  1. The CHGO guys don't seem to be happy at all with DFA'ing Canario. They are kind of downplaying injury concerns and saying we should have traded him last year. Am I missing something? I'm just not too upset about this.
  2. Yeah, looking back at it maybe you bump up your Tanner Scott offer or even a Blake Snell. Would an increased offer even have landed them though? Some/many guys want to go to the superteam and win a WS. I personally would like Adames, he was never getting a 7-year deal from the Cubs though. Would have liked Polar Bear as well, but I think he wanted to go back to the Mets. So, I'm irritated that the Cubs didn't open all their money, but I also think Jed strongly upgraded the team this season and I don't see a clear and obvious place we could have put that extra money. Verlander? Jeff Hoffman maybe? Ha-Seong Kim and move him to 3B?
  3. If Jed is smart (and I think he is), he's using Ricketts' well-publicized "cap" as leverage against both the Padres and the Bregman camp. Let both groups know/think that only one can fit in the budget. If the Padres insist on Shaw, Hoyer says "great, we'll sign Bregman". If Bregman insists on $35m AAV, Hoyer says "No problem, we'll just trade for Cease" One of those two deals needs to get done though for me/Us/Fans to really feel excited going into this season.
  4. Are you allowed to do something like 4 years of $20m with opt-outs and an opt-out bonus of $15m so you are pushing some of that money into 26/27?
  5. Back to the Dodgers and all this Salary Cap talk. Is there any research that ties higher and higher payrolls to more and more wins? Either in regular or post-season? It feels like a huge payroll can you to the ~90 win area, but you need something more an just dollars (better scouting, player development, draft projects, pitch lab - something) to get the 95, 98, 100 win range. I think the reason the reason fans hate the Dodgers is because they are smart and opportunistic. It's not their fault they are one of the very few teams acting like they want to win a WS.
  6. You guys do realize we got rookie 1B who was 9th in OPS, 8th in wRC+ among all MLB 1B's right? I would say the Cubs have done pretty well in that trade.
  7. I don't think Sasaki was EVER going to the Cubs and apparently these Japanese guys like to toy with the Blue Jays, but it's pretty clear he's going to SD or LA. If he goes to SD, does that work in the Cubs favor? The Padres are presumably still under a mandate to cut payroll. Would something like Cease + Cronenworth for Alcatara + Assad be more intriguing with Sasaki on board to "replace" Cease (allowing Assad to be some level of insurance if Sasaki doesn't immediately adjust to the US game). Upgrades the Cubs rotation with possible very minimal downgrade to Padres. Cubs get an experienced (although expensive) bench bat that can fill in at 1B. Padres save about $23 million in '25.
  8. Seems like we might have the makings of a rare 3 team trade here: Tucker to the Cubs Cubs Prospects to Astros (exactly who depends on if he's willing to sign an extension) Bellinger & Salary to the Yankees Yankees Kicker Prospect to the Astros (quality of this prospect depends on amount of Belli's salary/next year risk they absorb) I'm not particularly worried about the Yankees making a deal for Tucker. If the Cubs are truly interested they should easily be able to outbid the Yanks.
  9. One thing we are in desperate need of is some kind of offensive player that moves the needle. Otherwise, why are we even talking about Soto? Adames will cost nothing but money to acquire, and relatively (for the Cubs) not that much money. You also don't have "bench" Peredes. There were a few hundred PAs given to the likes of Madrigal, Wisdom, Mastrobouni, etc in 2024 - borderline wasted ABs IMO (520 PAs at -2.8 WAR). Those could all/almost go to Paredes. If you matched up right (carved out the ABs against the toughest righties), there's a pretty decent chance he could still compile that 3.4 WAR, but in less PAs.
  10. I would view it as spending ~$30m to lockdown third base and boost the overall lineup. We give darn near 400PAs to Mastrobuoni, Gomes, Madrigal, Bethancourt, Nido & Garrett Cooper and another 174 to Patrick Wisdom in 2024. I'd rather give a chunk of those PAs to Paredes. Not to mention 1. Nico might not be ready for the first part of the season & 2. Parades hit, what? .220 with 3 HRs in August/September? I think you can capture a large part of that 3.4, but play the matchups a little bit and avoid some exposure to tough RHPs he has problems with. Is it 100% ideal? No. But with no Soto and a crowded outfield, it's a way to boost both offense and defense with nothing but money.
  11. A little surprised I haven't seen more/any talk of signing Willy Adames. He's above average both in the field and at the plate, can solidify 3B and push Paredes to super-sub or 2B for the first month if Nico isn't fully healthy. Not to mention reuniting with Counsell and hurting our main competition. Assuming they have around $50m to spend, to get them back to this year's total payroll and Adames takes $27-29m. I think you cash in some trade chips for a starter that upgrades from Taillon (Crochet, Jesus Luzardo, Erick Fedde, Mariners guy - push Taillon fourth starter and hope of the young guys pushes him to fifth) and an MLB Catcher (slightly lower tier prospect, maybe the D-Backs). Take whatever late-inning reliever or two falls to you in February and call it good. Trade for another bat in September.
  12. Does this get us back under the LT threshold? It's gotta be close.
  13. Had multiple people working the VWR and got extra tickets for Sat 8/13 1:20 vs. Cards. Will pass along those four for cost ($260 after fees) if someone needs them. They are Aisle 239 Row 28, so not the greatest, but you'd be in.
  14. Navarro is making $3m, Castillo is making $530,000. For the limited amount of time the backup catcher is even going to be on the field, that's a pretty good savings. Esp when you consider that WC could serve as backup DH in case of injury. Castillo is making $2.1 million for 2015. Stupid, non-updated Google

  16. Per MLBTR.com, Stroman is out for the year and D. Navarro wants out because of reduced playing time. Let's say TOR finds a way to cut Navarro loose, what if we offered: One of Wood/Turner/Dubront/Wada & Castillo for either Devon Travis or Dwight Smith - both low 20's aged, OBP guys who could develop some power. We'd be paying all salaries of any players going TOR's way as MLBTR also reports they have instituted a spending freeze. Seems like a win-win as TOR is/should be going for it now with the Yankees down and an aging core.
  17. Really? The Marlins gave out two ridiculous contracts to players that have basically no chance of playing up to them. Not sure throwing around big contracts with no recognizable analysis behind them is something to be upset at Theo for not doing. IMO, Pujols going to a non-central team who likely won't win their division even with him is about the best thing that can happen for the Cubs.
  18. If so, I need some help. Would love to add the Sandberg bandana and/or 2010 I-Cubs card set to my Ryne Sandberg collection. Would certainly be willing to buy your ticket or something for the trouble (have a ton of other Sandberg stuff to trade as well if any collectors see this), just shoot me a PM and we can work something out.
  19. They were $150 I believe. They also had such Cubs/Rangers luminaries as Rafael Palmeiro, Jarry Hairston and Milton Bradley.
  20. Bhogg - I was in the CF stands for the 5/22 game as well. Did you hear Russell's buddies constantly chanting to put him in instead of whoever was warming up in the pen at the time? Hilarious! By the way...the little store in CF where they sell all the game used stuff was awesome. Or course, my wife wouldn't let me buy Soriano's used pants.
  21. Anyone know of any Cubs that are on Twitter? It looks like Randy Wells is somewhat active, but not sure it's even the same Randy Wells.
  22. Are the granite slabs already down? If so, does anyone know where they are? I (and I'm sure others) would like to have a chunk for an office paperweight or something.
  23. The bad thing is you know they're bust out a 8 of 10 or 12 of 15 or something like that just to get us all drawn back in just in time to go 1-6 against the Pirates and D-Backs thus losing the wildcard by 4 games.
  24. Not sure where to post this, mods: please move it if necessary. Hey, if anyone that was at the game last night and picked up an extra Sandberg bobblehead or just doesn't want theirs, shoot me a message. I'd like to add that to my Sandberg collection.
  25. Ram-bomb in the 9th I'm calling it first - If Lee gets on it's the game winner
