  1. Flaherty ran 6.45 and 6.37 60's. He'll be long gone by pick 11.
  2. Jeff Thompson is pitching for Louisville on ESPN2. Another guy to keep an eye on in this game is CF Adam Engle. He's a tremendous athlete but a very raw hitter. If his hit tool develops he can be an absolute steal in the 4-5 round range. I also like 3B Ty Young though he'll probably be moved to 2B in pro ball.
  3. It looks like Gray is pitching on Saturday. Damn
  4. Appel is flat out nasty. I absolutely love this guy.
  5. Johnathan Gray thru 5 IP: 0 hits 1 BB 8 K's
  6. Stanek had another unspectacular outing today. The stuff was there but his command was not. He had good velocity and threw a couple real nice changeups but he was missing all over the place and got away with some hanging sliders. I know they say he's a slow starter and the strike zone was a moving target for him today but he has to get better than this.
  7. Bingo. Take Trey Ball for instance. He's been a forgotten man because he didn't play fall ball, didin't go to Jupiter and didn't attend any of the winter showcases. Once his season starts if he shows a spike in velocity or improved secondary pitches he can easily be a top 10 pick. AJ Puk is another northern high school pitcher who can make a jump forward though not as high as Ball.
  8. I think Appel had some very bad representation in last years draft and I'm very happy to see it hasn't affected him in a negative way. This season could have gone sideways on him and it shows a lot of character that he didn't let that happen.
  9. Nick Burdi: 3 IP 1 H 0 R 1 BB 7 K's His max effort delivery is still a little scary.
  10. Marco Gonzales: 9 IP 8 H 0 R 0 BB 9K's against a very good Arkansas team.
  11. Appel had it all workin and he seemend to get stronger as the game went on. He threw a couple laser beams past Aaron Judge in the 9th though he got away with a hanger in his previous at bat. It will be interesting to watch if Appel can keep this going and start to erase some of the doubts some have about him.
  12. I'm watching Appel on the stream and he looks really good. Pretty much fastball/changeup then throwing a wipeout slider to put them away.
  13. Callis answered this question today. Here are his top 5 2013 and 2014 draft prospects. 1. Carlos Rodon, lhp, North Carolina State (2014 draft) His 92-96 mph fastball and his slider are unhittable. 2. Mark Appel, rhp, Stanford (2013 draft) Entered 2012 as top draft prospect, did the same this year. 3. Austin Meadows, of, Grayson HS, Loganville, Ga. (2013 draft) Grayson also has nation's top prep football prospect this year (Robert Nkemdiche). 4. Sean Manaea, lhp, Indiana State (2013 draft) Dominated Cape League with mid-90s fastball that touched 98 mph. 5. Alex Jackson, c/of, Rancho Bernardo HS, San Diego (2014 draft) Owns plus power and may be able to stay behind the plate.
  14. Alex Balog, Zimmer's teammate from last season could be that guy. Balog is a 6'6" 225 pound right hander with really good stuff but is very inconsisent. He had a nice start this weekend and if he's able to show some consistency he's a guy who can fly up draft boards.
  15. This is very disappointing news. I was really expecting Whitson to have a big season and regain his top prospect status. I hope he can be at full strength by the time SEC conference play rolls around.
  16. Enjoy watching MIchael Conforto. That Kid can really hit.
  17. I also don't think the Cubs will take Meadows #2 but I don't consider him a high risk outfielder. Matt's issue with his contact rate is more than a little overblown.
  18. That's the first I've heard Martinez being thought of that highly. This draft has some pretty good prep catchers (McGuire, Denney, Ciuffo). It's interesting that Martinez has not only jumped to the front of the line of catchers but also possibly the top prep position player ahead of Meadows and Frazier.
  19. I like Appel a lot. He has everything you look for in a pitcher. Size, arm strength, good mechanics and pitchability. Sure he has some things to work on but it's nothing that a little professional instruction won't fix. Appel is going to be a very good pro pitcher.
  20. I think Whitson is going to have a monster season and come June he's going to be right in the middle of the 1-1 discussion.
  21. I watched Touki throw 3 straight at 96 in Jupiter. Then he threw an absolutely hellacious curveball to Oscar Mercado. He could be the next Dwight Gooden.
  22. Hoyer drafted Whitson when he was the GM at San Diego but couldn't sign him. If I remember there was a deal in place but it broke down at the eleventh hour and Whitson ended up at Florida. I'm not sure if either side has hard feelings but you have to wonder if they want to go down that road again.
  23. Ask if they are going to draft the best player available or if they are going to address organizational needs (pitching) in next years draft.
  24. Tony Cingriani is a Reds prospect.
