  1. Sitting on my back porch last night sipping a cold beverage, I heard some music playing. I could tell it was Sinatra. I could make out some of the lyrics not all. "Don't you love the farce? Losing my timing this late in my career. Where are the clowns, send in the clowns, there ought to be clowns. Don't bother they're here. Well, maybe next year."
  2. they wont make the playoffs. going down in spectacular fashion.
  3. I was told if you want a companion that wont let you down, get a dog. So we did. Cutest, sweetest, most lovable companion. There when I wake, all day. sleeps in bed with us. You cant help but fall in love. Take him out in the morning, does beautifully. Takes care of business after lunch runs out wees and woos beautifully. Best companion ever. Second half of the day, 2 o'clock, you cant get him to go down the stairs. Its like he forgot. Drag him out the door, nothing. He stares at me like what are we doing? Perfect companion cant pull the trigger, seems lost. Head back upstairs, craps the bed, wees the carpet. Same after dinner, Scratch my head. Same animal, same place second half of the day. Lost. But I love him. Everyone says so lovable,, but he cant get it done. I guess he's my lovable loser.
  4. What do they say, you can try but its difficult not to look at the train wreck. Or is it express way accident? Either, I'll keep watching. Its ugly, its unfortunate. You feel bad. You keep looking for a sign of life, hope. Deep down you know its to late, Its badly wrecked. Participants in the accident try to look one another in the eye. Its hard. There are kids involved. That's future therapy. Sirens but no ambulance. Fault to go around. Court dates are pending. Play em out, tow them away.

  5. Two couples in their thirties, north side neighbors of ours. Heading to Wrigley, second half season game against the under .500 Royals. Beautiful summer night. They bought their bleacher seats back in May. We're waking our dog later that night, 10ish, they're returning. "Hey, how was the game?" "Oh, so much fun, we were in the bleachers, drinking beer. Did you know they have margaritas?" Met a bunch of bleacher creatures, Such a great time." "Who won?" "Oh, Royals 12-4. Several homers were thrown back to the field, so great." " The Cub pitchers got shelled, but we didn't care such a fun night." "Cubs left the bases loaded twice, once with no outs. We thought something might happen." "Doesn't matter, so much fun, we cant wait to go to another game."
  6. As a life long Chicago Cubs fan thank you for a first half season of joy and fun. It is mid August and unfortunately something is obviously wrong, and that's a shame. 11-13 since the break, 8 games back of first. We have met the enemy and its the offense. The hitters have succumbed to the pressure. Tight, pressing, expanding, swinging. They are no longer playing fun, loose, nothing to lose baseball. You can see it in their eyes. Crow-Armstrong, Tucker, Happ, Suzuki, Swanson look like deer in the headlights at the plate. Runners on second and third no outs, heart of the order, three straight ugly strikeouts. Embarrassing. They can no longer do the easy. 2nd half runners in scoring position, sorry not gonna happen. Good teams have good second halfs. Five games at Wrigley against the Brewers. We will all know soon if they are pretenders.
