  1. I know the game, I know how to play . . . would I make a good manager? You don't have 15 years experience playing the game at a high level. (Just a guess, for all I know you could have played 15 years in the MLB, but I'm going to assume no.)
  2. Never said I would always be in favor of hiring every John Smith Cardinal off the street. But I do think that certain players display a great grasp of the game during their playing days, and a managerial position would be a logical career step. Also, it like Sandberg has zero experience. His last two minor league teams have been pretty successful. The fact that is a HoF player for the franchise is just a bonus.
  3. Sure, I think experience as a coach is over rated. If you know the game, and you know how to play the game, I think you can be successful. As a manager, the staff you surround yourself with is just as important as your independent duties.
  4. Still don't think he is as bad a candidate as you guys think. I'd be all for the Cards hiring someone like Cal Ripken Jr, and he hasn't managed a game.
  5. Surprisingly, you guys didn't react to the Sandberg new as emotionally as I thought you would. As a cards fan, I really wasn't opposed to the idea.
  6. But for the first time, I actually feel incredibly confident that we will get Theo's prime target. It all started when Tom went after Theo and got him. The dominoes have been falling in place since then. Honestly, we are 3rd choice on that list. I agree that Cardinals job will be 3rd. I see what you did there. Clever

  8. Probably wouldn't be any worse that any one we've hired in the past.
  9. I really just don't think he is as underqualified as some here seem to think. No one knows what it is like to manage in the majors, until they have actually done it? Managers with experience are unemployed for a reason.
  10. Ryno has been a minor league manager since 06. He knows the game, and from all accounts is a talented teacher. As long as we are talking experience, who are we talking?
  11. Like who? Just because someone managed and sucked, doesn't mean their experience alone should give them a job. I just don't see "experience" being as imporant to an MLB manager as it is to an equivalent position in another sport. He'll have a couple years before we are contending for a world series anyway, so he will have time to get acclimated. Won't be too long before Sandberg wants nothing to do with us.
  12. I really don't like what the Cubs are doing here. I like that they took the courtesy to let Ryno know that he won't be a candidate, but why not? He is as qualified as anyone else who they would hire. What do we really have to lose?
  13. Damn. http://aol.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2011-11-02/ryne-sandberg-reportedly-a-cardinals-managerial-candidate Looks like they were given permission too. http://www.bnd.com/2011/11/02/1926069/report-cardinals-receive-permission.html
