  1. [quote name="Outshined_One" But...he's not the kind of bat that would turn this offense into a juggernaut for the next few years. He's not a Manny Ramirez' date=' a Miguel Cabrera, or an Albert Pujols. Heck, he's not even a Bobby Abreu or a Lance Bekman. As it's been said, Tejada would make a solid 5th hitter. I don't think he'll out-produce Aramis Ramirez next season and I think there's a reasonable chance that Derrek Lee out-produces Tejada, as well. .[/quote] i agree that cabrera, manny, and albert put up better numbers than miguel. but he's definitely a better bet than abreu or berkman. i would take him instead of either of those 2 any day. with that said, prior stays in my book.
  2. i would take jeter for prior from the yankees and thats it. jeter to me is one of the best players in the game, a true champion and franchise player. i wouldnt take Arod, but Jeter, despite his age would be great for this team. i wouldnt trade prior for pretty much anybody else but johan santana and a few others. but jeter to me is too great to pass on and he would tear up it up nobody what league he's in. that catch when he ran with absolutely no abandon into the stands was just amazing. prior for jeter, where do i sign? CF pierre SS jeter 1B lee 3B ramirez RF jones C barrett LF murton 2B cedeno/walker
  3. the day jacque jones signed a 3-year deal, the 2006 season ended for us and we finish with 83 wins. im content because any scenario had us finishing with that many wins. the only difference is we didnt trade our good prospects. so this season ended before it started.
  4. im in the minority because im not suicidal with jones on board. i think he's a GG fielder and an upgrade on burnitz. i think we're a tejada or millwood away from being contenders.
  5. can we atleast inject jacque jones with steroids? maybe we can get a .275/.340 statline from him that way. he might develop multiple cancers but atleast we'll get the extra victory and finish with 86 wins instead of 85. that way we'll only miss the playoffs by 6 games instead of 7.
  6. hahahhahahahahah. ok, quick, somebody take my life.
  7. if we're bringing back alou we need to re-hire wendall kim and start corey patterson so the base-running brothers can reuinite again!!
  8. okay now check out the realistic prediction: CF pierre .272 BA, .331 OBP, 45 SB, 17 CS SS perez .248 BA, .299 OBP 1B lee .280 BA, .346 OBP, 29 HR, 94 RBI 3B ramirez .278 BA, .359 OBP, 31 HR, 96 RBI C barrett .266 BA, .310 OBP, 10 HR LF murton .269 BA, .335 OBP, 14 HR 2B cedeno .270 BA, .336 OBP, 19 SB, 9 HR RF patterson .249 BA, .299 OBP SP1 zambrano 219 IP, 11-4, 3.33 ERA SP2 prior 157 IP, 10-5, 3.77 ERA SP3 wood 96 IP, 3-2, 4.98 ERA SP4 maddux 200 IP, 12-16, 4.73 ERA SP5 rusch 163 IP, 6-6, 5.10 ERA RP dempster 42 saves, 2.01 ERA cubs finish with a .500 record and 4 games out of the playoff picture. poor zambrano gets no run support again as corey patterson struggles mightily at the plate. lee falls back to earth, aramis gets injured for his usual 20 games which limits his numbers yet again, and the pitching staff is hampered by injuries all year. wood continues his decline and uncle greg has half-retired as he sips pina colada's at the mound while throwing 65 mpg fastballs to albert pujos.
  9. im not saying corey is good or will be. im saying corey sucks. but 1 year of corey doesnt suck as much as 3 years of jacques jones. 1 year of preston wilson will yield the same results as corey -strike out city. the only way a trade happens is if we send 2 good pitching prospects, but im not prepared to do that with wood-maddux impending FA soon. the trade would be worth it if we're going to compete for a WS, but we wont so its not worth it.
  10. people are quick to say no but not offer alternatives. we have ZERO alternatives. preston? NO. 3-year deal for jones? NO. re-sign burnitz? NO. there are no more options left. we're not getting mench or wilkerson. the only alternatives are wose than corey. if you want to pay jacque jones for 3-years be my guest. give up the pipe dream, we're not getting a really good RF.
  11. we're just not one player away from the world series and with wood/maddux coming off the books soon we need our pitching prospects. so im about ready to pack it in, suffer through another 80-85 win season and reload in 2007. huff, jones, preston wont do anything at all to push usin the 90 win realm. thats really what the goal is --the post-season so we have a WS shot. i just do it happening with either of those 3. so why not do as rogers say and put corey in RF and let him do whatever he wants. just bat him 8th so it doesnt have much affect. the best case scenario is he blossums and his trade value increases. worst case scenario he does has bad as last year and we demote him yet again. vance suggested aiming for 2007 in a different thread and i disagreed. but it makes sense to me because you cant damage the future of the team when the odds of winning it all are unrealistic. if tejada were in the picture, different story. but he's not and its unlikely to think D-Lee will accomplish his 2005 numbers again thie year. so we're just not that good, as much as it hurts to say.
  12. the suffering cant continue. at jacque jones press conference im writing a suicide note and shooting heroin in my forehead.
  13. lol. yeah man, why dont just toss in neifi and they throw in buerhle?
  14. jacque jones will bat .350, with a .500 OBP, hit 50 home runs, and steal 40 bases for the cubs in 2006. ok, now that the mesculine has worn off, i can see he will bat .247 like he did last year!! go cubbies!!! we need to get to that 80-win mark desperately!!
  15. well now that we know we are 80-85 win team, when we do we start talking about 2007? in my book jacque jones already signed with us and the off-season is a wrap. now THAT is a cubs fan for you. bitter, realistic, and insane. they should do a research study on cubs fans being driven to insanity with me being the lead case study.
  16. our options are looking bleak. tejada is a long-shot for SS (which would make RF not important). jacque jones or juan encarnacion is likely. neither gets up higher than 85 wins. this year we need to know what murton, cedeno, and hopefully pie can do. it may be too early for pie but if he's playing well and we're struggling put him in RF. pierre has CF on lock but why not let pie play RF?
  17. if we went into the season with this lineup we'd get crushed. it would be a terrible terrible season. wood will make his first appearence 2 months into the season. he will promotly get rocked and go back on the DL. prior will pitch 150 IP. neifi will start and bat second (stab me with a rusty knife if thats the case). now you add the RF we'll probably get (jacque jones is likely) we're still no where near the cards. on the other hand, you bring in tejada for 3 prospects (not 5) we get good in a hurry. he changes our outlook. but a simple addition of jones and we're a 85 win team yet again. does anybody have a syanide connection? im looking to score just in case opening day rolls around and neifi perez is batting #2 in the order. ill settle for a gun or heroin that i can shoot in my forehead also.
  18. so its settled, neifi perez and corey patterson for miguel tejada.
  19. i think cedeno, pie, hill, and williams might be enough. 4 really solid prospects. they would free up a ton of money. we'd back stacked and positioned to make a WS run. D-Lee, Aramis, and Tejada would be ridiculous. absolutely ridiculous.
  20. Jesus you'd think we'd be in the WS the way im running to the computer every 2 hours to see whats going down. i log on to NSBB.com and like 4 new rumors are posted. nevermind that few materialize, i still gets the mind racing. now if we can trade the entire farm system for tejada, we'll win 125 games!! CF pierre 2B walker 1B lee SS tejada 3B ramirez C barrett LF murton RF some scrub pie, cedeno, rich hill, and dopirek for tejada anyone?? with lee and tejada we dont need cedeno and dopirek, and rich will probably win the cy young in 2011 but thats cool....atleast we'll get our 2006 rings!!
  21. yes folks i would part with cedeno, pie, and rich hill or guzman. with tejada and pierre, we can officially make a WS run. barring injuries, which kills us 90% of the time, on-paper we're WS caliber. we just need to fill that last OF spot, possibly with jacque jones if need be. CF oierre 2B walker 1B lee SS tejada 3B ramirez RF jones C barrett LF murton that is WS caliber. the 3-4-5 hitters are as good as any trio in baseball, period. if aramis stays healthy, that is a RIDICULOUS lineup. absolutely ridiculous. you go for broke if tejada is on the market. our 3 best prospects for him and his monster contract (he's worth it and then some IMO).
  22. hmmm whats the best roster you can think of from all the teams in baseball? ill take a wiff at it.... LF scott posednik SS derek jeter 1B derek lee RF manny ramirez 3B alex rodriguez 2B jeff kent CF aaron rowand C pudge rodriquez SP1 johan santana SP2 roy oswalt SP3 mark buehrle SP4 mark prior SP5 carlos zambrano Set-up men: eddie guardaro, tom gordon closer: trevor hoffman to me, thats just a great team. tremendous speed at the top of the order between posednik and jeter, a great 1/2 combo. with those two in front of him, derrek lee, manny, and Arod would probably produce 400 RBI's between them. posednik would probably get 100 steals. how could any pitcher focus on him when he's facing jeter, DLee, manny, and Arod? as far as 2B, i picked kent simply because he plays up to the standard of guys like jeter. he's just as a good player and i liked when he didnt back down to barry bonds in SF. i picked rowand because i love the guy. he's a tremendous all-around player, highly professional. this team would win 135 games.
  23. this is a question/suggestion regarding our payroll. we offered furcal 5-years/$47.5M. the addition of pierre adds minimal increase to our payroll. im not sure of his salary but its pretty small, right? so doesnt that leave us with some spending money? i know we need to fill at the absolute minimum, one starting OF spot. but for the most part, our roster is workable. my worry now is on our pitching staff. wood is still unhealthy and it would be a crime for us to count on him for anything in 06. maddux's production really dropped and at this point im pegging him as a #5 starter. both come off the books after this year, right? so what on earth are we planning on doing to our staff?? we cant honestly be happy going zambrano, prior, rusch, williams, and a call-up in 07. with a decent call-up starter we'd still need to secure a starter capable pitching at the front of the rotation. isnt an investment in millwood reasonable?? assume we add one of the talked about OF's like bradley or huff. is that really going to cap out payroll out at $105M or the whatever the magic number is? if we could structure a deal with millwood that would increase dramatically by year 2, would that be acceptable?? the total number will be bloated, no doubt. with good reason people should fear the dreaded bloated salary to pitchers who suck. but millwood is a pretty decent gamble in my opinion. his ERA is great and even though he'd suffer from the same poor run support in chicago we're still certain to be in the playoff hunt. i would first offer 3-years/$35M, which he would promtly reject. i would than offer (boy im going to get FLAMED on this board for this one) 4-years/$45-50M as the final offer. ridiculous sum of money? yes. sick sick rotation? yes!!
  24. julio franco is still alive?
