  1. It depends if you use Baseball America's criteria or MLBs. BA does not use days on the active roster as a criterium.
  2. Haven't Connor Noland and Juan Bello also improved their prospect status this summer or does their fringy FBs make them non-prospects at least until they show something in AAA.
  3. That's great. One surgery in HS, one in college, one in the minors, and hopefully he'll get an opportunity to have one in the majors.
  4. It's encouraging that they are allowing JP to pitch multiple innings. Hopefully, the TJ recovery is going well. Mule is struggling to keep his WHIP sub-2 despite a BAA of well-below 0.200. Poster boy for the hard throwers the Cubs have drafted lately.
  5. After batting 0.158 with a 0.246 SA in April and 0.292 with a 0.333 SA in May, Christian is slashing 0.291/0.400/0.455 this month. With his patellar tendon issue over a year in the rear-view mirror, Christian may have more to offer than a 98th PCTL "exit velocity". .
  6. Efficient use of pitches by JP Wheat. He managed to hit 3 batters, walk 1 batter, strike out 1 batter, and throw a wild pitch in his 13 pitch inning. Also, the top 7 hitters in the Cubs ACL lineup have a higher OPS than any of the 9 Guardian starters.

  8. Darn he was only 6 days away from spending 1000 days in high-A; he debuted there on August 24 of 2021.
  9. While he didn't quite make my list and it's hard to take seriously a player who is in his 4th! season at the same level, you may want to add Pinango to the list and possibly Alfonsin Rosario.
  10. Pete Crow-Armstrong Cade Horton Matt Shaw Owen Caissie Kevin Alcantara Ben Brown Jordan Wicks Jackson Ferris Matt Mervis Moises Ballesteros James Triantos Alexander Canario Jefferson Rojas Brennen Davis Cristian Hernandez Daniel Palencia Jaxon Wiggins Josh Rivera Haydn McGeary Derniche Valdez Pablo Alíendo, Derniche Valdez, Luis Vazquez, Jaxon Wiggins, and Josh Rivera (21-25) Porter Hodge, Haydn McGeary, Pedro Ramirez, Caleb Killian, and Cristian Hernandez (26-30) 31-41 includes Kohl Franklin, Will Sanders, Nazier Mule, Koen Moreno, Christian Franklin, Alexis Hernandez, Ludwig Espinoza, Ezequiel Pagan, Christopher Paciolla, Brody McCullough, & Yonathan Perlaza oops. Not sure what I did here but I meant to order my list: PCA, Horton, Shaw, Caissie, Wicks, Alcantara, Ferris, Brown, Ballesteros, Canario, Rojas, Triantos, Little, Palencia, Murray, Gray, Mervis, Gallardo, Arias, Birdsell, Aliendo, Valdez, etc.
  11. Well, if he can get it to land in Wrigley Field the Cubs may notice. He's always been a polarizing prospect. When he did so poorly during his short ML stint ...

  13. Erstwhile prospect Reginald Preciado began his rehab stint in the ACL. Hopefully, his mid-game departure was part of the plan.
  14. "His overall contact rate (64%) is lower than that of any qualified big league right fielder this year and any qualified outfielder of the last 10 years except for Joey Gallo. That’s a scary detail, and is ultimately keeping Caissie off the Top 100." This is FanGraphs' rationale. "Hrubes20" may have a future as a clairvoyant.

  16. Josias Ramirez could go 1 for his next 56 and still have a batting average better than last year's 0.133.
  17. Yes it's a whole new ball game without short-season A as an option. Teams have less need to draft organizational college players to play along prospects in short-season A thus more opportunities for International Prospects to get their feet wet as 18 and 19 year olds in full-season ball. Makes more sense to draft additional arms and hope they can be turned into pitchers in various pitching labs ... and if the complex leagues disappear next summer ...
  18. I'm still going with Keith Kessinger's 2-HR game as the biggest fluke ever but I'm sure weather conditions were similar.

  21. Palma so impressed the Cubs that he repeated the AZL in 2017 after being named to the AZL all star team in 2016.
  22. Two position players who could be added include P J Higgins and Jason Vosler. One pitcher who deserves a look is Felix Pena who was a mid-season all star in the SL last year and is off to a good start at Iowa. After that workhorse Zack Hedges and former prospect Gerardo Concepcion may catch a few eyes. .. but with 2016 into May it's to the point where I'm starting to second guess some of the top 15 too.
  23. Blackburn has been in Baseball America's top 20 prospect list for the Cubs since 2014. He should be added as an option.
  24. Daury Torrez's performance is an example of why holds are one of the most misleading stats in baseball.
  25. With respect to Kellogg it will take at least until he is promoted. I've learned over the years that you rarely learn anything positive from a college pitcher's performance in the minors until they reach high-A.
