  1. Preston Wilson for one year. You didn't say death wasn't an option...
  2. Dammit. New shirt. New tie. Ruined by puke. At least it's Friday, I guess.
  3. This time of year and the trade deadline's of years past remind me of that part in Superman II when Superman's (Hendry) nowhere to be found and those three aliens (White Sox) dressed in black are terrorizing Metropolis (Chicago's North Side). Meanwhile, Zod (Kenny Williams) is asking the defenseless people, "Where is your super man now???" I just hope this ends as well as that movie did. Superman (Hendry) comes back from his icy lair (Trib Tower), with his superpowers back, and saves the helpless people (Cubs fans) from the evil clutch of Zod and company (Kenny and the Sox). Yeah, it's alot like that. In my world the Superman series of movies ended after that movie. Agreed. The fourth was especially bad. That villain was really gayish. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

  5. Is there a site where we can track all of the Winter league statistics?
  6. This is a very good move for the Cards. He didn't exactly stink the last 5 years. He's awesome against righties and pitiful against lefties (which won't matter against the Cubs). He ERA was in the 2.00's two years ago and I expect him to be in the low to mid 3.00's with Duncan's help. Meanwhile at 1060 West Addison... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz :?:
  7. Jim may have no other choice at this point. Better to not throw good money after bad. Good players should be available at the break. He needs to secure some starting pitching now in order to be in contention come July to make it even remotely possible though.
  8. I know one nickname that doesn't fit that mold; Dusty (and others) call Glendon Rusch "G-Unit." But all it is is a play on the guy's first letter in his last name, unless it's indicating something about a characteristic of his. A better use of this is my buddy whose last name is Berning is nicknamed "Burn Unit". That's creative.
  9. Matt-y (Clement) is one example. He also does the "Big Choi" "Big Z" crap that bothers me. Be creative Dust-y, like with your lineup, but without the stupidity part. Here are some more of Dust-y's doozies: Grudz-y Good-y (Tom Goodwin) Well-y (Wellemeyer) Holl-y (Hollandsworth)

  11. Can I be on record as stating that I think that "Miggy" is the worst nickname in baseball. It's so effeminate that it sounds like it should be the name of my great aunt. "Go get your Aunt Miggy some tea." "Aunt Miggy needs her medicine so she can stay regular." I wish we could have a moratorium on baseball nicknames until we figure out what stays and what goes. Berman's names would be out automatically to start. There are waaaay too many of them, especially on the Cubs. I particularly hate Dusty's system of adding '-ie' or '-y' to anyone's name in order to spruce it up. Sorry for the rant, it's still early, and I need more coffee.
  12. Dammit, the Mets got Tejada AND Ramirez: Juan "Don't-call-me-Miguel" Tejeda - 1B - Mets Mets signed first baseman Juan Tejeda to a minor league contract. Despite a .289/.362/.516 season for Double-A Erie in 2004, Tejeda wasn't moved up by the Tigers last season, as the team wanted Chris Shelton to play first base for Triple-A Toledo. Later, Carlos Pena was the choice. Tejeda slipped to .291/.354/.447 and the Tigers allowed him to become a minor league free agent after the season. Tejeda is just turning 24 in January, so he remains rather intriguing. Since he doesn't figure to add a lot of power and he's shaky defensively, he's unlikely to become a major league regular. Still, he might get a look from some team someday. Dec. 14 - 4:14 pm Julio Ramirez - OF - Mets Mets signed outfielder Julio Ramirez to a minor league contract. Back in the majors for the first time since 2003, the 28-year-old Ramirez went 1-for-4 for the Giants in September after hitting .241/.286/.459 in 386 AB for Triple-A Fresno. He'll likely be a regular for Triple-A Norfolk. Dec. 14 - 4:09 pm et
  13. who? everybody keeps saying that, but i haven't heard any good suggestions as to who that could be. missed out on giles. bradley in cf, wilkerson in rf could have worked, but both were already traded, and the cubs got pierre. casey's gone, so the reds don't have to trade dunn/kearns (if you consider him to be a big bat). and i don't think the o's or phils are going to just give away tejada or abreu. That's why I'm crying under my bed right now.
  14. Anyone read this linked blog from mlbtraderumors? It's a blog about Cedeno. It's the way I felt about him before jumping on his bandwgn. It definitely makes me feel even more uneasy about 2006. And it definitely makes me hope we can get our hands on Tejada in order to minimize the question marks. http://1060west.blogspot.com/2005/12/why-it-cant-be-ronny-cedeno.html
  15. WTH is going on? At this point of the offseason we should really be looking for our 4th outfielder. Are we so tied to our prospects that the deals are getting done for everyone around the league except for us? Is JH waiting for a blockbuster, or are we seriously going to settle for Jack Jones? I'm actually starting to panic a little bit. I think it's time for Jim to get out there and sign a Jeff Weaver and trade for a stick ASAP. 2B is fine as we all know, so it's time to get the RF and sign a starting pitcher. The sooner we get that done, the sooner we can get our bench completed and call it an offseason. Does anyone think that this Tejada thing could cause us to miss out on other major signings & trades a la 2004/Sosa?
  16. Does the talking dog run the SABR department for the Cubs? :P Oh you mean the guy who sits in the broom closet with the Apple IIe run by hamsters?
  17. If the White Sox get Tejada, I'm gonna blame my actions on my neighbor's talking dog. (Joking) Still, I'd be pretty mad.
  18. looking forward to this... You're still optimistic...I like that! I saw the heading and was nervous that it might be a Jones signing. My sarcasm didn't come over well. I was really trying to say "I can't wait for Levine to explain to the lowest common denomonater fan how this move means McCarthy or Garland are now free to be dealt for Tejada". Oh Crap! I thought you were kidding. Jay Hood said that as I was reading your post verbatum. Really? That's kind of cool...but in another way, it's most unwelcome news that I'm actually right. Well, I guess except for the 'lowest common denomonator fan' part, of course - but all in all it was pretty damn close.

  21. Hey Bruce any new developments? Is Tejada still a possibility?
