  1. I can hear Steve Goodman now... Do they still play the blues in Chicago, when baseball season rolls around? When the snow melts away, do the Cubbies still play in their ivy-covered burial ground....
  2. He's gonna foul off 600 pitches and then single.
  3. It's what the Cubs have done best throughout their history.
  4. Marmol's breaking stuff is wicked tonight. Anyone else's heart skip a beat when he fell down to his left when he caught the liner and doubled off Pujols? For a microsecond I thought he could have strained his knee or something. A BALK?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? Unreal.
  5. And so it begins... Sometimes I wish I was born into a family of non-Cubs fans.
  6. Yeah, that's gonna hurt. How old is he? Does he make a comeback or just pack it in and retire? Guy has to be in his mid-30's I'd guess.
  7. What's the recovery time for hitters compared to pitchers for TJS?
  8. I'm going to miss most of the game due to a "childbirthing" class I have to take tonight. And then my wife will want to watch our shows on DVR, so probably very little game for me today.
  9. I may be a baseball heretic, but after a few years of consideration, I have come to realize that I really don't care that over half the league was 'roided up during that era. I have tried, but I just don't care. It was a load of fun and I don't feel the least bit guilty about enjoying the hell out of it. I hate Bonds, but that has a lot less to do with his PED use than the fact that he is a paranoid, racist megalomaniac. Oh, and if some team takes McGwire back and Bonds still can't get a job, can you imagine the righteous indignation that Bonds would lay on everyone? I can scarcely conceive of it. If that happened, Bonds should look into suing MLB about collusion between the league and teams to keep him out. I'd think he would have a pretty good case. Except for the fact that McGwire doesn't have a federal indictment hanging over his head.
  10. Thanks. You guys are all welcome for the 9-game winning streak in May, btw.
  11. .MasterBlaster, meet Eriklettersandnumbers and please don't hold him against us I stand by my thread title. If they play like winners, I'll call them as such. However, if they're terrible for a significant amount of time, they'll be called what they are, until they start winning again. They SHOULD win. They're the much more talented team. They just have to play like it.
  12. You'd think they'd have made a bigger deal out of this on SportsCenter and the like. That's a pretty neat milestone.
  13. Laura asked me to spot start today. I'm looking to get to double-digit wins in 2008. Looks like I'll have to bail them out of this mess with my sheer game-thread awesomeness. For the Gutless Choking Dogs (aka "The Cubs"), we have Ryan Dempster http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6006.jpg 15-6, 2.99 ERA, 1.21 WHIP For the evil, puppy-kicking Cardinals, former Cubs farmhand Kyle Loshe gets the start http://assets.espn.go.com/i/mlb/profiles/players/65x90/6751.jpg 13-6, 3.76 ERA, 1.29 WHIP Will the Cubs end their skid? Will the Cardinals realize that they're really not that good? Will I find my pants? We'll find out tomorrow. Win, idiots.
  14. 10 years ago today, September 8, 1998, perhaps the most storied single-season record in all of sports was broken. Mark McGwire hit home run number 62 into the left field bullpen in St. Louis off of Steve Trachel, breaking Roger Maris's long-standing record. So, a decade later, what is your opinion of this moment, knowing what we know now? I think it was tainted, but I still say the Summer of '98 was the most fun I've ever had as a baseball fan.
  15. At least the Cubs won't lose today.
  16. they have the two best records in the national league, so they're clearly not trying hard enough at sucking. Notice how I said "right now", meaning "recently" and not "all season long".
  17. Damn, this team is terrible right now. Neither the Cubs nor the Brewers look like they want to win the Central right now. They're doing their best to out-suck each other.
  18. 3rd behind Utley and Pedroia is nothing to be ashamed of.
  19. Nice to get back in the win column, but kind of depressing that the bullpen tried it's damndest to give it away.
  20. This team has looked like Howry for the last week.
  21. Glad to know I didn't waste my Friday night on this crap. Six in a row boys. Keep up the good work. PS: That thing in your hands? It's called a bat. You use it to try to get hits, and then score runs. The object of the game is to score more "runs" than the other team. Just in case you've forgotten.
  22. He was with us at spring training a few years ago, correct?
