  1. Harp away! I don't see Burroughs as a bench player long term. I think he can be an effective 2B with a .350 range OBP, ideal for 2-hole or 8-hole on a well disciplined team. I don't see Corey's future anymore in Cubbie Blue - Hendry is privately motivated to trade him ASAP. With such low value, Hendry needs to find a team that has a similar issue. I personally am open to any trade that gives the Cubs a player with upside potential. I am sick of Corey. He's just plain awful, and has single handedly killed this team with his incompetence in key situations. I'm not a big fan of Neifi either, so I want him cut ASAP.
  2. He can play 3B and 2B. Even though he's been struggling, he would replace Macias on the roster as an upgrade, and then compete for the 2B job next year. I don't think Walker will re-sign with the Cubs.
  3. Roast and Erik, I have no idea on what teams Hendry is in discussions with regarding Patterson, but one of my sources did indicate that Corey was being discussed as a package with pitching. Can't shed any light beyond this. Hoops No sweat. Thanks for the info, though. It'll be interesting to see if anyone bites and what we get for Corey if he does get traded. In a pure scenery change for scenery change deal, could you see Patterson being dealt to San Diego for Sean Burroughs?
  4. We should have the mods combine our individual threads into 1. As you can see I really liked your middleman approach. Sounds like a good idea. BOS, OAK and ChI would make an interesting pairing. I think Zito's going to be dealt and Boston could take Kotsay to replace Nixon. TEX, OAK and Chi could work too. Zito, Rusch and Walker to TX, etc., etc.... I'm guessing Zito stays put this season. He'll be next year's deadline trade bait.
  5. Not necessarily. What if I told you that the Cubs were eyeing Carl Everett?

  7. CubFaninCa gets the credit for this line of thinking - can we be the facilitator for some 3-way deals involving other teams' starting pitching, and better ourselves in the process? So, here's a few ideas to noodle over (SEA-CUBS-BOS) and (SF-CUBS-BALT): (1) Seattle trades Jamie Moyer and Shigetoshi Hasegawa (free agents after 2005) to Boston (2) Boston trades Trot Nixon (under contract through 2006) to the CUBS (3) CUBS trade Todd Hollandsworth to Boston, and Sergio Mitre and Jon Leicester to Seattle (1) SF trades Jason Schmidt to Baltimore and Ray Durham (under contract through 2006) to the CUBS (2) CUBS trade Corey Patterson, Todd Walker and Todd Wellemeyer to the Giants (3) Baltimore trades Jay Gibbons to the Cubs, and a medium level prospect to the Giants If both trades were made, the Cubs line-up would be: CF Hairston 2B Durham 1B Lee LF Nixon 3B Ramirez RF Burnitz C Barrett SS Cedeno Hoops
  8. I have no issue with Hendry for passing on Thome. That's just a dumb contract that Philly gave him - good for Thome, of course. Hendry passed on Kent twice. He should have signed him before Houston did a few years back, and he should have signed him to a 2-year deal this offseason before LA did. Kent plays in a totally different league than Todd Walker.
  9. Very good idea! And since we know Hendry is capable of architecting a 4-way deal, well then, a 3-way deal should be as easy as falling off a log. "architecting"? :? The funny thing is, I can't think of an alternative. engineering, perhaps? "putting together"

  12. And they are the consummate company men! Imagine how bad it really must be now.
  13. Lawton has a .271/.377/.825 line this year. How would that not be an upgrade? He's not Adam Dunn, but that .377 OBP would sure be nice. As I've said in other threads, I've always liked Matt Lawton in the first half of a season, but he's typically injured or unproductive in the 2nd half, so he can be a huge risk. My contact in Pittsburgh tells me Matt's a huge liability on the basepaths and in the outfield too, so that's plenty of cause for concern. But considering he's in his walk year, maybe he'll be extra motivated to remain healthy and perform well in the 2nd half with a contender since he's essentially playing for his next contract.
  14. In other words, the Cubs won't give them more than moderate prospects. Nor should they. Agreed. I still think the Cubs can do better than Preston Wilson. I am sure they can do better than Wilson as well, but I have the feeling that time is running out, and that Hnedry doesn't have the luxury of waiting until the last week of July to get something done. I think if Jim wants to salvage this season, he is going to have to overpay to expedite things. I wonder if Hendry is talking to the Pirates. 15. It's well thought out Don, but I don't see the Cubs moving Dempster. Not only is he a clubhouse leader, but he has shown the ability to close games at a fairly attractive price - one of my sources guessed recently that the Cubs will soon be working on an extension for Dempster at a fairly reasonable price. I think Hendry is trying to unload Patterson, Remlinger, Mitre and Rusch.

  18. I wish I was "The Man," but I thank you for your compliment anyway. I think Texas wants to dump Soriano for young talent - they can't afford him next year, his 6th year of service, where he could earn $10M. But to your point, it may take more to get him.
  19. 90% speculation, 10% insight. We definitely need OBP at the top and possibly some more SLG in the middle, and the Rangers need starting pitching and want to dump Soriano because they can't afford him at his 6th year of service figure next year. Nowhere near the certainty I had regarding the Choi for Lee deal - I knew about that deal the night before it happened - but I do know that Hendry is shopping Corey like there is no tomorrow despite what he may say in the press. Having thought about it some more and reading some of the comments here, the Cubs may need to add an additional good pitching prospect to make a deal like this work.
  20. Cubs trade Corey Patterson, Todd Walker, Glendon Rusch and Sergio Mitre to Texas for David Dellucci, Alfonso Soriano and Kameron Loe. Cubs lineup: LF Dellucci CF Hairston 1B Lee RF Burnitz 3B Ramirez 2B Soriano C Barrett SS Cedeno Feedback? Not good for us? Not good for Texas? Unrealistic?

  23. Florida is rumoured to be shopping him. They are in the thick of the race and Encarnacion has been fairly productive this season, so the only reason they must be looking to deal him is that he's a free agent at the end of this season, and they don't plan on bringing him back next year, and feel they can adequately replace him short term (Conine). I think they are looking to bolster relief pitching and get a prospect. If the choice came down to Preston Wilson or him, would he be the lesser of two evils? Encarnacion is making $4.5M in 2005.
