  1. Davey Johnson Larry Dierker Orel Hershiser Bobby Valentine Earl Weaver How about one of those?
  2. Plus the related concern of durability, as well. This is why I wish the Cubs would overpay for a left handed hitting 1st/3rd baseman that can play a corner OF for the bench. Is there one out there like that? Yeah Tim, I think the durability is tied to the conditioning. I'd like to see if Toronto is trying to dump Hinske's $4m salary. He'd be a solid backup for 3rd and 1st, as well as a potent bench bat. He's a little pricey, but it's not a longterm contract, and the one thing the Cubs have in their favor this offseason is payroll room. Interesting thought....I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Toronto move him. Since there are not that many 3rd baseman available this off season, unless the non-tendered list has some, I could see a team taking a shot at Hinske. If he could only play some OF to get more AB's for the Cubs because Lee will play 158 and who knows about Ramirez. I'd like to see Russell Branyan on the cubs to back up the corner spots.
  3. Good, keep him away from the Cubs.
  4. Why would Larry turn down a three year deal when he is going to get fired next year along with the rest of the coaches?
  5. There have been reports of them not getting along for quite a while, not too surprising that he's gone. How about resurrecting Davey Johnson?
  6. Willingham starts for my royals team in MVP, but he got hurt the last week of the season. Sammy Sosa hit a series winning homer against the Yankees for me last night against Flash Gordon, exciting stuff.
  7. It's depressing to see the Cubs young pitchers continuously among the leaders in abuse points. Hopefully some of Prior's non-pitching injuries will help him in the long run, by avoiding getting his arm shredded by Dusty.
  8. So what illegal supplements do you think Nolan Ryan was on? No way his body holds up for an average of 200+ innings/year for 6 years age 40-45, right? To be the barroid equivelant, Ryan would have had to go 25-3 / 1.43 / 380 Ks per year and 4 win Cy Youngs those last few years. Like Clemens?
  9. I want Mark Shapiro, when does his contract run out?
  10. I think that team would still finish behind the Cards.
  11. He loves crappy veteran bench players also. No thanks.
  12. The thing is, veterans are probably more important in football, since they actually have to play together and learn schemes. There is very little in baseball that requires a veteran player. So, if Lovie can play a more skilled young player, why the heck can't dusty?
  13. He should probably retire and go out on top.
  14. KRod's goggles>>>Treebeard If he switched to Kareem's goggles, that would be even sweeter. http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2004/writers/james_quintong/06/09/fantasy.file/p1_krod_all.jpg
  15. When does winter ball start? I think it starts in the Winter. :|
  16. When does winter ball start?
  17. I think he needs to go to winter ball. Time to start over for him.
  18. Haha. "Value Over Replacement Player. The number of runs contributed beyond what a replacement-level player at the same position would contribute if given the same percentage of team plate appearances. VORP scores do not consider the quality of a player's defense."
  19. From BP, Dunno if anyone mentioned this yet: "Which outfield has been the least productive? Obviously, it’s been the Cubs. If you combine the VORP of every single Cubs outfielder this year, the total (17.9) is higher than that of only two leaders on any of the other teams: Baltimore (Luis Matos, 14.2) and Oakland (Mark Kotsay, 15.4)." We all knew it was very bad, but here it is laid out for us.
  20. BOBBY KIELTY!!!!!
  21. A's first, then anyone but the cards, white sox or yankees.
  22. I'm not sure if this answers all of your questions, but it's a good resource. Transactions Primer by Rob Neyer Carrie Muskat ripped that off in her latest mailbag. She just changed a few words around. :| http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20050825&content_id=1183535&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc

  24. With a league that small, you should play NL or AL only.
