  2. Not when you're immortal. :D
  3. My favorite Cubs broadcaster, Jack Brickhouse, would have been 100 years old today. His excitement and optimism became the foundation of my philosophy as a Cubs fan. His way of keeping you on the edge of your seat, even during the leaner years for the Cubs, was and is unsurpassed. "Ready now!" "Any ol' kind of a run wins it!" And, of course, the classic home run call, "Hey, Hey!" Happy Birthday, Jack. http://m.cubs.mlb.com/news/article/162718020/jack-brickhouse-would-have-been-100-on-sunday
  4. I don't know if this belongs in the minor league forum. It's sort of half and half. I've heard a lot of people talking about how this year there will be some especially difficult decisions to be made when it comes to Rule 5 and that the Cubs won't bring up Schwarber this season no matter what because they won't want to burn the 40-man roster spot on him with the impending crunch. That seemed a bit silly to me. Schwarber can be a difference maker at the plate and if the Cubs are in the hunt come August/September, I wouldn't flinch to bring him up if it was going to help the team make the playoffs and deal with the difficult 40-man decisions later. What do you guys think?
  5. I agree. Moderate risk (depending on how his medical reports are), but high reward if it pays off. If the medicals check out and there isn't a player there who the Cubs like better, I'm not letting his injury or the simple fact that he's a pitcher scare me off.
  6. McKinney is staging a strong comeback. Just a few votes away from a tie. Time for a run-off? Haven't had one of those in a while. I wonder who would win if the people who voted for Almora and others were forced to choose between Torres and McKinney. Love these votes. Thanks for doing this. Lots of fun.
  7. http://www.oudaily.com/news/2013/apr/27/baseball/ I love how he throws a 2-hitter into the 8th and is frustrated with himself.
  8. Maples pitched again in EXST today. 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R (earned), 2 BB, 5 K, 1 WP. 50 pitches (31 strikes). In an intrasquad game on 4/22 Maples went 3.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 48 pitches (30 strikes).

  10. All of those pitchers are reportedly asking for over a million dollars with Tseng rumored to be over two million. If the Cubs can't land one of those guys, going only off of what I read in their descriptions, I'd love for the Cubs to get one or more of OF Leonardo Molina, OF Luis Asuncion and/or 3B Bryan Lizardo. Molina won't come cheap either. He's a potential five-tool guy who is one of the youngest in the pool and has blazing speed. Asuncion was compared to Jorge Soler, I'm guessing slightly less athletic, who has good plate discipline and raw power. It sounded like he was one of the few on the list to "have an idea" at the plate. Lizardo sounds like a guy the Cubs would really like. He was "by far" the best defender on the list and has a good lefty handed bat. It said he likely would be the best defender at a number of positions. Currently a switch-hitter, but much weaker from the right side, and also one of the youngest in the pool. Can't sign until July 26th.
  11. So many prospects aren't playing real or any games at the moment. It's frustrating. Jackson has the toe injury. Vitters is still out. Paniagua can't get in the country. Lake is out. Vizcaino is still rehabbing. Maples is just getting started throwing. We have to wait until mid-June to see Blackburn, Underwood or McNeil pitch. Ugh.
  12. News for AZ Phil is Dillon Maples thru 3.1 innings in an intrasquad game today allowing 1 hit, no runs, no walks and 3 strikeouts. Good to see him throwing, period. It's a bonus that he was effective. Erick Leal and Josh Conway also pitched well against the D-Backs EXST squad.
  13. When I saw him this spring, I was sitting behind the radar guns. His fastball was 92-93 but he was missing with it. Apparently, he's hitting his spots now. As a lefty, if he can command a 93 mph fastball, he's got a chance if he can stay healthy...
  14. Barney looks like he's ready going 4-for-5 with a 2B and 2 runs scored. Sweeney continues to mash AAA pitching hitting his 3rd HR and adding a single while driving in 3. His line in 9 games is now .387/.441/.742 with 3 walks against 5 Ks. Watkins and Stewart were held hitless with 2 Ks each. Jackson also struck out twice going 1-for-3 with a walk, stolen base and run scored. I-Cubs pitching once again was terrible with all 4 pitchers allowing earned runs.
  15. From memory, he's not over-powering. 88-91, but deceptive. Whatever he's doing in the early going, it's working. 7.2 IP, 4H, 0 ER 2 BB, 13 K.
  16. I noticed McDaniel has Chris Okey ranked 40th. I'd be thrilled if he were there when the Cubs pick 41st. Appel/Gray and Okey would make an excellent start to the draft in my book. Hopefully, they would be battery mates for years to come.
  17. Excited for Taylor Scott. The Cubs need some arms to step up.
  18. I'm not as knowledgeable as some you guys, but my husband and I are huge cubs fans and go to ST every year. I've been following the Cubs minor league players for about 20 years now. This is the deepest group I've ever seen. I'm not sure how you define "legit prospect" but because of how many athletically talented 17-19 year olds the Cubs had in their system last year you could probably get to 50 interesting players with a chance. It's just too early to give up on their "legit prospect" status. I think we would have to go into the DSL in order to reach 50, but here are some of the names that would have to be included in that discussion. In no particular order: Jose Rosario Neftali Rosario Jose Arias Nick Struck Taylor Scott Trey Martin Ryan McNeil Dunston, Jr. Trevor Gretzky Garrett Schlecht Marco Carreno Wilson Contraras Reggie Golden James Pugliese Jose Penalver Jeffrey Baez Roney Alcala Roberto Caro Mark Malave Ricardo Marcano Luis Acosta Carlos A. Rodriguez Jose Paulino Alexander Santana Frandy De La Rosa Pedro Araujo Daury Torrez Tim Saunders I honestly don't have near enough info to discern who is a "legit prospect" from this group and if so, how to rank them. Maybe some of you in the know can help me out.
