  1. how many catchers in MLB are considered an actual offensive threat? Pudge? Victor Martinez Jorge Posada Russell Martin Joe Mauer Brian McCann Kenji Johjima (to some extent now) Pudge But most teams have catchers who aren't a complete black hole on offense. i'll give you Mauer, but none of the others are offensive threats imho... Sori for 3!

  3. hmmm. what does this mean, exactly? 2 out rbi Fonti! YES!
  4. Cincy up 5-2 in the 6th over the Brew Crew. Billy Hall returns to the line-up with an rbi single...
  5. Pirates have tied up the Brew Crew in Milwaukee, 4-4 in the 7th. Sheets out of the game, Pitt still batting...
  6. There is such a site, or service, that actually tracks defensive players based on all of those factors. I heard him on the Score 670 in my car last week as he rated middle infielders, and I believe he was going to be on this week as well. I tried to remember the website address but I forgot. Anyone know or heard the segment as well?? It was on around noon last Tuesday I believe. Pretty interesting and neat stuff. I remeber them saying that Juan Uribe was their highest rated SS, and Adrian Beltre for 3rd base. I definitely would like to know what the name of that service is, and their website address if anyone has it...... John Dewan is on with Murph every Thursday around noon, i believe... http://www.baseballinfosolutions.com/ourteam.html
  7. good call. living in Milwaukee, i have seen this guy play ALOT. Branyan is a very streaky hitter, when he hits, and is abysmal in the field. Branyon cannot hit LH pitching to save his life, as has been mentioned. so you want a guy who can pinch hit against RHers only, cannot be a defensive replacment, and cannot play anywhere besides 3b effectively? i don't know where the Branyan love is coming from, but he is not a decent pinch hitter, or bench option, imho. the Brew Crew is giving up on him basically because there is no DH in the National League. Mabry is already on this teams bench, can do many more things, and be far more productive than Russel Branyan. as BBB said, 'yuck!' anyone who has ever seen him play with any regularity would have to agree: "just put down the Branyan and back away slowly."
  8. aaaand in a typical Ramirez twist, denies ever talking to espndeportes: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5224028 also, Rosenthal reporting Phillies and Abreau now involved in Tejada talks. what a freakin' soap opera!
  9. dude, saw this post earlier today and had to come back to comment. hilarious! good call on the Wilson theme, but i would add one caveat: a home-run by Wilson launches a 'glow-stick war' at the Juice-Box... peace...
  10. I think the surprise is the timing. Why now? Why not earlier in the offseason when Hendry had alot more payroll unaccounted for? Why wait until most of Hendy's available dollars have been spent? I'm not convinced he would have done it otherwise. I think a NTC might be at play here... how is this a 'surprise'? this clause has been well known to fans as well as Hendry. Prior deserves a raise, (if, for no other reason than Neifi is being paid 2.5M) and i certainly believe Hendry has planned for this scenario...
  11. Exactly! not reallly news. this move has been expected for some time. Prior is seriously underpaid according to that contract/ market value. i would guess there is money set aside for this purpose. the interesting point will be whether Hendry is able to sign Prior before the case goes before an arbitrator, thus preserving the MacPhail/ Hendry streak of never meeting a player across the table at an arbitration hearing. strictly from a neutral standpoint, Prior might be justified in playing 'hardball', citing the perceived value he has accrued in recent Tejada talks. also makes it hard to determine Prior's 2006 salary for any trade discussions. (though an estimation could be made.) guessing Prior will command Z type numbers, one year later...
  12. A player can't be promoted back for 10 days since his demotion, and Matt hadn't finished his 10 days when McClain was promoted. Also, theoretically, Scott can play 3B. Matt will be back when rosters expand. i fully understand the 10 day rule. i am questioning the foresight of management. Garciaparra is playing third, so i fail to see your point... besides, there's always Macias... What foresight? How could they have predicted Aramis was going to get hurt? And it was better for Murton to be demoted and actually get ABs - it became obvious Dusty wasn't going to start Murton too much. Yeah< i know about Macias, which is why I said "theoretically." the 'foresight' i am referring to is the long anticipated roster move for Wood. that move aside, Sep. 1st is rapidly approaching. Cedeno was brought up as 'a precaution'. Murton has been getting the shaft. debate that fact...
  13. this just in : Williamson Sox, but who cares? why is McLane/ McLain on this damn team? why is he taking AB's away from Murton? because it's not Sep. 1st? personally at a loss... Well, Murton is getting 3+ AB's per game in AAA while McClain has gotten 1 AB since his callup, so technically, the promotion has taken AB's away from McClain, not Murton if talking AAA AB's you would be correct. if talking ML AB's you would be mistaken. my point was ML AB's. obviously...

  16. have not been paying attention lately. why is McLain on this team instead of Murton?
  17. bases crammed and K-orey is allowed to bat... *shakes head in wonder*
  18. used to be called a 'screwball', now is known as a 'cut fastball'. reverse torque/ spin as a normal curve-ball... In the pregame, Kerry said he hasn't used anything other than a fastball and slider out of the 'pen and didn't plan on it. The closest thing Wood threw before was a change, but his change never did anything like that, I don't think. and your point would be? YES! Burnitz with a CLUTCH HIT!
  19. nice spot for Hairston, Dusty...

  21. THAT was the MOST LAME-ASS PLAY i've EVER seen by a major league player (well, besides Barrett's gaff a coupla weeks ago). freaking Alou has better base-running skills than THAT!
