  1. The sooner people stop looking at Bradley the better. I understand how valuable he would be but under Hendry he will never be a cub. When Corey is hacking it up next year i think Kotsay will look very attractive.
  2. I'd be interested to see what you think J Will and Walker could land us. While i agree kotsay may not be the ideal answer he appears at least acceptable in CF if you got a leadoff hitter at SS.
  3. They are totally un-predictable but what is a given is that Dusty will probably ruin at least one next year. In light of this the signing of a guy like howry might just keep Weurtz's arm intact!!
  4. not good, not good at all......However it looked as though if Eyre started a late inning and didn't come on with RISP he was money
  5. has anyone looked up eyres numbers with RISP and howrys in the late innings?? gave me the squits!!!!
  6. i'm interested diffusion why it would be so stupid?, if we lose out on furcal we will require a leadoff hitter and also CF. Would we be offering too much?.
  7. The 2 players beane asked about, could we not offer them walker and j williams.
  8. A Guy with around a 900OPS is not going to come cheap. The idea of taking vazquez is to take a problem off thier hands and enable us to negotiate a more realistic price for Tracy.
  9. you have to wnder what the hell we could get for D-Lee if the sox are offering a starting CF and a rotation guy for what is really a DH.
  10. with his salary you have to feel that arizona will either have to sweeten the deal or take some $$$, even though the Sp free agent market is scarce you have to say Vazquez is overpaid.
  11. possibly won't have to get in to this deal. If they aquire rowand they HAVE to deal an OF. Who is the best fit?? what would phillies want??. I have to say i think the sox get fleeced if the deal includes a pitcher as well, then again this is being reported by levine................
  12. If we were willing to take vazquez's salary would this give us some wiggle room with Tracy?? Williams, Navoa, pinto and sing? would that be enough??. What about walker, do they have any need at 2B?
  13. If we land Howry as is being reported i for one will applaud Hendry. He's 2 years late but at least he got it done. We were crying out for pen help after '03 and it has taken 2 years but dempster, eyre and howry are nice additions however much we paid. If we land a leadoff guy and a RF i will be satisfied not elated but contended. This is all work that should of been done before but at least it may get done.
  14. would he be a good fit? what would the sox want?? I've read that they are looking for bullpen help not sure if we could help there......
  15. I know it might be a difficult match dealing with the sox but i wondered if hendry might look at this guy cos after all he can catch the ball!!! sorry couldn't resist.....
  16. I don't see Walker and dempster as rubbish and i also like the attitude of prior, barrett, Murton, Cedeno
  17. think we're getting a bit carried away, boston won the WS with the ' Idiots' so i don't think a fun clubhouse will cost us.
  18. Hoops i think you may be right, i'm hoping though that he will realise that some of the problem relates to replacing an outfield of Sosa, Alou and a productive Cpatt with the crud that played last year was also insrtumental in the abysmal peformance of this team.
  19. Gooney, I think you are bang on with that. there is no point making a huge splash for the sake of it and it not helping the team. An example of this would be a trade for Adam Dunn, we would then lose Murton who did a more than adequate job. However if Hendry then uses Myrton to obtain a stud RF i'm all for it. I've read alot of trade ideas for a LF ie Huff and no thought as to what happens to Murton or who play RF.
  20. Yearofda, I know what your saying about the wait and see approach but Hendry was almost disabled by the sosa money. We now have huge financial flexibility as well as the salaries which we will lose next off season. [/b][/i][/u]
  21. badger , i don't see how looking at what is happening at this moment and trying to look at what might happen is' crucifying' anybody. Half the fun of being a baseball person is the offseason and trying to guess what will happen. It's not like i'm on here telling everyone how awful hendry is and that he is about to trade big Z for a bag of nuts. You have to look at these small moves and wonder what is going on. We may have alot of rule V guys so he will need to make moves. I'm also looking ahead to enxt year when both wood and Maddux will be off the books so An AJ burnett type signing would not suprise me at all.
  22. If you've read any of my posts you will realise i'm more of a realist than an optimist or a pessimist and that i don't often agree with how the cubs brass choose to spend the $$$. However if this eyre deal goes through and we add another starting pitcher in free agency you have to believe Hendry is collecting spare parts. He already has walker and CPatt a whole load of pitching almost MLB ready and possibly Cedeno and Murton depending. What would be available if he went to the Winter meetings with that list of talent?? I'm willing to bet a fair bit, i definetely smell something big........
  23. My only concearn is his age but other than that he is a perfect fit, I would up the money if he was willing to take 2 years + 2 option years.
  24. Isn't Eyre LHP?? I like this deal if Heilman is used in the pen, could be a very nice addition.
