone headed attempt at a triple might have cost the cubs their best scoring chance of the night (not to mention his horrible throw yesterday that almost cost them the game).
  15. i think you are way off base here. the difference between aaa hill and ml hill is his control or lack thereof. 16bb in 77ip vs 15bb in 19ip tells the whole story. as far as 2 pitches, as has been said before look no further than zito who has excelled in the majors with pretty much the same stuff that hill has. if hill can change speeds on the pitches he does have and throw strikes, there is no reason why he cant be a very good starter in the majors.
  16. They could choose to go that route, but it would be a horrible decision. I'm not sure what qualifies some of those guys as having been high-end prospects, but an OF constructed of that group would be horrible in 2007. The Cubs need real OFers next season, no more futzing around with 4th and 5th OFers slated for lots of playing time. you mean like the way way overpaid and underproducing brian giles? why not give negron a try at cf? he seems to have the tools and is still young.
  17. Miller is only throwing 83-85mph in his rehab starts and is only signed for this year. Don't expect to see him next year. sorry to hear that. i thought he was throwing pretty well in the minors. if the new management would go with 3 rookies as starters, marmol/guzman could take millers spot.
  18. im all for giving him a shot at cf along with pagan after they trade juan. hopefully the new manager will be able to put murton back on course too. the baker regim is already responsible for cp and i hope that murton doesnt get added to the list.
  19. z prior miller hill marshall with guzman & marmol in reserve at aaa.
  20. from the NYDN: "Another top international catching prospect is Francisco Pena, the son of Yankees first-base coach Tony Pena. The Mets and Boston are believed to have seriously scouted him, as well, though it appears that the Cubs may be the front-runners to land the younger Pena." link: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseb ... 4290c.html
  21. i guess you'venever seen murton up close. he's a big guy who looks like he spends alot of time in the weight room. he has already hit some long bombs in the majors so i dont think power is as much of an issue as people think. it's the mind games and bad coaching that's doing him in imo. if the cubs do trade him away they might have another patterson situtation on their hands. how long will it take them to see that dusty & his crew are not the answer (unless the quesion is how do the cubs stay in the cellar).
  22. cubs121, i pm'ed you my email address.
  23. why not try negron in cf next year with pagan to back him up?
  24. both sets (2 tix for each day) r bleachers if anyone is interested. we had to cancel our vaction due to a pet's illness.
