  1. Are the Cubs really in a position to make themselves better at this time. How many teams 18 games out of first and 13.5 games out of the wild card really improve at the trade deadline. If they traded for prospects, they won't show it for another year or so. I don't see what good it does to trade proven Major League talent for Minor leaguer prospects that may never turn out to be anything. It's not like th Cubs can't afford to pay them. nobody is advocating making a run at the playoffs this year or picking up Lee or Zito or Soriano right now. the idea is to make the team better going into 2007. why shouldn't the Cubs be interested in a player like Tejada with three years left on his reasonably priced contract? the Cubs are in a perfect position to improve this team for 2007 right now, but time's running short.
  2. Steinbrenner should just sign a player development deal with Castro. they seem to get all the Cubans worth a damn. not sure where he would fit in with them though.
  3. need a blowout because you don't want to do it with Maddux and you don't want to do it in the late innings in a close game. I'm all for playing them straight up and letting Z go after him in the first inning of Sunday's game.
  4. another one for the 'luck' thread. only the Cubs have two shortstops beaned in the span of three years and have veteran umpires make terrible calls on them Charlie just passed the baton to Ed.
  5. what's this do to the whole equation? end of year for Ronnie.
  6. here's the plan. Howry kept the pitches down. bring him out for another inning and if he get the first two have him go right at the middle of Pujols back. let him get ejected and bring in Dempster for a one out save. edit - I'd actually wait for a early inning AB on Sunday, but I really hope something is done about this.
  7. the warning should have come after the Rolen with LaRussa's track record. that was obviously unintentional and it was obvious he was going to retaliate. make em pay Jacque.
  8. so fricken bush. and he never gets punished for it.
  9. that comes with the package of having three rookies and Maddux in the rotation. two times ago in the rotation I think they had like six straight QS. those streaks will happen too. the scheduling bafoonery doesn't help either with no off days, nor does facing some really good (or hot) offenses three series in a row.
  10. board suggestion, people should stop saying things like saying 'I should keep bitching about Novoa because he does great. Nice job Bob' just keep bitching about him.
  11. I think if he is going to do it the score won't matter. he'll pick a spot.
  12. how about stop throwing the ball right down the middle to Encarnacion?
  13. what's the line on LaRussa retaliating for that obvious accidental beaning?
  14. I'm constantly surprised that they don't seem to anticipate when a reliever might be needed. I was thinking about starting a thread about how Maddux's trade value has plummeted thanks to the mistaken notion that he is anything but a 5-6 inning pitcher. He might be the one who needs to be convinced of that, since he reportedly usually decided when he's pulled. if that's the way it is, the decision should be taken out of his hands. ops vs by pitch count 1-15 .859 16-30 .610 31-45 .618 46-60 .752 61-75 .940 75-90 .970
  15. well if I were LaRussa I woulda done it. You would've had the double steal on when you're down 3 runs? not ordinarily, but in that situation I very well may have. good enough speed on, no chance of pitchout, big righty in the box, wildness on the mound, situation that calls for keeping the ball down. and every guess by LaRussa seems to always beat Dusty. edit - it's not that I really woulda dunnit. I just said the second part because of the DP. tongue in cheek. I think LaRussa does thinks like that and it always seems to beat us.

  17. anyone else sensing a successful double steal coming, all set up by that stupid pitchout by Marmol?
  18. Walker was just giving us an excuse to work a few "Neifi sucks" comments into the game thread. Neifi sucks. OK, what did I miss? Walk changed jerseys between innings and for some reason ended up in the dreaded 13
  19. there ya go Dusty. have marmol give a ball away.
  20. Walker hexes himself in mutiple ways. Neifi's jersey said jersey is #13
  21. Did the Cards RF fall down? Aram busted his butt, Encarnacion took three days to get to the ball.
  22. Dear Jacque, you haven't hit a low inside pitch hard all year. please stop swinging at them as they are usually balls anyway. Sincerely, jjgman21
