  1. i need some help from you guys if you have some time. i am entering a keeper league fantasy baseball league and i was wondering if you guys could help me with some of the prospects that could be expected to play this year or next in the show. i want to grab some prospects in the later rounds to try and strike gold. any help would be appreciated. not sure if this should go here or in a different area.
  2. gooney i am curious to how you think st louis has a solid lineup? compare position to position and i feel we are better. C. barrett >Molina 1B. Lee<=Pujols pujols is slightly better 2B walker>spivey SS Cedeno =eckstein 3B Aramis=Rolen both good but injury prone LF Murton>taguchi CF pierre RF Jones> whoever they throw out there just curios as to what makes them so much better and how they dont have a glaring hole in RF.
  3. i guess i am the only one that feels this way but if i had a choice of playing ball, being rich, and being able to tuck my kids into bed most nights or playing ball, being rich, and seeing my kids every now and then i would take the first option. i wanted giles like the rest of the people on here but i knew we wouldnt get him. some players sign for money, some for titles, some for playing time, and some for personel reasons. sometimes u cant buy a player out of what he wants or how he feels. u cant always get the guys you want so i will continue to supprt the guys we do have even if i dont agree with them being here.
  4. there are bigger things in life than baseball and money. giles had no intentions of uprooting his family and leaving the west coast if he did i would be willing to bet that alot more teams than just the yankees and cards would have been after him.
  5. i dont think we stood a chance with giles. the man is all ready filthy rich so why do people think that he would want to uproot his family and leave the nice and warm west coast for a few million more to play in ice cold wrigley? i believe that he had the intentions of going back to san diego all along.
  6. i am sure that the rf u are refering to is giles, but what i do not understand is why everyone just assumes we could have got him. just because u want someone doesnt mean u can get him. would i have liked giles, of course, do i think jones is good no but he was probably the best option availabe at the time so that is what we got. i think he will do ok until something better comes along next year so i can live with him for a year or two.
  7. i just dont see a package of prospects from the cubs that could net tejada. i think that pie is the only real stud prospect we have. hill is old for a prospect, guzman cant stay healthy, dopirak cooled off this year. cedeno is a decent prospect but not a true stud. i am curious as to what kind of package you think the O's should take from the cubs for miggy.
  8. my point about trading tejada for prospects is that there is no one they should trade a proven stud for a bunch of prospects they need someting proven in return. prior and prospect for tejada and bedard is a fair trade, most might not like it but it is fair.
  9. i will admit that i have just skimmed this thread but i am wondering why most think tejada should be had for prospects? i am not big on trading prior either but to get quality you have to give it up and i think that tejada is the best all around shortstop in baseball(arod is a 3rd baseman). no one here would trade prior for prospects so why would the O's trade tejada for prospects? just my opinion.
  10. cant say that i like the length of the deal but i am guessing he will be a cub for 3 years and not the starting right fielder of the cubs for the next 3 years. i don't mind him as a bench player but as a starter i am not so hot on him.
  11. first off i hope that people quit bringing up willis because no one saw that coming. if u insist on always using willis as your point i will use choi and hill for lee and ramirez. also mitre is a decent pitcher but he would never crack the rotation or the pen for the cubs so not a big loss. u can call mitre a #4 starter if u are the marlins but if u are the cubs u call him a AAA at best player. pinto has potential but it looks like he is doing the same thing over the winter that he did for iowa, TERRIBLE. nolasco is where it gets dicey but to get something you need you have to trade someone, teams arent just going to give u a solid leadoff hitter for a box of cracker jacks. i am happy that hendry is trading from a strength and not trading away hitting prospects because we are a bit thin there.
  12. i know that i am in the minority here but as far as that trade goes i would do it 10 out of 10 times. i believe that we over value our own prospects a bit and that while it is very beneficial to get good production for cheap(prospects) with the payroll the cubs have they can always trade potential for production. with a 100 million dollar payroll the cubs are better served trading away prospects that are hit or miss for players that you know exactly what you are getting. some work out some dont but that is the chance you take. i feel alot better with the other teams taking the chance on the players turning out to be good then the cubs taking that chance. this is just my opinion fire away at will with how you feel.
  13. i just dont see why people think we can get ryan, giles, burnett, furcal etc. this is not fantasy baseball and i for one do not think that an old giles is worth 10 million a year. i for one am happy with how the offseason is going so far. i havent really heard of anyone besides the yankees interested in paying giles price.
  14. i also think that with the long infield grass at wrigley pierre will have even greater success on slap hits and bunts
  15. to me it seems obvious that pinto is the main piece and that the other two players are not going to be on his level. i really like this trade for pierre. for all of his shortcomings he is a LEADOFF hitter that we need to get on in front of lee and aram. to me our window to win is closing and i for one would really like to make the push now and worry about if pinto turns out to be good player or not later. and while i am rambling i like both the eyre and howry deals. solidify the bulllpen and now move on to the offense. i think we all need to give hendry a chance to do his thing and judge the offseason as a whole and not jump all over each move.
