  1. i see our scorers are having no trouble finnishing.
  2. reggie jefferson being white is still one of my favorites.
  3. his arm must be made of titanium... he survived jim leyland and dusty baker.
  4. the lions pretty much have to take a DT, right? their DTs are lousy and they have no depth there, plus there are two really good DTs (suh, warren) in the draft. i guess they could also take okung to make up for the error of not drafting oher last year.
  5. it's not that ESPN doesn't have people who know advanced metrics. rob neyer and keith law certainly do, buster olney does a little bit (though for a vanderbilt guy, he's still way to married to small ball and "traditional" stats), gammons did, i believe kurkjian does to some extent. but espn isn't going to start running features about UZR and WAR if 95% of their viewers don't know what those things are and don't want to know. they're a business and they cater to the casual baseball fan and the set-in-their-ways baseball fan; baseball prospectus caters to the much smaller segment of the population that is really into baseball and has an open mind for advanced metrics.
  6. good luck with that. espn got negative feedback on including [expletive] OPS in their broadcasts. Just curious, but where'd you hear that? If so, ....ugh. it just doesn't do much for them because there are a huge number of middle-aged and old (hell, probably some young) viewers who aren't interested in learning any stats outside of the basic ones, and for the viewers who are into sabermetrics, those people already understand how basic OPS is and aren't going to be wowed by its inclusion on broadcasts.
  7. good luck with that. espn got negative feedback on including [expletive] OPS in their broadcasts.
  8. I think Sweden's coach was out thinking himself the whole tournament. Instead of having 2 very very good lines, a solid 3rd and a grinding defensive minded 4th line, he chose to try to have 4 balanced lines. he might get canned after this olympics. a lot of swedish fans hate him and think he's been skating by because the team/goalie overachieved in 2006.
  9. congrats to slovakia. sweden didn't look like they played with much urgency until the very end. the guy on the sedins' line (weinhandl) looked completely useless; when they were on with forsberg they had a much better chance late in the 3rd. and what the [expletive] was sami pahlsson doing on the ice as the extra attacker? you've got the sedins, zetterberg, backstrom, forsberg, franzen, alfredsson and eriksson and you put a guy out there whose career high in points is 26???? just terrible.
  10. Delay rules make sense. The helmet rule doesn't. i'm okay with the delay rule when a player lifts the net off the moorings, but if he accidentally plays the puck up over the glass? there's no need for that to be a penalty, especially when they stop calling everything else late in games. seen that stupid rule decide too many games, defenseman swats at a rolling puck and it goes up over the glass, trying to make an outlet pass to a streaking teammate down the board and puts it a little too high, etc. just make it a defensive zone faceoff with no change for the team in their own zone, similar to an icing. or give the refs some discretion into the player's intention.
  11. the refs are basically letting the players tackle each other inside 10 minutes of the third period and no calls, but a player accidentally shoots it over the glass in his own end and he's going to the box. then the finns score. what a great rule.
  12. Yeah no doubt any team left in this tourney can beat the US and possibly should. This is the stage where things get tricky. I'm hoping like you said our speed and youth can be an x-factor in our favor as their tournament continues. Most of these players have played 2/3 of an NHL season and have been playing every other day or every day for the last 10 days in pressure packed games which has gotta take it's toll eventually. i would say that canada and sweden are more skilled than the u.s. the finns are pretty close and i think we're probably a little better than the czechs, just because miller is better than vokoun.
  13. finished watching the canada-russia game on dvr. what an embarrassing performance by russia, top to bottom. their forwards kept trying to stickhandle through traffic, and this resulted in way too many odd-man rushes. their commitment to getting back on defense was atrocious. their defense played soft and didn't clear the net. nabakov was shaken and let in a couple of soft goals, and for whatever reason the coaching staff didn't take advantage of an obvious way to shake up the team (goalie change after the first intermission). just a complete failure by russia. canada looked great but you can't beat canada by playing soft hockey and trying to score goals all by yourself. sweden, if they win, should give canada a much better challenge. the swedish forwards are much more committed defensively and their defense plays a sound system (though they don't have many guys who will clear the crease).
  14. i think they're playing way better than they did against USA. they look unbelievable right now My point was that Canada didn't play poorly against the US. They were on the attack most of the game. I guess you could say that they must be playing better because everyone considered Russia a better team than the US going into this tournament and they are getting manhandled by them while the US won. well the u.s. - hell, even the swiss defense - did a better job than russia's D in the first period. the play on the third goal was just terrible, malkin tried to beat two defenders himself and ended up giving up a rush the other way. you're basically playing an all-star team; you can't keep turning the puck over and giving odd-man rushes, and you have to actually hit someone and clear them out from in front of the net. the americans gave up lots of shots, but not a huge number of odd-man rushes and they were better about clearing out the screens. russia is just playing soft and dumb.
  15. that's the only bad goal he's given up. russia's blue line was suspect coming into the olympics and they've been atrocious this period. 20+ shots and a ton of great chances. they're out of position and nobody is clearing the front of the net.
  16. wow canada is just steamrolling them
  17. eddie o needs to stop saying that canada will upset russia; canada is favored in the game. higher seed doesn't matter.
  18. God this game is going to be awesome
  19. There was some article a while back where she said she picks out her clothes... can't remember where it was. Someone had interviewed her about her style. Still, at any other employer, that's sexual harassment -- whether his comments were accurate (I think they were, despite Storm being a fox) or otherwise. Except he has a history of criticizing everyone...male or female...for any number of things, including attire. I think sexual harrassment would be a tough thing to prove. i think it would be hard to prove that it's sexual in nature because he'll make fun of men for the same things.
  20. wtf game is eddie O watching... he's saying it's been really even so far? shots are 17-4 and we must have spent three times as much time in their zone.
  21. we're really dominating them down low. the swiss are doing very well to get in the shooting/passing lanes and block things off on good u.s. opportunities.
  22. those boots are ugly and the skirt looks like it was made out of fabric from a sofa made in 1973.
  23. he's playing much worse in this tournament than he has for the flyers this year. very very very much looking forward to russia-canada. i have a volleyball game in the middle of it but i'm definitely using the dvr.
  24. yeah, i also liked the two towers best. the helm's deep siege was amazing.
