  1. I have always loved Cairo. Cubs should never have let him get away in the first place.
  2. "I was just going to ask you the same thing. They obviously aren't signing Giles tonight, so feel free to get some rest". ---nor Furcal
  3. I mean what's the point? Everyone on this board knows that "Jimbo" went to bed long ago. No wonder there's no action.
  4. According to Peter Gammons, Burnett's agent just wants to check with the Cardinals first, before the deal is finalized. I think the Blue Jays are offering something like 52 million? I can't remember how many years we are talking about.
  5. Too bad a person can't go back in time, but I would have easily taken Florida's Gonzalez over "our Alex S. Gonzalez" back in 2003 during the playoffs. At least "their Alex Gonzalez" would have made the double play!
  6. Cubs need to be active just as "the Pets" are active.
  7. The answer of course is money, money, and then more money. How can it be anything else? I don't believe he has any friends on the Oddgers, compared to all his close friends on the Braves and Cubs...and he was quoted as saying that Cox was like a father to him. Yeah right, see ya later Dad!
  8. real cute seldom seen...my advice? Stay hidden.
  9. I would die from laughter if this deal some how well through.
  10. I'll believe Furcal is a Dodger when it is finally announced...until then he's still unsigned.
  11. I believe Hendry is doing everything he possibly can to improve the Cubs, and that includes trying to acquire Luis Castillo. It's quite possible that Florida didn't want to trade him to a club in the NL, out of fear Castillo might come back to haunt them. If I'm not mistaken the Cubs initially expressed an interest a year or two ago, Castillo was a free agent so I know they consider him to be a good player. Heck, maybe we should approach Minnesota, to see if we could offer a package for him --maybe send them Walker and some young arms?
  12. That was the quote from then Cub pitcher Alan Benes, when talking about Jim Hendry and his approach of meeting with free agents, one on one. I can't remember how long ago Benes said this. Was it the Baker signing? Maddux or someone else? Whoever it was, Hendry has had a pretty good track record in getting the people he wants. I like the Cubs chances as well in signing Furcal and others.

  14. Sorry everybody about the multiple posts. It wasn't indicating that the original message was sent.
  15. Hey Tim, I don't know if I'm using the right forum or not but I was wondering why a recent post of mine (Furcal leaning towards Cubs) was locked. What did I do wrong?
  16. ESPN 1000 and Bruce Levine have been reporting this afternoon, that on Sunday, Hendry had dinner with Furcal, his wife, and Furcal's agent, and it was then that he proposed to marry Furcal's wife...okay just kidding, this is when the Cubs made their formal offer to Furcal. No details as of yet, about the deal that was offered.
  17. ...apparently, it was a 3 year deal after all but I found it interesting that there was so much confusion initially, over how many years he got. ESPN,WGN and CBS Sportsline was falsely reporting that it was a 2 year deal. Did anyone catch the Hendry interview on "GN" with Dan Roan?Sounded like the spiel to me.
  18. Rocket Sauce wrote: "Why do you think Larry is so good"? ---Not that I'm an expert or anything but I'm basing my opinion on what Rothschild did with the Marlins in '97 and what others have said "in the business". It's my understanding that he is well respected and the players like him. I have heard Greg Maddux say some real nice things about him before. Oh, and I did forget about Greg's brother--what Mike Maddux has done with a young Brewer staff has been exceptional.
  19. Maybe unlike other Cub fans, I'm very happy that Larry Rothschild decided to stay with the Cubs. I believe he's one of the top pitching coaches in the game, especially in the NL. However that being said, I would dump Rothschild, in a minute for Mazzone...but I know Hendry wouldn't do something so cold. Besides Mazzone, Rothschild, and Duncan, how would you rate the top pitching coaches in the NL?
  20. Wow, what a crushing loss for Astro fans last night! I can't help but feel for them...and still, I think I need to go along with lowest, c3ci1, and the rest of you that are rooting on the Cardinals. I know many of the Cub players are rooting for the Cards, because of Grudz. Everything that has been said about "fair weather Astro fans" is certainly true. c3ci1, I too went to that game on Sept. 30th, when the Cubs came back to win. I can't believe Houston fans were so willing to "just pack it in" when the Cubs tied it against Lidge. I'll have to tell you all how I got two autographed baseballs from Dusty Baker before the game...but that's another post. He is a really nice guy.

Very nice stadium out on the bay overlooking the Harbor Bridge., and brought in by Nolan Ryan. The city is finally growing after years of standing pat and changing nothing". ---Yeah, remember all the frustration for not getting a park by the water earlier. I need to get away and drive down and see the new facility. What was the name of the old semi-pro team there? The Barracudas (spelling)? And the Hooks before that? I wonder what ever happened to that Barracudas cap I once had?
  22. UMFan83: "I am going to be wearing my Cubs hats a lot this winter". K-Town: "I'll definitely be rooting for the NL representative" dalgreen: " forgetting the fact that the Astros have had the best record in baseball since June 1" ---- I really appreciate y'alls input. Okay, I've decided that if Houston wins, and I think they will...I'll root for the National League in the WS. And like UMFan83, I will CONTINUE to wear my Cubs cap. ---ITex
  23. shnsajax wrote: yes and no. I am actually a little happy for a few players on the Astros who I do have a lot of respect for and who have never been their and deserve it somewhat. Especially compared to the likes of Edmonds and Morris. ---Jax, you bring up some really good points. Since I've lived in Houston, I have had the opportunity to meet Brandon Backe, and have seen up close players like Morgan Ensberg and Adam Everett --I believe that they are all, really good people. Hey, isn't Corpus now a Class A affiliate now? I lived in Corpus Christi for 9 years, I really enjoyed living there. Corpus Christi Cathedral was my Church.
  24. Yeah, I hear ya. Everywhere I look now, all I see is these "fair weather" fans wearing their Stro gear --makes me sick. And the Cardinals? Please. And then of course on the AL side...the White Sox. Now where did I put that Crown Whiskey?
  25. Dear Houston Cub fans; What are y'all feeling right now? Are any of us rooting for the Stros? As a Cub fan for 45 years, I hate the Cards but it's so hard for me to cheer on the Astros. I guess I should be happy for my Houston friends, but I can't help it, I want them to feel miserable, afterall I'm a Cub fan. Suffering is part of my life! Ooh, I feel better now. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. Any advice? ---Signed, "I don't know what to do"
