  1. the next coach(Rick Pitino). Hahahaha The Memphis paper is reporting that Memphis may be willing to put a succession clause in Pitino's contract saying his son will take over after he retires. Plus they'll make him the highest paid coach in college basketball. yeah, still not going to happen. kentucky fans are still obsessed with pitino. if he wanted that job, he could have had it. he robbed the celtics organization blind, i don't think money is an object to him. Maybe not. But I guarantee he'll listen. And money is always an object. Except for John Calipari. All i said is he took less to go to Kentucky. It doesn't take more money when making a move from Memphis to Kentucky. But going from Louisville to Memphis would take a "blow me away" offer. The money is there for that kind of offer.

  4. The Memphis AD also said they were prepared to match any offer Kentucky came up with. Money is not an issue for Memphis basketball. There's some very deep pockets with high interest in the program. As you'll see with the amount of money they have to throw at the next coach(Rick Pitino).
  5. The only difference between Calipari and Saban, is that Cal smiles for the camera and the media loves him. People do not like Saban, not because he isn't a good coach (easily Top 5 coach in college football), but because he comes off as a moody mercenary who doesn't butt kiss to media. Which in turn the media will portray Nick as a moody, surly, villianous personaility, and everybody (a lot of people of this board) seem to have bought into perception of Saban. I said it from the beginning, that if people are not going to take potshots at CJC for taking the money and running to Kentucky, then people have to stop taking potshots at Saban. Otherwise....Coach John Calipari is the college basketball version of Nick Saban. Believing otherwise is laughable. John Calipari took less money to go to Kentucky. He told the Memphis media today that the U of M would've given him whatever he wanted to stay. Hell, Fred Smith made a visit to his house Sunday night. This wasn't about the money. It was about taking his dream job.
  6. who's to say that (a) memphis can pay that price and (b) schools won't match what memphis offers? The 2.3 million they paid Cal this past year. And they were willing to make him the highest paid coach in college basketball.
  7. I'm not sure your point? The conference is what it is. Cal has proven that if you recruit well and take care of your conference schedule you can get a high seed in the tournament. And really, outside of the big six conferences, only Gonzaga has shown to be able to keep that up consistently through multiple coaches. Remember, 15 years back, Calipari did exactly the same thing with Massachusetts, and they've faded back into obscurity since then. I'm not sure many coaches will jump at the chance to coach Memphis just because it's Memphis. They're in a second-tier conference, and I don't see any current coach from any of the big six conferences leaving their program voluntarily for Memphis (except for maybe DePaul). For the right price they will.

  9. In the situation I presented, they lose their coach, their incoming recruiting class, and their 3 best and most important players. Do you think Memphis is a surefire tourney team with Kemp/Sallie/Mack/Witherspoon/Niles/Taggert as primary players with a lesser coach leading them? No, not next year. But big picture is you bring in somebody that can recruit and yes, Memphis is a surefire tourney team year in and year out. It's not that hard of a sell because it's been proven over the last four years. I think 2 mil/per plus an automatic entrance to the dance is enough to get Mike Anderson's attention. And who knows, maybe the players coming in consider staying for a coach like Anderson.
  10. Because as Calipari has shown, Memphis has a golden ticket to the tournament every year. Throw in the extra million that Memphis can offer on top of the free ride to the tournament and it's a decent sell. That seems like quite a stretch. Anyone who's any good should be able to make the tournament consistently regardless of conference. If anything, Memphis' awful conference decreases their chance of an at large, meaning they're an unlucky conference tourney from the NIT in many years. Quite a stretch? They've gone to the tournament as a #1 or #2 seed four straight years. I don't see an unlucky conference tournament putting them in jeopardy of an NCAA bid.

  12. Which is what?
  13. I hope Memphis throws a bunch of money at Mike Anderson. So much he can't turn it down.
  14. Looks like just a verbal. Yep, just a verbal. And you know Xavier Henry will ask out of his letter.
  15. Looks like Calipari is taking the Kentucky job. He met with his players this morning and informed them. I feel like i've just been dumped.
  16. One other thing, i really doubt someone playing "streak for the cash" has the ability to even come up with $50k in order to place that kind of bet.
  17. Hard to say, since they can do it without having to beat Pitt or UConn. EDIT: On the other hand, I fully expect the Big East tournament champion to be severely overseeded by the committee, since it's a tradition. Every conference tournament champion is overseeded by the committee, except the ones that were already #1 seeds to begin with. Louisville was probably a #2 already and has a case to be a #1, but they're definitely a #1 with a win tomorrow. Louisville DID NOT HAVE A CASE as a #1. They only took 1st in the conference because the unbalanced schedule favored them greatly. They lost to 3 non-tourney teams, one of them in humiliating fashion as that team collapsed. They're gonna get it I'm sure, but it'll be a crock outdone only by Memphis getting one. Why would it be a crock if Memphis gets a 1?
  18. Another double by the Brewers. Hoffpauir lost it in the sun though. Weeks was thrown out at the plate.
  19. Brewers just went triple, double. Gaithwright might've misplayed the double.
  20. I don't understand this at all. The Cubs are clearly the best team in the division. They've even added distance between them and the next best team. How can you not be excited? This team on paper is better than last's years team at this point. because outside of the 5th starter spot, there isn't much to pay attention to. Spring Training is 3x longer than it needs to be, and it's hard to get excited about baseball until we're a lot closer to the season. That's not at all what he said.

  22. I think they should bring back the old Cuba uniforms
