    The largest negative for the Cubs is a real reticence to commit to anything, the "conservative" approach of ownership directs the hands-on management to do "something" but not over commit and the results are assuring middling results from even a group of talented players. The previous core group is the example here, and the current team certainly lacks their overall talent.

    Well once you establish yourself you are judged on results, the eyeball test as it were, instead of stats. I am not trying to trash you and your thoughts, just make the point that stats are not the end all and be all for judgement. Do not take it personally.

    Re: Greg Maddux - Average pitch velocity, height - Larry Himes was silly enough to think he was not worth retaining. Similar to releasing Schwarber because of his strikeouts and LOW batting average. He has been in the playoffs every year since then, Jed and Tom are O-for.

    Statistics are really valued in finance, you guys are traveling the wrong path. You can prove Greg Maddux would never be more than an AA pitcher.

    Is there a truthful biography of the story of how Poppa Joe built his business, seems to me his philosophy explained would be a good guide as to how the Cubs are administered. He is the person who made the basic financial base for team ownership.

    Why would they begin with Mervis, but not PCA. One is plainly a better defensive and speed player than the other.
