  1. I'm extending the deadline by 48 hours to see if we can get more entries. The new deadline to get in your teams is Tuesday April 3 at 11:59:59PM.
  2. I forgot about the Tokyo series but I'm not going to change the Derby deadlines. Any HRs in Tokyo will count for the Regular Season.
  3. I will get the ball rolling. Group A: Jose Bautista Group B: Evan Longoria, Joey Votto Group C: Pablo Sandoval, Hunter Pence, Eric Hosmer Group D: Jason Heyward, Ryan Zimmerman, Colby Rasmus, Jason Kubel, Delmon Young
  4. The goal: Build a HR team to collect the most MLB ROUND-TRIPPERS! Pick a roster of 12 hitters. The first 11 hitters must include: --1 batter from Group A --2 batters from Group B --3 batters from Group C --5 batters from Group D The 12th hitter is your Wild Card and can be any player not listed here. You don't have to pick a WC player on a 25-man roster, but you obviously risk not accruing HRs if your player is stashed in the minors. Post your first 11 selections in this thread. The deadline for posting is 11:59:59 PM Central Time on Sunday, April 1 2012. The thread will be locked at the deadline. You must PM your Wild Card selection to me! Do not post it with your entry. It WILL NOT COUNT unless it's PM'd to me by the deadline. RULES Throughout the season, you may make 4 adds/drops to your core roster of 11 players. The following rules apply to adds/drops: --You must drop a player to add another player. A drop/add is one transaction. --You must post your transaction in the HR Derby transaction thread. The transaction becomes effective at midnight CT the day you post it. You will accrue the dropped player's HRs in any game started by midnight CT that day. You will accrue the added player's HRs for any games starting after midnight CT the next day. --No transactions between the deadline on April 1 and noon CT on April 4 and also after noon CT September 15. --If you only post an add without a drop or there's any other problem deciphering your intent, the transaction isn't finalized until it's straightened out. --You may make 2 transactions before the All-Star Game and 2 transactions after the All-Star Game. These transactions apply only to the core roster and not the WC player. It's use or lose it -- if you don't make 2 transactions before the All-Star Game, you still only get 2 transactions afterwards. --The player added must be drawn from the same group as the player dropped. --No clones. You can't have the same player more than once. --MLB rules for stats will be followed for any games postponed, suspended, etc. --You can only change your WC player once and only at the All-Star break ... so choose carefully! --I will be providing updates roughly once a week throughout the season. If you have any scoring questions, please post them in the discussion thread or PM me. Final decisions on scoring are up to me. Winner --Anyone can enter. The winner has to be a member in good standing (in other words, not banned) at the conclusion of the season in order to collect a prize. *** --Tiebreaker goes to the person who posted their HR Derby team first. --You can change your HR Derby team as often as you'd like before the deadline. Just EDIT your original post instead of posting a new team. If you enter two teams, only the first team will count as your entry. GROUPS Had to use images, so if you have images in posts disabled, you might want to enable them so you can build your team. http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll31/southpaw19_josh/2012HRD/GroupA.png http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll31/southpaw19_josh/2012HRD/GroupB.png http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll31/southpaw19_josh/2012HRD/GroupC.png http://i284.photobucket.com/albums/ll31/southpaw19_josh/2012HRD/GroupD.png _____________________________________________ Past HR Derby Champs 2006 - UMFan83 2007 - Wekse 2008 - The Logan 2009 - vance 2010 - TruffleShuffle 2011 - Bob Sanders _____________________________________________ EXAMPLE ENTRY Group A: PLAYER ONE Group B: PLAYER TWO, PLAYER THREE Group C: PLAYER FOUR, PLAYER FIVE, PLAYER SIX Group D: PLAYER SEVEN, PLAYER EIGHT, PLAYER NINE, PLAYER TEN, PLAYER ELEVEN WILD CARD: PM'D TO SOUTHPAW19
  5. Can the BBCode for creating tables be turned on? I'm trying to post a clean look for the HR Derby groups.
  6. I'm going to try something different this year. We are a month out from getting this year's Derby rolling with official team entries, but I wanted to gauge interest this year ahead of time. So what I'd like to do is create this sign up thread. All you need to do is confirm your committment to participating this year, and if you have a Cubs related item to donate for prizes, I'd appreciate knowing that as well. I'd like to get back to prizes for the winner and runner up. So the response should look like this: Username: Participating: (yes/no) Item to Donate: (yes/no)* * if yes, please PM me with details
  7. Me too... somehow this doesn't make the road grays so boring.
  8. The home whites are the least offensive, but that hat logo is monsterous!
  9. Because I believe he's already started his decline, stat-wise. I just don't think he's worth it. I don't think he wants a team-friendly deal. I still believe he wants top dollar and feels he can get it elsewhere. Sure it will be tough to match his historic power and production, but is it really worth it in the short term? Historic as in 2011? He finished the year as one of the best offensive 3B in the game. I've argued in favor of letting him go, getting a comp pick and investing those millions elsewhere. But I'm not "definitely" against having him come back. I can certainly see scenarios where I'd be thrilled to have him on the team for 2012. No historically he's hit between 20-30 HRs career since coming to the Cubs, but I still feel he's not worth the risk. Now would I piss and moan if he was back for '12? No, because he's not the only hole/problem on the team. There are more pressing things to address. I would just prefer if he left at this point.

  11. Would you rather have Cuddyer or Pena as a fall back?
  12. The Twins are nearly polar opposite of the typical Boston mindset. Also, the Twins may stress fundamentals, but Kubel & Cuddyer are both pretty brutal defensively, iirc. Okay - my mistake. I just thought it might be an option. I definitely don't want Aramis back, and would be willing to sign a one-year stop gap ala Pena in the form of Edwin Encarnacion or the like.
  13. I'm not sure if this was posted, and I'm not going through 240+ pages to find out. If it was, my apologies, but I found this funny. From ObstructedView.net http://www.obstructedview.net/images/stories/allyourgm.jpg
  14. I didn't see any topic on this already, but I would like to sign Cuddyer for 3B and let Ramirez walk. It will fill a hole and even if it's not long-term, it would allow the Cubs to fill the gap for 2012 while they seek other alternatives.
  15. Theo's a sabermetric guy. Not a big enough sample size. Ok fair enough. Add in these to the playlist and I think the choice is quite clear. ;) "Back to Chicago" - Styx "Born in Chicago" - Paul Butterfield "Calling Me Home, Chicago" 1985 - Composer: Paul David Wilson "Chi-City" - Common "Chicago" - Alexz Johnson "Chicago" - Big D and the Kids Table "Chicago" - Bis "Chicago" - Clueso "Chicago" - Da Brat "Chicago" - The Doobie Brothers "Chicago (That Toddlin' Town)" - Fred Fisher, popularized by Frank Sinatra "Chicago" - Frédéric François "Chicago" - Hieroglyphics "Chicago" - Ingram Hill "Chicago" - Kate Voegele "Chicago" - Lucy Wainwright Roche "Chicago" - Portugal. 16. This is why Wikipedia is wayyyyy worse than Twitter. Twitter is awesome.
  17. Theo is going to use shuffle on his iPod to make the decision for him. The catch is there are only two tracks on the playlist: "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" and "My Kind of Town" First one to play wins. Or best of seven. :)
  18. Congratulations to Bob Sanders - worst to first!
