    It sort of makes sense in context, given what they were discussing right before Glenallen launched the small, white spheroid in the positively prodigious fashion that he did, but Chip hams it up so completely and excessively that would could have been a cool call just becomes sort of laughably bad.

    The road unis looked like this when paired with a solid blue cap. It streamlines the entire uniform to only have two colors competing for your eye instead of three.

    According to Cubs.com, he will play for Team Japan in the WBC but will not report to Mesa until after Japan exits the competition, whenever that may be.

    They don't announce actual cuts until the final 28-man rosters are submitted; all you're hearing right now are players who were on provisional rosters but elected not to participate.

    It was made early in the offseason, in the context of whether Jake Peavy would remain a Padre, i.e. when he said it, it sure as shooting sounded like "the Jake Peavy train has left the station, the only question is where he'll arrive." Now that the negotiations have fizzled, died, spasmed and died again, he has to backtrack, obviously, but it seemed quite clear at the time.

    They went two full seasons after Sammy's departure before assigning it again. They did the same thing with Alou's no. 18, oddly. No way the equipment staff lets the number back into circulation for a few years, at least.

A new low point for the 2006 season, which was saying something, as I'm sure everyone remembers.
