  1. I'm not going to complain too much about the singles as long as he quits hitting into DP's left and right.
  2. What are the old West Side Grounds up to these days?
  3. I remember he tied the "homers in a month" record on my Dad's 50th birthday. I believe he homered in Detroit, if I'm not mistaken.
  4. Dear Cubs, You're playing like complete and total bullHowry. Knock it the hell off. Remember when you were good? Do that again! Erik
  5. Thank you! Best postgame ever, though. A classic. In my time anyway. I wasn't covering when Lee Elia went off. You, sir, are both a gentleman and a scholar, and there should be statues erected in your honor.
  6. Honestly, not being a jerk, this is the most positive thing I've ever seen you post. Well, sad to say, there hasn't been much to be positive about with our ballclub over the last 35 years or so. We have much to discuss.
  7. Yeah, that's gonna hurt. How old is he? Does he make a comeback or just pack it in and retire? Guy has to be in his mid-30's I'd guess. He's 37. I think his days as an elite closer are pretty much done. He should pack it in. At that age, is it really worth it to come back for a year, maybe two, with possible limited effectiveness? Retire and enjoy the rest of your life, Billy.
  8. Depends on if he wants to throw like Jeff Bagwell did at the end of his career. He plays 1st base. That's the one position on the field where you can have a limp noodle for an arm and it doesn't make a whole lot of difference. Any player in the majors can put enough behind a throw to get it wherever a first baseman needs to throw it at any given time.
  9. If the Cubs locker room hasn't been trashed by Lou in a fit of rage, he should be fired.
  10. I'm sure they said that in '69. And in '84. And I remember how there was no possible way we'd lose both Games 6 and 7 at home with Prior and Wood starting. It's the Cubs. If there's a way to screw it up, they'll find it. The Cubs don't screw up any more than any other team, for Christ's sake. This losing stuff sucks, but give me a break, every single team around for any length of time has epic choke jobs in their history. I hate the "It's the Cubs" crap and would die happy if I never heard it again. Name me one other team, just one, that has blown it as many times as the Cubs have since 1969. I count 4: 69, 84, 2003, 2004. Are you serious? Completely. Go on, prove your point. Prove to me that history doesn't prove me right.
  11. Roughly the same chance of me winning the lottery and the sun blowing up on the same day.

  14. I'm not worried. I've accepted this team's fate. This is my fault. I let myself believe. I didn't listen to that little voice that said "They're the Cubs. Don't believe until they actually do it." Did I listen? No.
  15. Anyone know the Heimlich maneuver? There's 25 guys in Chicago choking.
  16. Of course. I hate the Cubs. Really, truly hate them. You can't tell me you're not worried now. You just can't.
  17. Well, at least we got an out. Need a K here, Carlos. Or a pop-up.
  18. Yeah, woulda been a good idea over the 100 straight sliders. Sounds like Kyle Farnsworth syndrome. Kyle would throw the slider a bunch of times, fall behind, and then have to come with the heater and the guy would sit on it.
