    I don't know what Theo and Jed liked so much about him in the first place. He really didn't do stupid stuff like Dusty but he was so vanilla and boring. I can't remember once hearing something from him that sounded insightful. Not sure what he could have done during the extensive interview process that impressed them so much.

    Looking at the rest of the Pirate lineup, getting through Walker-McCutchen-Morneau-Jones was more important. I really hope it is that and not Sveum giving in to Gregg's crybaby antics but I doubt it.

    Vin Sculley is the only opposing team announcer that doesn't ruin Cubs road games on Extra Innings. How much work must he do to study for each game? Seems like he can talk forever and just throw out one fact after another. Donnie Murphy wanted to play at Long Beach State but did not qualify academically. Two thoughts: 1) Pretty amazing Sculley does enough research on a pretty unknown player like Murphy to get that info. 2) How dumb must Murphy be that he couldn't qualify academically at Long Beach State? Not exactly Stanford.

    One of my pet peeves is people assigning rotation numbers to pitchers as if there are 5 specific positions in the rotation you need to fill. Completely arbitrary and meaningless. I have no idea what "numbers" Jackson, Shark and Wood are but they are a solid group to build a rotation from.
