  1. A-RAM! whatever you ate tonight before the game, eat some more tomorrow will ya?
  2. our one two has been brutal tonight. Murton isn't helping his cause much either... :( NICE play by D-Lee to keep Taveras off the basepaths for the first time tonight... Haha take that NYF. heh, heh. ok let's try this with Corey then. ahem. Corey isn't helping his cause much tonight either... damnit! too late!
  3. nice hustle by Murton. take what you can get against Petitte...

  5. Pettite is not getting ANY calls since the Ausmus incident. counted three straight pitches that were strikes and not called in that Maddux at-bat. this trend can be HUGE if it keeps up. a smaller plate for Pettite is a good thing yes? EDIT: i take it back. Maddux doesn't seem to be getting those low/ outside calls now either. bummer...
  6. note to Ausmus: don't show up the HP umpire if you want the borderline calls for your pitcher. do it quietly, and make your case. this bodes well for the rest of the night, IMHO...
  7. ha! don't even think about stealin' THIRD on Blanco!
  8. think how safe he would have been if he was running hard. you didn't think Lawton was running hard there? hmmm. he did look safe btw...
  9. I like this lineup defensively. now let's see if they can come up with a little O... nice crack, A-Ram! was that a little hustle too?
  10. who puts this pitching 'staff' together on a daily basis? Koronka up/ then down without throwing a pitch. Wellemightaswell getting ANOTHER shot. nice job Weurtz. Rothchild should be packing Dusty's bags as well as his own...
  11. sadly, no... From the injury update thread: Off-Season Surgery Likely for Wood the Doctor's report after Wood's latest MRI showed no problem. i think we all waited breathlessly for this report. hence the 15 day DL (retro-active). what you are quoting is quite obviously the 'Cub spin' on the situation, and a 'face saving' measure for a franchise mainstay... a MLB trainer is not a Doctor. he(she) is a Cub employee. (and if history is any teacher, not nec. a credible source for injury diagnosis.) Wood has complained about the same 'maladies' all year. why wouldn't the initial MRI in ST have pointed out the "so-called" labrum problem, and why wouldn't that problem have been addressed during Wood's extended stay on the DL earlier this year? I remain adament in my position. Wood is a China Doll with the pain threshold of a 10 year old girl. (or so it would appear to this fan)...
  12. That's one way to think about it but I think he's a gamer. He decided to forgo his ego and pitch out of the 'pen when he could have asked to be shut down. 'gamer' my... go get 'em Murton... Wood is injury prone but how can you argue that he wants to be hurt or doesnt want to pitch? The guy's heart can't be measured by physical limitations. I'm sure he'd love to make 30+ starts a year. if Wood was a true 'gamer', he'd pitch through real pain. this "twinge in my shoulder/ elbow/ back/" is laughable. it's one thing for a young pitcher to think about his future when the big payday is far off. quite another for K-Woody, when he's being paid far more than he's worth, and will EVER make again. my point is that there is no reason for Wood to keep shutting himself down because of a "twinge". you're being paid to pitch. take the ball, and suck it up son... He's had a cortisone shot this year. You don't get that unless you are in extreme pain... That's the problem, I think Kerry has been pitching (quietly) through pain for years. The same can be said this year; When you look back to his last start in Cincy, Rothschild and the trainer were tipped off by his change in velocity (they knew something was wrong) but when they visited him at the mound he didnt want to admit to the problem... He would have at the least, completed the inning but they correctly took him out instead of risking further damage. Even Steve Stone, one of his most ardent critics, says that Kerry is a tough guy who wants to pitch Cortisone is is an anti-inflamatory drug. nothing more, nothing less. the use of Cortisone has less than nothing to do with Wood being a 'Gamer' or 'playing thru pain'... what speaks volumes to this sito is the fact that multiple MRI's have turned up NOTHING wrong with Wood's shoulder. hence the move to the pen, and Hendry's obvious warning by said move... IMHO, of course... Obviously, you didnt follow the reports, the shot of cortisone was accompanied by a numbing agent to mask the pain. They shut him down in the days immediately following the shot so that it would wear off before his next pitching assignment...He will also have off season surgery. An MRI doesn't reveal every problem but then again, you knew that... try using your analogy as a reason why YOU or I can't go to work tomorrow, then you may see my point... peace...
  13. the Cubs are willing to eat 18M worth of Sammy money, but can't justify firing the (arguably) worst field manager in the game during the year? Dusty will be fired at the close of the Season. There is no way for this team to go forward otherwise...

Are you kidding me? He doesn't put himself on the dl. Jesus. no? then who keeps calling Rothchild to the mound, or telling Krusty they can't go another inning due to a "twinge"?

  18. that'll go into the books as hitting into a DP, but Murton CRUSHED a Glavine fastball. Murton rawks. Krusty Sox...

  20. gotta be an embarrasing sito for Wood. time the 10M, resident 'china doll' gets a dose of humility/ reality...
  21. Glendon is a veteran pitcher. Ultimately, he's to blame because he has the right to shake off any pitch he doesn't want to throw. pitches are generally called from the bench with all but a select few pitchers/ catchers these days in MLB. that being said, Blue is correct in saying the pitcher has final say on selection. when going against the bench call, the pitcher better be right...
  22. this 'team' lacks alot of things... when is the first Bears game again?...
  23. St. Louis. 05/7/24. wow. 1924. it HAS been awhile then!...
