It was dumb but at least alternating was fair and that's likely why no one raised a fuss before. My gripe is that the ASG should be 100% about the players and not about the outcome of the game. How was it fair? A given year's league champion had no control over whether they were good in an odd year or even year. Just because the selection alternates evenly doesn't really make it fair in any practical sense. At least, with the current system, that team would have something resembling a fifty fifty chance in any given year. Materially, though, it's not much of a difference either way. Its fair like how a weekend visitation schedule is fair.
