  1. SEEMS like it sure, but then you remember they just pumped out a ROY/All Star C 3 years ago and a potential superstar at SS just last year. Not to mention one of the more talented bullpens in the league (minus Grabow)... The guys now...all those college or close to ready guys who'll likely at least see the show...those guys helped serve as a base to build on. The 2011 draft, IFAs, and DSL players loaded with talent and upside is exciting right, but what really helps those guys not have to be THE guys in the system right now is that the system is stacked with guys like the ones I listed. They can all develop at their own pace because of the fact that the farm system is heading towards achieving some kind of balance. Personally, I think the Cubs system is maybe a year or two away from being an elite one. If Vitters/McNutt/Szczur/Simpson/Baez have strong years next year...
  2. Luckily, two things the Cubs have. Note: I know the farm system isn't ranked high by most (everyone?). It's still got a ton of guys who IMO are likely to at least reach the majors (LeMahieu, Flaherty, Jackson, Dolis, Cabrera, Carpenter, J. Jackson, Smith, Castillo, Clevenger, etc).
  3. #respeck I think the Jets are going to lose 3 games in a row with a L to the Pats this week. BTW: Love that Texans prediction. That team's got the potential to be the '08 Cardinals all over again. They probably won't do it.
  4. double
  5. In the very next game, Lake went 3/4 with a 2B, HR, and SB, and Carpenter hit 100 on the gun. Lol OK so the game after Vitters' big game. I like both of those players too...didn't notice Lake's game...Carpenter throwing hard doesn't surprise me though. He's got an awesome arm.
  6. Verlander vs. Wilson = Further baseball fap material this playoff season. Hopefully this one actually lives up to the billing.
  7. RIP. Great man.
  8. Scott Baker wishes he was a 2-3. I actually like him as a pitcher, but he's right with guys like Dempster, Wells, and Z as mid-back of the rotation starters.
  9. I'm hoping for a Detroit (same reason, Verlander's the man) vs. Milwaukee WS. It'd probably be ignored in the ratings, but it'd be one hell of a series. Verlander possibly as many as 3 times vs. the Fielder/Braun duo would be sick to watch.
  10. Yeah but that was because people hate ARod. He's only in the past couple years getting respect in the NY press. Plus he was opting out of his 250+ million contract to get 300+ million instead...I don't think there'd be that kind of flak for the Cubs hiring one of the game's best GMs.
  11. Given the way AFL teams have been hitting so far, I'm thrilled McNutt got three scoreless innings in. Strikeouts would have been nice, but I can live with a scoreless/hitless outing with a lot of ground balls. True, I should have given that more credit. Usually a pitcher just keeping a low ERA in the AFL is an accomplishment.
  12. Dammit LeMahieu. Nothing exciting from anyone so far since Vitters' big game.
  13. Besides for the negative reaction and slump, the other Dunston notes sound like what I expected. Same for Schlect as far as the note on his patience. I heard negative things on Dunston's hit tool (probably here), which was disappointing. Still, I think there's a whole lot to like about a 2nd generation player who turned down Vanderbilt.
  14. This is another thing that is not a thing that exists. You're sometimes a little crazy. Just a pinch. Yeah, but Yeah well...something something. The joke was still funny.
  15. Cashman's uncle's friends think he'd welcome the idea of talking about taking on the challenge of righting the Cubs.
  16. Really fun pitcher to watch for sure. Everything moves. I've thought about Cano/Castro...It's a route. Cano came up with the same kind of profile, and it took alot of work for him to become the brickhouse hitter he is.
  17. MoneyBall MoneyBall MoneyBall Stop pretending the book floated off to the land of forgotten books that made no kind of impact on it's subject (vehicle, topic, whatever you want to call it). Oh, and what else should I call it?
  18. No, he's being pissed his team crapped the bed. What's not logical about not adding interest that he hasn't directly stated he has? Note: Beane backed out almost immediately. He thought better of it. During that time his A's teams were still top notch but looking to get over the hump. Epstein's got a very expensive wtf just happened on his resume, and he's going to leave that as his last Red Sox team? I'll believe that when I see it. I realize Boston fans are knocking him right now, but that's just what sport fans do. As much as we'll really like new GM, there will be wth are you doing or wtf just happened moments.
  19. The point we're at is asking permission to talk. Everything about him being interested is from "sources," "friends," and "execs." To me this is similar to Boston's flirtations with Beane almost a decade ago. It's just giving fans the image for the archetype they're looking for...IMPotheadO...or a "hey we tried for the top guy" kind of thing...Epstein's still fairly young as a GM as it is, so getting out of Boston later is very doable for him. If I were him I'd be really into the idea of tweaking the Red Sox roster right now and getting it right.
  20. The point we're at is asking permission to talk. Everything about him being interested is from "sources." To me this is similar to Boston's flirtations with Beane almost a decade ago. It's just giving fans the image for the archetype they're looking for...IMPHO...
  21. Is it surprising to find out he's liberal because he likes guns? He also doesn't drink, smoke, or do drugs...one of those straightedgers. Also, he's a really good pitcher who compiles K's, doesn't give up HRs, and does it all throwing left handed.
  22. If the Yankees lose tonight, which I probably just jinxed, will we get a couple of weeks of Cashman talk and speculation? I'm bored of this Epstein stuff. I just don't see any real reason for Epstein to leave Boston right now...Even if you want to think he's willing to relocate his young family, that he needs new challenges, and that he wants desperately to be a baseball legend who took both major "cursed" franchises and turned them around...why the heckaroo would he leave Boston immediately after a team he's very responsible for just collapsed like that? That's straight up embarrassing, and to run from it from it right after? It makes me not want to buy the hype. I might even go as far as saying I PREFER Cherington, but I won't.
