  1. So if we assume Wing gets ~$1 million, the Cubs are probably out on the Fisher, Appenzeler, Bauer types who'd require $2 million or more (and it sounds like Appenzeler and Bauer are headed to college anyways). I assume the Cubs can swing another ~$1 bonus type in the top 10 rounds and then another big swing in round 11 (but Hope and Lovich got mid-6-figures).
  2. Dodgers took Aidan West who Greg Z had said the Cubs liked (would've been another $1M-type bonus).
  3. But he also took Jackson Ferris (top 25 bonus in his draft year) the last time he went as far underslot as Greg Z assumes Conrad will be. (But Wing is probably more in the Southisene/Mulé low 7-figures bonus area.)
  4. Cubs select: RHP Kaleb Wing, Scotts Valley HS (CA) - Loyola Marymount (CA) commit
  5. All of this is well said but I will add to that the bold seems to no longer be accurate for prep pitchers rated as first round values unless they are Seth Hernandez-level talents. Teams "float" most of the 15-50th rated prep pitchers to later rounds because of the additional risk of prep pitchers (so they can take safer guys earlier). As you noted, these kids can still get late first round money.
  6. Hoping for one of Matthew Fisher, Cam Appenzeller or Briggs McKenzie tomorrow. Gavin Turley from the college hitter ranks.
  7. Scheduled Games (Central Time): ACL Cubs at ACL Angels, 8:00 pm DSL Cubs Blue vs. DSL Arizona Black, 10:00 am DSL Cubs Red at DSL Pirates Black, 10:00 am All full season teams are off till Friday
  8. Some highlights: Kantrovitz thinks Conrad is a CF and called him a 5-tool player. He will miss the rest of the summer. Kantrovitz says they’ll have a lot of financial flexibility tomorrow which is probably as much as he can spell out their plans for tomorrow.
  9. Callis said he might rank him second behind only Caissie.
  10. Clearly Kantrovitz doesn't envision him as a 4th OF if he's picking him in the 2nd and using at or nearly full slot. And I feel like Kantrovitz has had some success in St Louis with that archetype of annoying starting position player who didn't tremendous draft pedigree (and he has a few minor leaguers in that mold with the Cubs too - Christian Franklin, Brett Bateman, Jonathon Long, Carter Trice).
  11. There's definitely some slot savings from Conrad and Reid. Maybe Kepley too. Maybe they've saved $1-$1.4 million today to spread out tomorrow. Wonder if the Cubs cash in some of that overslot money in the 4th round tomorrow after making some calls tonight. And then another push in the 11th round when the loss of pool space risk drops off.
  12. 1. Ballesteros 2. Caissie 3. Rojas 4. Wiggins 5. Conrad
