  1. Yo! Checking in... We just might be competitive this year. At least a 500 ballclub now that we have another hitter. If... OK. I'm tired of sounding like a broken record every offseason. Sean Cassey really didn't have much power last year. And, he may be gone after this year, especially if Eldred is ready (which he isn't right now)Dave Williams is going to be a very good pitcher next year. Whatever. I'm going to go see what you guys are saying about your new CF. But, he wasn't our best.
  2. They already stay away in droves. Actually, attendance is way up this year because of the all star game. And, fans have started coming to the park when the young guys started playing.
  3. It was the Giles trade. Stewart turned out to be the infamous Player To Be Named Later Oh, JVB was never supposed to be a Prior. Just a good starting pitcher. And, he could still be. Unfortuantely, I avoid most Pittsburgh based boards (Sports & Otherwise). The posters can be too myopic.
  4. It's going to be an interesting pitching year for us next year. Come to think of it, so was this year. And, we see where that went. Ollie needs to grow up. Not just about kicking carts, but about his off season workout too. He needs to take some responsibility. That's why he sucked this year - he didn't follow the throwing plan given to him. Or any plan for that matter. Dave Williams seems to have locked up a spot. He has a winning record on a team 15+ games under .500. That says something. Sean Burnett coming back after surgery. He'll probably start the year in AAA, then come up around the all-star game. That gives us 4 lefties in the rotation! Other minor league pitchers that could make some noise: Bryan Bullington & John Van Benschoten (Also coming off of missing the season for surgery). Ian Snell is an enigma of sorts. He's never been able to do it in the majors for some reason. I'm hoping he'll get traded, along with some other parts, for a right fielder who can hit 30+ HRs! :-) On the perifery: Paul Maholm, Cory Stewart. Maybe Matt Peterson. Conspicuous by their absence: Kip, Fogg, Redman. Although, if Redman is around, we could start 5 Lefties! :-)
  5. He was starting to Suck here, too. I was surprised we were able to move him. So you gave us damaged goods. Big deal. :-)
  6. Oswalt Vs The Duke 8:05 EDT! Go Bucs!
  7. And boy is our pitching giving him a workout! He's our centerfielder until one of two things happen: Free Agency or Raji Davis beats him out in two years. :-)
  8. Now you're talking about the Pirates. We're the best at Sucking! :-)
  9. Not sure it makes any difference, but Rose never bet against his team. Hence my usage of the word Potential.
  10. Apples and Oranges really. But, I'll disagree. With whatever you want to say about taking steroids, the ultimate point was to win. There is never any potential to throw a game. When betting on your own team, there is that potential. That's why Shoeless Joe isn't in the HOF, and that's why Rose will never be either.
  11. From an AP article: The Pirates' Rob Mackowiak is 3-for-27, helping to drop his average from .358 on June 11 to .268.
  12. Cleveland is still paying some of his salary. I beleive the balance of the year was split between us & you guys - a little over $1mil each.
  13. This is true. And, he'll have a better lineup hitting behind him, which will give him better pitches to swing at. Absolutely.
  14. We're getting nothing for Lawton at the end of the year. Now, we have a former rookie of the year (OK, it was sporting news, not the real award) He's left handed, and we have a short porch. He'll platoon w/ Restovich. So, we've opened a spot to give two guys who have a future with us a chance to do something. The trade wasn't about short term money, but about getting younger.
  15. Not really. we're only saving a little over $1mil. This was about getting something for a guy who was not going to resign. And getting younger. I suspect, with Gerut going to arbitration in the offseason, he'll earn between 1.5 mil and 2.3, depending on what he does for the rest of the year. so, there's really not much of a saving. The Pirates have played the year $4mil under budget (Remember, you guys had outbid us to get Burnitz.) For better or worse, the stupid trades to save money (Aramis) are a thing of the past.
  16. While his OBP is pretty decent, he's still a .275 hitter. On an expiring contract. And his defense is pretty suspect (There were times to cringe watching him chase some balls down this year) And then there was the baserunning.... Don't overvalue him.
  17. Who??? :-) Bruback didn't hang around very long. We dropped him from the 40 man roster and he was claimed - I forget who claimed him. Sadler is in AAA right now. He looks like he'll be a backup outfielder if he makes it.
  18. I'm not sure which is crueler - This post, or reminding me how many HRs Aramis has hit (Which our local announcers do all of the time. I'm almost numb to it.). At least no one offered to trade Macias for Eldred. Yet.
  19. After last night's game. It wasn't so much demoting him as it was opening a spot for Brad Eldred (Remember that name!) and he still had an option left. I suspect he'll be back before long. We only have one backup infielder now. He was a very good bench player for us, and I imagine he'll continue to be for a while.
  20. Back home in the 'Burgh now. We made it to the stadium Saturday, but couldn't get a ticket for under $75. Multiplied by three tix, that busted my budget. I did see Ronnie Woo Woo heading into the stadium, though. Hard to miss him. We hung around for a bit, getting on to the Red line in the 4th inning.
  21. Quit yer bellyaching about being the worst in the world. You don't hold a candle to us.
  22. ... if you see a guy waling around witha preggo woman and a cute little Red Head, stop and say 'Hi'! Hopefully, I'll get tickets and get in!
  23. Yes, but his wife didn't have a baby today. Without that, he has no power. ROFLMAO!
  24. Lets hope someone hits a HR so he doesn't have to run through people again. Feel free to use this power again. And often. Can't get greedy with my powers. Otherwise the baseball gods will take them away. They must only be used for good (beating Pittsburgh). Mack-O-Whack, Cub Killer, is still in the game. :-)
