  1. Would've been the 4th straight cubs game with a grand slam. Insane.
  2. Smardz was at 115 pitches, and Russell relieved him, and then Villanueva relieved him. Marmol had his own inning to piss all over. Now what I hate is when they insist on replacing relievers too soon because they allow a baserunner or 2, and/or they're too knee-jerky when it comes to lefty/righty matchups. When you have 3 competent reievers, you shouldn't waste 2 on one inning that clearly didn't seem in danger of getting out of hand. More importantly, Villanueva is a recently converted starter, so he could have gone more than one inning, especially when there's so little reliability coming out of our pen. I tend to agree with JCF though. Russell probably would've gotten through the 7th fine if he had started it. Also, samardzija was clearly out of gas when he was pulled, but of course he should've been pulled earlier.
  3. Rookie ump behind home plate = cringe. Pirates free fall has begun, take care of business, Cubs.
  4. For the billionth time, he was still calling the shots. @BruceMiles2112: Sveum on not staying with Villanueva: "(Marmol) is out setup guy. Villanueva did his job." #Cubs
  5. Before today, Marmol had a sub-2 ERA since the first week of the season. He's failed almost every time he's been used in a high pressure spot. That's all one needs to know. Please pay attention to the topic being discussed. "Marmol shouldn't be pitching in a tie game in the 8th" is not the same as "what excuse does Marmol have for having a roster spot?". No one disagrees with the former, the reason for the latter is the rest of the bullpen is a dumpster fire and that Marmol has been pitching fine for about 8 weeks. Well as long as Sveum is our manager, having Marmol on the roster is dangerous.
  6. Outside of Samardzija, they don't deserve to win this game anyway. Sveum's bullpen management is still a joke though.

  8. While I also have issues with bullpen management in this game, I think it should be pointed out that Sveum was tossed in the 2nd inning. He's still calling the shots undoubtedly.
  9. PBP guy is about as good as judging fly ball depth as Chris Berman.
  10. That should be the last pitch Carlos Marmol throws as a Chicago Cub. End of discussion.
  11. Seriously, there was no reason to not leave Villanueva in. That should be the first question posed to whoever made that decision.
  12. With this ump, this is a nightmare waiting to happen too.
  13. And now because of the stupid plate approach, Kennedy can finish the ball game.
