  1. Anderson is really bad defensively too I think
  2. Come on. It's OK, you don't have to like the Miles signing. You also don't have to reach for assumptions to display your distaste of it. How is it an automatic that "it would have been worth it?" The Dodgers invested alot of money in that middle infield and they have more questions than certainties with them for the money paid. Back injuries tend not to help players and a little guy with marginal power doesn't help himself with a wrist injury (at least in the first year after injury). Sure, there's a chance that both have big years, but there are enough questions about them to at least not fawn over their signings as if it was something masterful. $8 mil and a first round pick for one year of Hudson is not great. I dont hate the Miles signing. It just is what it is. A backup/platoon middle infielder. Im just saying that if we could have gotten something better for a reasonable price, we should have. Every year people have to jump all over 1 player as being an overpaid contract (i.e. Marquis, J. Jones, etc.) People said those players were overpaid because they were overpaid
  3. hes going to end up with a career warp between 90-100 or pretty close.... hes had three seasons with a warp over 8, thats one fewer than zambrano and two more than josh beckett and the same amount as andy pettitte. not that warp means a lot, but it illustrates a point Just answer this- Is Javier Vazquez a stud pitcher?
  4. so what if he's not great? for most of his career he's been above-average and durable. plus he's spent a lot of the last five years pitching in front of lousy defenses, so his fielding-independent ERA has been better than his actual ERA. even if he's a #2/3 and eats a lot of innings, that's still a valuable commodity. Did you read the thread? Meph's Vazquez post was in response to Badnews asking if Chris Young could be the centerpiece of a trade for a "stud" pitcher. Is Vazquez a stud pitcher? No. Did anybody say he was a bad pitcher? No.
  5. At 2.28 Huet now has the 6th best GAA in the NHL. We've got a pretty good situation in the net right now
  6. This isn't really the correct way to think about anything. Miles shouldn't be in the lineup over Fontenot, but Miles and Fukudome are completely unrelated. They don't affect each other. Fukudome (unless he starts crushing the ball and you can't take him out of the lineup against LHP) should only be playing against RHP to start the season, while Miles should only be playing against LHP... if that. If Miles and Fukudome are in the same lineup that means one is facing their unfavorable split while a guy who rakes against that split (Fontenot against RHP, Johnson against LHP) is on the bench. That's why they're related in this conversation. Kosuke had no platoon split last year. And what about in his 4503 PAs in Japan? You don't think Fukudome will end up being better vs righties than lefties? You don't want him platooned with Johnson? Johnson has a career .836 against LHP (.869 last 3 seasons). Do you think Fukudome comes close to matching that against LHP? And for the record, even though his split OPS was only .17 apart, he was still a different hitter against LHP and RHP. All 10 home runs came against righties. His OPS was somewhat evened out by his higher average against lefties, but his BABIP was also much higher. I can't find LD% splits but I'd be guess by his 10-0 home run splits that he didn't hit the ball harder against lefties and the high BAIP was more luck than anything.
  7. lol so Vazquez is a stud pitcher now? When you try to pump a pitcher up with "4 time 200 k guy" ad nothing else, that's a pretty good indication that he's not a great pitcher.
  8. fixed re-fixed I know a lot of this is probably tongue in cheek, but the irrational Aaron Miles hatred that has been building around here lately is silly. Yes, he is just a reserve type middle infielder without a lot of power. But he shouldn't be in baseball? They guy hit .317 last year with a .355 OBP in 379 AB's. If a guy that can do that doesn't even belong in baseball there should be a lot of 22 man rosters. He sure belongs to be in a baseball at least as much or more than Ronny Cedeno who was the Cubs' utility infielder last season and I assume will be on the Mariners roster this year. I'm going to go out on a limb and say all of us are mad that DeRosa was traded. We don't want Miles at 2nd, we want DeRosa. You wont get Miles at 2B and you wont miss DeRosa by June if Lou is serious about playing Fontenot everyday. Only if Bradley actually stays healthy
  9. You're right. I didn't realize he said that. Sorry. All I remembered atthe time was that badnews said Cameron was overrated.
  10. This isn't really the correct way to think about anything. Miles shouldn't be in the lineup over Fontenot, but Miles and Fukudome are completely unrelated. They don't affect each other. 11. As has been mentioned before, there aren't performance based incentives (unless you count incentives based on awards), so he'll probably get close to the full 8 million if he just stays healthy. As much as I dislikd the Miles signing, I'd probably have rather done than than give Hudson close to 8 mil AND lose the first round pick.
  12. what?? a max of 2.1m for miles versus a max of 8m for hudson? miles sucks, but i'll take his deal over a recovering-from-wrist-injury-Hudson everyday. especially when you consider the lost draft pick, had we have signed hudson. thinking that the miles contract looks worse b/c of this deal is pretty foolish. Its a 3.4 mil base with 380,000 in incentives, making 4.6 the max, so yeah, Id definitely rather have Hudson at that price than Miles at 2.1. 380,000 is the signing bonus. It's 3.4 plus a possible 4.6 in incentives. If he meets all the incentives he'll make 8 mil.
  13. It seemed like Lou didn't like Pie from the start though, and never intended to really give him an extended chance. It seems like Fontenot is the opposite. He's liked Fontenot from the beginning. Last offseason when most of us thought Fontenot wouldn't/shouldn't make the opening day roster Lou told Fontenot early in ST not to worry and that he was making the team no matter what. It seems like Fontenot is one of his favorites so I think Lou will give him some time if he starts off slowly, but you never know. I'm still worried because Miles seems like Lou's kind of guy.
  14. you cant post that without posting this announcer always cracks me up
  15. Doesn't really mean anything, especially considering the circumstances. Victor Zambrano landed Scott Kazmir. Who was the centerpiece in the trade for Santana?
  16. Miles and Fukudome shouldn't be in the same lineup
  17. i'll take that as you not being able to defend your argument anymore. really i think the most shocking development in this thread is that murton actually was extremely valuable. i mean afterall, he landed us harden
  18. which is higher....the risk of not being able to find an average left fielder, or the risk of losing a cheap/young stud hitter? minimized reward.
  19. You counting MJ on the inbound? Otherwise BJ Armstrong was the first to touch the ball. My favorite part of that is BJ Armstrong falling backwards as Paxson releases (in celebration). Way to not be prepared if Pax missed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIi0CTMrHEY HHAHAH. I can't believe I never noticed that. What the hell happened? Nobody even touched him and it didn't look like he tripped. He was standing still and suddenly just collapsed for no reason
  20. I may have said he sucks in a fit of anger during a game, but I know he doesn't. I can't believe we have to keep going back to this point in the argument. It's not Huet sucks vs. Huet doesn't suck. It's Khabi vs. Huet and whether the team will be improved for this year by trading Khabi for a forward. I say they wouldn't. I haven't seen a single person say Huet is better than Khabi or even that he should be starting over Khabi Whatever, I don't even care. Just don't act like you don't know why the argument takes place. You've even admitted you irrationally hate Huet...then denied it like 10 minutes later The next time Huet has a bad game there will be multiple posts trashing him, guaranteed. The next time Khabi has a bad game his name won't even be mentioned
  21. well that 11 point lead disappeared quickly
  22. You can have incentives for awards and all-star appearances though
  23. Show me how I'm wrong We've now resorted an "eyeball test" ro judge the worth of a player who has above average numbers I don't take sides in this endless argument... wasn't directed at you at all... it was directed at EVERYONE. Oh Ijust don't get why everybody has to constantly take shots at Huet. It's like the people who say Soriano sucks because of his flaws
