  1. I don't foresee the team going to an owner with shallower pockets and an unwillingness to spend. Potential owners would be coming in knowing how much money is tied up for the future in contracts and would already be spending a crapload to buy the team. But who knows with all the reports out there? I suppose Bud could really screw us if he wants to. I guess you could look at the situation in one of two ways. Either the new owner, knowing what the Cubs cost and what the Cubs have committed in payroll for the next several years, will be one that is going to come in here, and try to spend a ton of money and win, or the new ownership will have their hands tied and completely cheap out after spending upwards of a billion dollars on the team and having much of the payroll tied up for years (and years). After spending around a billion dollars to buy the club, I can't imagine a new owner coming in here and not spending big money to win, What I see happening is raise the ticket prices and raise the payroll.
  2. Soriano is here because of a lot of money, not because Hendry is a good GM. Ramirez is here because the Pirates were poor and couldn't afford him anymore, and the Cubs could. He's made some decent deals, but he's made far more bad ones that he's been able to hide with a large payroll. Can't you say that for just about any big market team? Both NY teams, Boston, Angels etc... All GM's make mistakes, but big market team can hide or out spend them. The Yankees, Boston, and the Angels more or less consistently make the playoffs every year though. Compare the payrolls. Yanks 180 Boston 145 Cubs are at 90. Big difference. Where have the Cubs been spending in terms of their own competition to get to the playoffs? I'd assume it's somewhere near the top. They should, considering what they've spent, at the very least, have been contending for the last several years, and they haven't. Good point. Can't argue with that.
  3. Who cares! Don't you think that our team payroll will rise? If not then we are in trouble regardless of back loaded contracts. There is no reason our payroll should not be a minimum of 120 million.

(Well, minus the Mets, at least) And they also have spent a lot more. I'm just saying big market teams have a luxory to out spend their mistakes.

  7. After seeing the first two months of this team I'm shocked we won 85 games. I have no doubt that with this current club as is, we would've won 90 games easy...
  8. I really don't think MLB cares about a Chicago Marathon. What's more important a yearly marathon or a Cub playoff game. Traffic concerns. Why drive?
  9. I really don't think MLB cares about a Chicago Marathon. What's more important a yearly marathon or a Cub playoff game. It's going to be insane for people who are driving in the City that day trying to get to the game because of the marathon. People will definitely care. I'm just glad I live close enough I can walk. well, frankly, people are morons if they are driving to either the game or the marathon, so they get what they get You just read my mind.

  11. Nothing wrong with Stoddard, one of the better guys around, plus this is where he lives. Nothing wrong with him, but he's not exactly a player you want to see at a Pep-Rally. Doesn't exactly inspire.
  12. I can't stand Comcast. Horrible company. If they don't add TBS HD before the Cubs game on Wednesday I'm going to be pretty unhappy. That SUCKS!
  13. Did they have to show the whole half inning of the 1984 and 2003 season clincher? Just show the last out and be done with it. Billy Williams needed to be prepped. Bob Lilly? Poor guy... Also, couldn't they get anyone better then Mickey Morandini or Tim Stoddard? Besides that it was a lot of fun...
  14. Dude that rocked!!! GREAT JOB!!!
  15. That can't be right. Chicago is such a huge market, there is no way they would start Playoff games that late. It'll hurt the ratings.
  16. I know it defies conventional thinking, but I think Soriano is better when he's a free swinger. The few times that he's tried to be patient, he ends up striking out. If his production is reliant on his free swinging, so be it. But he shouldn't be batting leadoff. He is what he is. He's not going to learn patience in his 30's.
  17. All but two ESPN guys predict us to win this series.
  18. Never happen. I heard from somewhere (cant remember) that his knees are in really bad shape? Anyone else hear this?
  19. Don't forget the black cat and Durham having a grounder go through his legs. Yeah, we're going to have some real good stuff thrown at us. Remember in 2003 when every commerical break they had a Goat run across the screen. I hated that...
  20. We know it's gonna be Wednesday though... right? Yep. It begins Wednesday.
  21. I don't. I like the classic Home and Road look.
  22. Cubs sweep this series. I have no doubt. The series won't even be close.
