I don't think there'd be a difference between macias and hairston/neifi defensively at third base...and if so, the difference is not worth the offensive hit you take with macias in the lineup. and yes, when I said perez has value as a backup shortstop, that is what I meant. backup shortstops are never (unless your name is jose valentin or jose hernandez) meant to be pinch-hitting options after the 4th inning or before the 14th inning.

neifi has value. the cubs could do worse for a backup shortstop. macias, I would not miss. I don't know why hairston is not getting PAs.
