  1. That is going to be a dang hard streak to keep up for another year or two. not really. chances are good we will get a lousy owner and never make the playoffs again, for like 25 years or so. its a shoe-in really. The lousy owner will be broke. Anyone that has enough money to buy the Cubs is a very rich person. Rich folks are business people who realize that Wrigley will fund the Cubs for a while before they need to put a good product on the field.
  2. That is going to be a dang hard streak to keep up for another year or two. not really. chances are good we will get a lousy owner and never make the playoffs again, for like 25 years or so. its a shoe-in really. That is my #1 fear for the future.
  3. At least Lou is using the garbage time productively to see if Fukudome can hack center field.
  4. How much worse will this feel when the Brewers come back and beat the Phillies?
  5. Harden's shortest outing as a Cub..... Dempster a career high in BB... 4 E's in a game...
  6. Well, at least our bullpen never lost a game in the series...
  7. My time warp in getting plays with Pat and Ron on one computer, a proxy server TBS video muted on another, and this thread, is hurting my brain.
  8. I hate these long half-inning breaks!
  9. Per BP.... Cubs odds of playoff wins.... Before yesterday's loss: 71.8% win DS; 53.4% win LCS; 32.3% win WS After the loss: 38.2% win DS; 25.1% win LCS; 13.6% win WS And as the the author notes: "but the program doesn't 'know' about the injury issues facing Harden and Zambrano."
  10. I've been thinking about the Vedder song for a while now. It's not a song about winning. It's a song about hope and longing and the belief that someday things will be better for Cubs fans. It's a song for singing once the pain has past and you're again wondering why you've kept doing this to yourself. I think it's a song written to provide comfort for cold October nights. I think it was delivered as a salve to have in hand before the wounds were made, and a song to help heal them. Here's hoping it doesn't need to do so this year.
  11. Baseball Musings' David Pinto picks the Cubs and gives them a 65% chance of winning the division series.
  12. Rosenthal picks Cubs in 5.
  13. Why are they doing this at all? Did they do it all of the other years? Seems to me like an unnecessary event - does anyone really need a Cubs Pep Rally?
  14. Is there a similar article to last year's series analysis by Silver? I haven't seen any numbers (or analysis) from BP. Though, Joe Sheehan from today's chat suggests a Cubs sweep.
  15. I know that the Cubs were picked to beat the Snakes last year, but it's always interesting to see the pundit's picks: ESPN crew: Cubs Sweep Neyer Cubs in 4 Law Stark Clapisch Cransnik Cubs in 5 Kurkjian Nelson Phillips Dodgers in 5 Caple
  16. me Does the box that opens just freeze as a white screen? This is pissing me off, I want to watch the Mets get booed off the field. Even gameday is down - the site must be overloaded.
  17. Worst AP headline... Geovany Soto injured as Cubs lose to Brewers http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-080926-chicago-cubs-milwaukee-brewers,0,1767423.story
  18. Is anyone else having trouble not getting annoyed at this, even though it means nothing?
  19. Threat of rain casts doubts on Mets' plans down stretch Perhaps they should move up the start time... this would really suck for the Cubs.
  20. Maybe this is the pessimist in me, but I have this horrible vision of the Brewers: coming back from the brink, getting the wildcard, catching fire, and winning this whole thing behind Sabathia. It's something about the theatrics of the story that makes it 'feel' probable. Oh, and the horrible collapse this means for the Cubs fits with my usual "kicked in the crotch" feeling in the early Octobers of my life.
  21. I know the correct answer to be "anyone". Is this team really this dense when it comes to pitcher injuries and the need to get guys in the best position for the playoffs? Guys go with an extra day of rest all the time due to off days, why not give Z time off after a) a recent DL stint, b) a high initial PC, c) flying internationally twice in 3 days... this seem very cavalier.
  22. From The Biz of Baseball's Maury Brown: Is Zell screwing the Cubs?
  23. In the post-game Z said he was amped by seeing the 98MPH on the scoreboard - nobody tell him it was off... and please turn up the gun a Wrigley!
  24. ??? i've missed 90% of a potential no-hitter due these stupid tv rules. Actually only 88.9%....
  25. Brett Myers with 88 pitches through 8 in short rest -2H, 1ER... Brewers are reeling...
