Don't know that I'd go that far. I mean, I suppose if you REALLY buy into defensive metrics and you also buy that they're not being heavily inflated right now by the shifts. I know there's some significant effect right now, but I'm not sure how much. Yeah, Barney is a great defender with a decent bat, but I'm not buying him as a 3-5 WAR player. I'm taking the defensive metrics with a grain of salt, to be sure. I think Barney's ceiling could be Omar Vizquel. By no means a bad player to have in hand, especially at the price; still, if somebody wants to send us a guy who's ceiling is a front end starter, you take it without thinking twice. Especially when your farm system is full of high ceilign middle infielders and devoid of starting pitching. Barney's ceiling is a HOF defender?
