  1. oh man, missed opportunity to end it there by Spain
  2. this game is on an NBC affiliate in STL, which we get but all it ever shows is infomercials, never cards games, so this game is blacked out on TBS for me. how stupid. come on manny!
  3. I don't know what this is from, but my friend sent it to me: Vazquez has made three starts against the Cubs as a member of the White Sox, recording a 4.95 ERA without a decision. He has allowed 10 runs in 13 innings in his last two starts at Wrigley, but isn’t concerned about the Cubs lineup. “You should go to the American League and you’ll see more potent lineups,” he told the White Sox’s official Web site. I hope we light him up with like, 5 in the first. I hate this team so much.
  4. Hill ran his mouth a couple of years ago and got himself demoted over it, which tells you that the attitude starts at the top of the organization. Oh yeah, I do remember that. I remember Ozzie saying something about how that rookie was gonna get Dusty fired or something.
  5. Honestly, I don't think there is a more pathetic organization. All they do is badmouth and rip on the Cubs. It's kind of funny how the Cubs know it's just another series, and they want to beat up on the Sox because it's another series and they want to beat up on everyone. The Sox treat this as life and death though. They run their mouths whether they win or lose, and we just let our play on the field do the talking. You'd never hear Lou or the Cubs players run their mouths after a game like the Sox do. What an embarrassment.
  6. Seriously. This is becoming a joke. Today they feature Aaron Miles batting second, Jason LaRue, Adam Kennedy at freakin' DH, Brendan Ryan at SS, and no Pujols. This is a collection of misfits and they put up 9 freaking runs.
  7. Holy cow Russia what a goal.
  8. The Cubs don't need another reliever. The pen is fine. I look at it like this. Besides Marmol, there isn't a guy who is going to come in and shut the opponents down. If he's struggling, there is no one. I'd love to make a move on Fuentes or someone, send Cotts down for Ascanio, and when we trade for Burnett or Sabathia, see if they will take Howry in the deal. Howry will somewhat help even out the money, and he's an FA after this year, so he'll help Cleveland or Toronto recoup the draft picks they'd get when Sabathia walks and if Burnett walks. I don't think the bullpen is a HUGE need, but it very well could be if Marmol struggles for awhile. I assume you're not counting Woody in there since he's the closer. Wuertz currently has an ERA+ or 174 (better than Marmol) and certainly has the ability to be a shut down reliever - something he's shown on many occasions. Scott Eyre has had one bad outing this year against Tampa Bay, though he did come in to the highest leverage situation there is (if you don't consider the inning). Starting in July of last year, he's been lights out (ERA of 0 in July, 1.86 in August, 0 in September and 0.87 this year if you take out that the one appearance against Tampa). He's proven over four months to be a more than adequate reliever. So that's three reliever, in addition to Woody, that Lou should have faith in. If he doesn't, well, that's his problem. Howry has definitely been shaky but I'm hoping he can repeat last year where he got better the second half of the year. I'd also like to see Ascanio get called up because he was fine when he was with the Cubs. I've got no problems with Eyre or Wuertz, they've been great, but when they come in I expect them to give up a few base runners here and there. Say Marmol struggles and loads the bases. There is no one else in the pen that I feel that we could bring in and get the big strike out in that situation. I felt that way with Wuertz last year, but not so much this year. It'd be nice to have another guy like that on the team to help out if Marmol hits a rough patch. Again, I wouldn't go out and overpay for one, and I'm more than willing to give Howry a few more weeks to see if he gets it all together, but if we near the deadline and his ERA is still in the upper 4's, I think it's something we have to look into.
  9. Just ridiculous. That should be a .400 team, not a .600 one. I said many times at the beginning of the year that the Cards would be lucky to win 70 games. F them.
  10. A quick google search says 18 by the '53 Yanks. Nevermind I don't think that's right.

  13. Another reason why I'd like to land another reliever at the deadline. I also wouldn't mind moving Howry.
  14. It seems like Lou is always trying to save him for extras or if our starter gets rocked early. One inning here and there isn't going to impact Lieber that much.
  15. I said that to my Cards friend. I told him I fully expect them to sweep the Red Sox to make up getting swept by the Royals.
  16. I read that as "then go watch the Cards beat up on the BoSox. I can think of no better way to end my Saturday afternoon." I got mad at you for a second.
  17. I agree, if you give him a ton of time off he's just gonna pile on more rust, IMO. Don't use him tomorrow, we have the day off Monday, and hopefully we only need him for an inning or two against Baltimore.
  18. This is why I'd like to land another big reliever before the break. Obviously I don't want to give up a ton for one and an SP is my first choice, but just in case Marmol has stretches where he's struggling with his command, it'd be nice to have another shutdown reliever. I have a lot of confidence in our pen, but as for our middle guys, we don't have anyone who I consider to be a shutdown reliever.
