Leadoff has been THE obsession from the front office and managers for the better part of a decade. Other issues come and go, but they have constantly been obsessed with the concept of the true/ideal leadoff hitter, even though such a player does not really exist, or is in very short supply. If the Yankees can hit Jeter there, I see no reason why anybody has to have a real one. Which makes it even more ridiculous that Theriot is hitting there - he has very little patience, awful baserunning despite good SB numbers, and isn't left handed.
