  1. He asked you to help him combat his pessimism - I don't think that channeling the ghost of managers past as your source of optimism is the way to do that. Have a heart and lie to the guy, or make something up. He could just read the very well supported BP article referenced in this very thread. My feelings and my hunch are much more trust worthy then some stupid stats.

  3. They aren't sweeping this one. I think it goes to 5. This is the same DBacks team I couldn't wait to get away from earlier in the year. They went to Milwaukee and got destroyed, then they came to us and inexplicably played out of their minds. I hate this freaking team. Not only for their ridiculous bucking of reality, but also because they're like the Marlins: they have no fans, so they wait for someone else to provide the excitement then they beat you. They're baseball leeches. No way this series goes 5 games. It ends Saturday... MAYBE Sunday if Z can't get it done tonight. He'll get it done. I have no doubt. I don't think any of these games will even be close. Please help my propensity to be negative. Why do you say so? Just a feeling. I hardly ever feel confident about this team. Even in 2003 after losing game 5 I knew we weren't going to win the series. This year is different I think we are going to the World Series. I trust my feelings and they are hardly ever wrong.

  6. That's probably a good move. Clark and Salazar are a couple of guys that could give Z some trouble. I think if Zambrano's on, he won't have much problem with anyone else in that lineup. There is no reason why Z shouldn't dominate tonight.
  7. Good god the guy can't catch a break.
  8. I agree. I don't get all the Marquis crying?
  9. Get used to it. We are going to see that Bartman video 100's of times the next couple of days and beyond.
  10. Soto gets the start. Lou gets it.
  11. Piniella seems annoyed.
  12. Well, first of all, the Cardinals WON the World Series last year. They weren't that good. Postseason success does not equal being good. It means that you got into the playoffs (usually that means being good, other times it means being the best of a bad bunch), and then got hot. So the D'backs won 90 games so they are better then us and the Phillies. Correct?
  13. Neither time with a team that won 90 games So? So his teams ultimately might not have been that good, they were just the best of a bad lot. That's not to say that I don't think this year's team is better than its record. Just pointing out why his point is valid. Because they didn't win 90 games? Wasn't the 2003 team 5 outs away from a World Series. How is that that being not that good?
  14. Neither time with a team that won 90 games So?
  15. order a pizza and tell her the Cubs are more important, seems flawless to me. I think she already thinks that I love the Cubs more, and that only partially true. I just love them more during playoffs If she loves you she would be fine with a Sports Bar with a TV. It's just a birthday. They happen every year. Cubs playoffs don't.
  16. Wasn't Bobby Hill highly regarded?
  17. I've said it before, I think Logan White is the best avail. GM. If you gave me the choice of the potnetial unknown of White and the expected results of Hendry, I'd go with White. Yes, this. As well as Logan White has done as a farm director, I'm not sure how well this translates into being a good GM. Our current GM who everyone bashes was hired when he was the farm director of the #1 farm system in baseball. I'm not sure how well these skills translate from one job to another. I don't necessarily disagree with your sentiment, but I don't think the Cubs ever had the #1 farm system in baseball. I could be wrong though. They were definitely considered one of the 3 or 4 best, at least, in the early 2000's when they had Prior, Z, Cruz, Choi, Hill, etc. There was a year or two where BA had the Cubs vs. the A's as their "future" WS matchup (based on their minor league systems). Don't forget Patterson.
  18. I couldn't agree more on every single point. Well said.
  19. There is very little doubt in my mind that this is the Brewer's division for the next several years. The Brewers dont' have the pitching to win the division. The Brewers have a very good and very cheap core of their team that they can easily build off of. That "Cheap" core won't be cheap for long. I just hope they keep Yost.
  20. Once. It won't go long enough to see him twice.
  21. I thought I was the only one predicting a sweep. I agree Cubs sweep and the only challenge they'll have is tomorrow night.
  22. There is very little doubt in my mind that this is the Brewer's division for the next several years. Which is what we said in 2003 and the W.Sox in 2005. Baseball changes in a blink of an eye.
  23. You really don't know this. There's no way to know how much the new ownership is going to spend. There's really no way to even know who the new owners are going to be at this point, despite all the conjecture from the papers so far. Isn't it a little like maxing out your credit card and hoping that your future salary will be able to afford your current purchases though? It's an irresponsible way to live your life, and it's an irresponsible way to run a business. The only way it pays off, is if we win a WS this year. It is, but if the gamble pays off we are all happy. Where would this team be without those purchases this year? If we win the World Series, of course it will all be worth it. And we are in the playoffs, which means we have more than a fighting chance now. But if we dont, and even with the laziest odds, we have a 1-8 shot at getting to that point, how bad could the next 2-3 years be? It depends on the new owners. I'm not going to worry about unknowns. We have no idea what the team salary will be 2-3 years from now, so why worry about it now? All I know is right now we have a chance to go to the World Series. That's all I care about.
