    That play also stands out in my mind, BbB. I saw the article on Cubs.com where Dusty was stating that he thinks he'll probably be the next person to be booed extensively at Wrigley. I can respect his decision to ease Murton and Cedeno into the game..I can respect his decision to give Corey Patterson many chances to prove himself as a leadoff hitter. I think we all wanted that to work successfully. Hell, I don't even hate Macias like most on this board. From some of the camera shots I see on television, Macias seems to keep the club kinda loose...and he is hitting close to .300 even though he shows little discipline at the plate. I'm going to go as far as saying that Cedeno probably wouldn't perform as well as Neifi has this season. I don't respect a manager whose team loafs..at any level. If a guy loafs, I want Dusty to run out of the dugout, grab the individual by the ear (ok..so maybe we don't want Coach Knight on the diamond), and let him sit for the remainder of the day. You made a point about these instances adding up over a season, and I certainly think they already have to some degree.

    I didnt know Young had got called up until I was at the game yesterday. I did get to see him play last month though when I went to a game. Matthew Maniscalco, the SS for the bisquits is a friend of a friend, so it was nice to talk to him for a few minutes. I got some great pics at the game yesterday. I dont have a way of posting them, but if anyone wants the task, I could email them. Its a very old stadium and has that old feel. It was great. Its one of those places that you are just glad to say that you saw a game there. Also, none of that annoying stadium music between every pitch. I can count the number of times I said "CHARGE" yesterday, which was zero. # of idiots attempting to start the wave....Zero! That was great. LOL, also as we sang the 7th Inning Stretch, I yelled..."root root root for the CUBBIES"! and caused alot of people to look at me like I was crazy. But honestly, to be a cub fan and NOT say Cubbies in that song, well, that just makes you a pinko commie. I can PM you my email and post them for you.

    Balsa...I wasn't able to see the game yesterday, but that certainly explains why Aramis would have appeared to have been loafing in that game. However, I think it may have already been mentioned in this thread that he also was jogging to first for the entire St. Louis series. I understand that Aramis has leg problems quite often. He battled through a hamstring injury last season, and now his quad is evidently giving him problems now. Perhaps he always takes it easy out of the box as a preventative measure. I don't want him injured either, but he's certainly not the only one on the team that I've noticed that could have either reached safely or taken an extra base if they hadn't given up on a play. I'm hoping that Hairston had leg problems on Tuesday, because if he didn't he was loafing. Even on sacrafice bunts, it would be preferrable for our runners to put as much pressure on the fielder as possible. Several mentioned that Macias jogged to first after his bunt yesterday. Injuries are one thing, but I'm not certain that excuse entirely explains the apparent lack of effort that has been put forth on the basepaths this season.

    These issues may be somewhat related only in that people all over the world tend to not give it their all in most things they do. However, none of us (or few of us I should say) are making a living by providing our thoughts on message boards. In fact, many of us are using laptops and typing while having an adult beverage or reclining after a hard day's work. I don't see a strong comparison b/w that and a major league player running out each ball he/she hits. And frankly, I'm not certain how it has become an accepted practice. Managers are responsible for their team's production, correct? Their job largely depends on their team winning. Could this be about managers losing authority with their team because of the ever increasing salaries of today's players?

    Someone mentioned in the Hawkins thread that the fans were savvy last night for trying to get into Hawk's head. I'd much rather hear them chant "Hustle Aramis" than "Hawkins Sucks". Hawkins actually got out of the jam once the chants morphed into "Hawkins Sucks". "Hustle Aramis" or "Hustle Hairston" might actually get something accomplished.

    doh..that must have happened within the last week as he played in the AA All-Star game. I was suprised he made it half of the season at AA with the numbers he was generating. I've been to Rickwood...I went there several times in the '80's...probably when I was about 8 years old I believe.

    10man.. Excellent post...Last night, I actually thought to myself that this has to be a symptom of having a "player's manager". Full speed, guys...that's all that I'm asking. Edited - B/C that's not really all that I'm asking from this Cubs team, but it's close to the top of my list.

    That was precisely my high school coach's stance. I'm just asking that we do everything that we possibly can do to win games, and hell...you'd see my posterior sprinting for the fax machine or to the conference room if it would help facilitate a luxurious retirement at age 35.

    Obviously, it will depend on how many PA's he gets, but I'd say we should expect less than 20 HR's per 500 PA's. And...perhaps Murton can get some work against a ML right-hander when Kerry is ready for his next simulated game. :roll: ..sorry, couldn't resist.

    I've even considered that major league fielders are MUCH less likely to botch a play than high school or even college players. However, even major leaguers lose fly balls in the sun...they occassionaly let a ball through b/w their legs (see Walker the other night)...they even more frequently make errant throws. I'd prefer to capitalize upon ANY error that the other team makes.
