  1. It is forever amusing to me that people post "NTC" as if that is a conclusive end to the argument. Players with no-trade clauses have been traded before and will be traded again. To be sure, the Cubs would need Lee's approval but that's true of every other player who has had a NTC and was nevertheless traded. The fact that he has a no-trade clause is an impediment to trading him, but that doesn't mean it could not possibly happen.
  2. We need an actual adult at Shortstop. But Ronnie certainly isn't the answer.
  3. If I was running them in the offseason, I'd: 1. Do everything in my p$$ow$$er to sign Furcal. 2. Make an offer for Hermida that Florida can't refuse, Pie, Vitters, or anyone else necessary (the window for this team isn't that big given the long-term contracts for players over the age of 30) Furcal Derosa Lee Ramirez Hermida Soriano Soto Fukudome/Johnson
  4. I don't. If they knew New York was a favorable matchup, they certainly could have done a better job the last week of trying to generate that matchup.
  5. Lou's been totally low key in both games, too low key if you ask me. That one play that dropped just on the edge of the line (it looked fair on the replay--sorry but I forgot which one of our guys hit it).... Lou was sitting on the bench, he had no view of it at all. Then he realizes it might be a close play or someone said something and he hops up and starts looking out at the field, etc. He's got to be into the game at all times, come on. Lou seems to totally have lost his intensity. Silly. You actually believe that one of the problems is that Lou isn't intense enough?
  6. The Sun-Times reported it today.
  7. If Z pitches a gem tonight, I would not assume that Dempster would pitch a prospective Game 5. Z would be on 4 days rest in Game 5.
  8. I'd bet my left nut there won't be 18 elite players from that last. 5 would be a huge stretch.
  9. The Dodgers have already said that Lowe and Billingsly will start the first two games of the LDS, so that would mean: Game 1 - Dempster v. Lowe Game 2 - Zambrano v. Billingsly Games 3 and 4 would seem to fall to Kuroda, Kershaw, or Maddux. Maddux has been terrible since joining the Dodgers but Torre loves him some veterans. It seems we will have huge pitching advantages in LA (Harden and Lilly are better than any of the three Dodger starters), but I'm worried about the first two games. Lowe has been arguably the best pitcher in baseball over the last 50 days. Since August 11, he's allowed 6 earned runs -- total -- in 57.2 innings. That's good. And in September, he's allowed 2 earned runs -- total -- in 30.1 IP. If the Cubs can beat Lowe in Game 1, I think they have a very good chance to win it in 3-4 games. But that's going to be a very difficult task.
  10. Lou doesn't hate young players if they perform. He just has the patience of 2 year old. 4 games of bad at-bats and they're banished to Des Moines for 2 months.
  11. same here, that was the one and only game i ever attended in shea, it was with my dad, who's also a big cub fan. prior pitched great and dempster inexplicably walked two guys in the ninth inning. everyone remembers victor diaz, but a lot of people forget that craig brazell hit his one and only major league home run to end that game. it was extremely traumatic. f*** you, mets. As much crap as Hawkins gets for that game, it was Dempster's fault. Walking two guys with a three run lead is utterly inexcusable.
  12. Collapse aside, Mets lineup is quite a bit scarier. Plus Santana is better than any of their starters. It's a bit of a tossup for me. If Santana can only pitch once in the series, I want the Mets. The Dodgers lineup and rotation are both much deeper than the Mets. (Not to mention their bullpen) Dodgers lineup isn't nearly as good IMO In the second half -- which basically coincides with the additions of Manny and Blake and the end of Andruw Jones's playing time -- the Dodgers have a .785 team OPS, the Mets have a .800 team OPS. In the offenses are much closer than you think. And while Santana is the best pitcher on either team, Lowe, Billingsly, Kuroda, and Kershaw all might be better than the Mets #2. And the bullpens? Not even close. Assuming Santana pitches Sunday or Monday (and can only pitch once), I want the Mets.

  14. Yea... all that isn't going to happen. if it does get PPD...then they will have to play monday though They may or may not have to. Depends what happens in the rest of the games. Probably will need a makeup Monday, though. Oh man. This is setting up for a veritable explosion of hysteria among Crew fans. Mets 1/2 game up on the Crew. It's Monday the 29th. Lou fields a team consisting mostly of our bench, the Mets win, and Milwaukee goes nuclear. Yeah, well, Lou's obligation is to the health of the Cubs, not the happiness of the Brewers. And I believe the Cubs should flat out refuse to go to either game, even if it results in a automatic loss. A unnecessary road trip right before the playoffs, is not something the Cubs, need to be interested in doing. LOL. No. And what about when Selig says that the punishment for not going is forfeiting a game in the playoffs? Not realistic, you say? Neither is the notion that the Cubs would even consider refusing to play a game they're told to play (and which settles the wild card)
  15. Also because he's significantly significantly better defensively True, I saw him make a barehanded catch once and I climaxed. It was the greatest play of the century, well scratch that, it's only second behind Jeter's dive into the stands. I suppose if you want to ignore every defensive metric in existence you could persuasively argue that Ramirez is better than Wright defensively.

  17. If the Cubs win then the Mets would be tied with the Phils in the loss collumn and also hold the tie breaker. Do you really want to face the Phillies? I think that would be the worst case scenario. I don't really care if the Brewers win, I'll take a Dodgers matchup. The way Myers has looked recently? Bring 'em on. Hamels feels like an automatic L. I don't feel like that about many pitchers, either. I'd rather face Hamels than Santana. The thought of Dempster v. Santana in a decisive Game 5 makes me cringe.

  19. Other than the huge 3-run bomb he allowed tonight?
  20. They are down 3-1. I'm sure Hawk isn't even announcing. The frustrating part has to be losing to a Twin team that isn't all that good. Except the fact that Twins are a really good team. The are 2 games off their PYthagorean Record...So it's not as if they are flukes. Twins are a really good team, prolly better then the White Sox, who coincendentally are playing right were they should be. So don't underestimate the Twins. I guess, the thing about them isn't their Pythagorean, its that they are scoring runs with a really really bad offense. They trot out the likes of Nick Punto, Carlos Gomez, Alex Casilla, just limitless amounts of mediocre to bad players. The only 2 everyday players with OPS's over .800 is Morneau and Mauer Kubel
  21. They only scratched 3 hits. His stuff was good, I just think Wolf got into his head that 3rd inning. I agree. He'll be fine.
  22. That 3-2 might have been ball 4, given his OPB matches his BA and not having the stats in front of me, I'm guessing that would have been his first this season. Z has 5 walks. In his career.
