Cubs scouting director Tim Wilken, honored as one of baseball's top scouts, says the Cubs essentially "traded up" in next June's draft. They have the third pick overall and added what could be the 31st as compensation for losing Pierre while giving up their second-round pick for signing Soriano. The Cubs had only one pick in the first four rounds this year, giving up picks to sign Jacque Jones, Bob Howry and Scott Eyre.
