Well the two I've brought up so far are for a possible top tier CF and one of two possibly top tier arms...It could even be seen as kind of a backhanded compliment to Jackson.
Thanks Rob. This is pretty cool. Mind doing some for possible Cub targets and/or top FAs...Headley, Wright, Reyes, Pujols, Fielder, Beltran, Sizemore, etc....? That would be cool.
The big question here is what did you read here that gave gender clues either way? Or just letting the imagination run wild again? How does it make you feel that I'm not the female poster you've been imagining me to be? How much more shame must you bring upon your parents on this day?!?!?
I wanted to add more but davell's comparison to a mom and pop shop is exactly it. That's why we should all be bowing to the Ricketts', who seem to be taking this whole owning the Cubs thing seriously.
Im still stunned that Ventura is a manager already....then I found out former super sub Joe McEwing is his third base coach...mad world. These guys retired an hour ago.
Problem is, we're not going to get him at middle-of-the-rotation value Yeah theres just no such thing as not overpaying for outside pitching help...it's always at least initially seen as overpaying...with JJ I think it'd stay that way.
I'd offer something like Jackson, McNutt, Barney, and fodder for Anderdon/Cahill...Possibly have to jump it up a notch....maybe throw in Ben Wells who they might like as a low level upside arm.
I'd love any of their big three young arms, but specifically I'd target Anderson/Cahi first. Brett anderson when healthy is filthy...his shutout against the Sox in '10 was the most impressive performance I saw all year....dude was hitting 96 with a top of the line breaking pitch. Gonzalez I like...one of the guys I used to play with in HS said he's exactly me mechanically and with the fastball/curveball except that he's way healthier and more talented. I do question long term durability and command/control. If we landed Mike Maddux though... Anyway in order I'd look to grab Anderson, then Cahill, and THEN Gio. I really like Cahill in the long run too, and he could go above Anderson in a given day.
I think I have to join him on this dream. Mike Maddux would be such a coup for this franchise....he's arguably the best coach in baseball right now...and I absolutely love what Texas has said they're doing with their pitchers (something akin to pitch counts are for c-words). pitch counts are for curmudgeons? Actually...this might work.
1) Well they can't publish Nolan Ryan using the c-word obviously. 2) Not buying complete into the pitch count dram doesn't mean they don't take care of their pitchers. The fact that their owner went out and got Mike Maddux to handle his pitching shows that this guy I know you want to call a meathead (settled for the merely condescending macho) put some thought into what they want to do before hand. I'm fully on board with a Mike Maddux hire...best thing they could do IMO considering they've been struggling with handling pitchers for a while now...particularly young SP.
No, they legtimately support pitchers doing more THROWING on the side to build and maintain arm strength. Also if you've ready any of Tom House's books I'm sure they use alot of those workouts plus whatever the 21st century's research has shown. I expect their pitchers are on a very specific and tough diet and exercise program. They probably make sure each guy can repeat his delivery thoroughly as many times as that guy can...this is just guessing though...that said Im a huge believer in conditioning being a key to health, and their results at everything that needs to be said. I don't believe today's pitchers are pansies so much as they're taught to be pansies by those who work with raw pitch count numbers with little to no context. For instance, those Garza starts this year where he threw 123 a couple of times late and drew the ire of a couple posters. I mean really, a 27 who is as physically fit and built as Garza can't handle a couple of 123 pitch games late in the season where he was on cruise control most of the time? I would love for the Cubs to bite off some of what the Rangers are chewing on.
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/columnist/thorne/2009-04-26-thorne-column_N.htm What a bunch of meatheads right? I mean pitch count studies were soooo conclusive, how dare they try to push forward somehow? This doesn't mean they don't take care of their pitchers either....IMO Ranger pitchers are amongst the most well conditioned in the sport...though there's no available data that readily supports that.

Yes, definitely bring him here so Nolan Ryan can ruin all our arms How can so much wrong be fit into one sentence? Anyway, Yeah that's what's been going on in Texas. Ruined arms all over the place. They work those guys like dogs out there with their crazy, useless ideas. If they knew half of what we know then they'd know to live in fear of pitch counts. Injuries be right around the corner, if not closer.

which article is that quote from? It's from Little Big League. Gotchya... For some reason, I haven't seen that movie. 2nd best kid baseball movie after The Sandlot.
Yes, it's pretty common practice. That said, we're coming off a breakup and everything this new guy does...There's probably a mental/psych eval of some kind too.
