  1. Thanks, really appreciate it. I even googled the exact quote (which is how I remembered it) and found nothing but my own use of the quote on the OOTP baseball game forums. Since I couldn't find the reference anywhere else, I was beginning to believe I made it all up while in some sort of delusional state.
  2. I'm hoping someone can help me out. Looking for a quote, having no luck googling it. The story goes like this: Brett's being interviewed by a reporter after an away game, and they asked what he was going to do that night. He said he was going back to his hotel, and when pressed further he said he was going to watch the Cubs game because he always watched Ryne Sandberg play. If anyone can give me a link with the exact quote/story, it would be much appreciated!
  3. Yeah, because no one debates Jim Rice's HoF credentials. Maybe that says more about Jim Rice... :D I think what I was going for here is that a lot of people debated Rice's hall candidacy and he played in Boston. What I was going for is that his candidacy is given a huge boost by his having played for Boston. There are no legions of Expo fans supporting Dawson for the Hall. My point is that if Dawson had played for the Red Sox from '77 through '86, I believe he would already be in the HoF.

  5. You're kidding - this was the same game that Rob Dibble guns down Dascenzo? Can't believe I forgot that. Thanks to all for the help!
  6. I read earlier in this thread that their was a big difference between older (favoring) and younger fans (against) Dawson in the HOF. I love Moneyball/Bill James/sabermetrics as much as anyone, but I simply can't see the argument that Dawson WASN'T one of the best players of his era. If that's the case, then there's virtually no one from the 80's who deserves to be in the HOF. I was 7 years old when Dawson joined the Cubs in '87, but having a father and grandfather who were lifelong Cubs fans, I watched a lot of games. This was back in the day when WGN broadcasted 140+ games a season so I could watch virtually every game even living in Oregon. What I remember more about Dawson than anything is: 1) Dawson throwing out runners going to third. I can't name any exact plays, but they always seemed to make the runner come up and do a double take, like, "where the hell did that come from?". 2) His intentional walk game. Now that may say more about the rest of the Cubbies' lineup than Dawson himself, but still, anyone who is given 5 IBB in a single game is someone to be feared/respected/whatever. I never got to see him play in Montreal...a little before my time. Seriously though...if he had been a Yankee or Red Sox instead of an Expo, would we even be having this debate?
  7. I'm familiar with baseball reference, baseball library, etc etc. I'm not able to find this game by searching though. Anyone know the date or even the season it occurred? Who was the opponent?
  8. I'm trying to remember the details of a game from my youth and figured this was the place to turn. I'm thinking of a game at Wrigley where Dawson was out on a bad call (called third strike maybe?) and he went back to the dugout, grabbed a bunch of bats, and threw them onto the field. I remember the crowd booing for many minutes and they started to litter the field with garbage. I watched the game on WGN. These are all the details I can remember. I'm looking for more details of the incident, the date, etc - and video footage on the off chance it's out there. Thanks in advance for any help!
