  1. It would be someone from outside and I would imagine Hawkins and the rest of the underlings would go too. I have no idea who is an up and comer in baseball. Ricketts is likely to get another guy with a similar approach as Jed because that's how he wants the organization to operate. Probably another reason why he is unlikely to fire Jed. Honestly, I think the only way Jed gets fired is if it starts hurting their bank account.
  2. It's not worth starting a new thread, but I like the idea of an opener in situations where the starter is a 5 or six-inning pitcher. Find a couple of strike throwing young guys with gas to throw a few innings at the beginning of the game and then let the "starter" go until the 9th.
  3. One is nicknamed The Polar Bear and one is nicknamed Busch Light. Case closed.
  4. How much appetite does Tom have for making systemic change? Judging from history. He has none. It would be quite a sea change to move Jed out unless he was hiring a Jed acolyte. That's even closer to 0 chance than firing Jed. He's going to wait and see what percolates up. However, if they continue to play poorly I do not think Jed will get an extension this offseason even if Tom wanted to, so he will be a lame duck in 2025.
  5. Gomes hit the proverbial wall hard. I'm sure he will become someone's bench coach soon and be shortlisted for manager jobs.
  6. That never happened. What color is the sky in your world?
  7. The Alonso ship sailed (unfortunately) when they traded for Busch. He’s right up Jed’s alley. Athletic looking player who hits line drives. That’s who Jed loves. He has them in spades up and down the roster in the minors too. Not that great, but not that bad either.
  8. That's a good point. He's not bad as much as he is mediocre. In the mix most years is the bar, and he can get the team there most years.
  9. I don't think Jed's job is in jeopardy. But we don't know what is happening behind the scenes. If he is leaving money in the budget every year and not using it, the Ricketts may get frustrated with the pace of improvement and or the ire of the fans. My guess is 1> He's spending to the limit imposed by the owners and 2> The Ricketts are insulated enough by the pile of money they have that it doesn't bother them to be the villain. It is unlikely that people will stop showing up or the corporate seats will go unsold (if unused), so he's safe. I think we will get a letter from the owner this year expressing disappointment in the record but praising Jed and Counsell for holding things together in the face of unprecedented injuries. Jed is Tom's man.
  10. These broadcasts are awful. They don’t even let Pat finish the call before going to commercial
  11. The answer is all hitters are streaky. Peaks and valleys are the issue
  12. Based on the offseason I figured they would go through stretches where they’d have a hard time scoring. I never expected this.
  13. Those people might have unrealistic expectations for the type of player that Happ is given that the Cubs decided to make him one of the faces of the franchise. He's a fine player on a good team but not a star. So he gets unfairly projected that way. Also, he has a horrid April, and some people checkout.
  14. They will be in the lottery unless Hoyer pulls a rabbit out of his hat.
  15. PCA has a tremendous amount of swagger. But I believe he is also self-aware enough to learn and get better. He needs to play every day at the MLB level. The Cubs need to turn the page on this season and start moving guys up. It's clear that AAA is not as much of a developmental league as it once was.
  16. I'm not trying to bag on someone's physical appearance, but Brown seems to have an unusually long neck or at least it appears that way.
  17. Someone posted a comparison of Swanson and Heyward on Twitter for their first 200 Cubs ABs and they are almost identical.
  18. He's the Cubs best offensive player. He is playing better 3rd base every day. He's going to be a star. He's the exact player they should hang on to.
  19. Damn it. By the time they get to Montgomery no one will be on the team.
  20. His expected and actual results are 100 points to the negative. Like 4th worst in baseball.
  21. Agree. He’s progressed well. They need something to change. I don’t know what. But, something.
