  1. LOL. Is that your standard? BTW, welcome to the board Mr Hat (or do you prefer Red?) I see you joined on Friday the 13th!!! Sure you ain't a Cub fan? 8-[
  2. Shows how unreliable Gameday is. They didn't miss by a lot, but they were balls. No one seems to want to be on base tonight. They'd rather get picked off or caught stealing. I'm in no mood for a yawner...I need some action soon. :beg:
  3. You are correct, Sir. That defense is suspect.
  4. All I know is that it ain't being aired on Lamar @ Belvue!
  5. The benchings for the Brewers game (Berkman, Jay, Descalso, Molina) were to get the platoon advantage since it was a LHP and a standard catcher rest day. The Reds benchings were due to Berkman being injured and to give Beltran and Freese an extra day off since they are huge injury risks. Rookie Matt Carpenter hit .316 .412 .487 .900 and .300 .417 .463 .880 in his first time through AA and AAA and I assume that Matheny is smart enough to understand that protection doesn't exist. Pretty straightforward managing actually. Descalso is the only Cardinal that can't hit same arm pitching. Berkman's a switch hitter and Molina, and nobody else needs a rest 3 days into the season.....because Carpenrer hit good in the minors he bats cleanup instead of the HR, RBI and base hit league leader Freese? I can't believe that anyone thinks that's a good Idea.
  6. The Cardinals will be pumped on their opening day return to St. Louis. The crowd will be loud, the weather fair. They have gotten over the "loss" of their hero already as the bats have been hot...very hot. Between Freese, Molina, Furcal and Beltran they lead the NL in just about every offensive catagory. Their starting pitching has been solid, the defense improved by subtraction. (Theriot and Schumaker) But they have an Achilles heel...like all teams they cannot hit great pitching. The 2 losses has come facing Grienke and Cueto. So it's up to Cub pitching to keep the games close. If the Cubs can split the 1st 2 games there's a very good chance of winning the series: for the final game of both the Reds and Brews series', Matheny BENCHED 4 and then 3 starters in favor of rookies, ala Tony LaRussa's getaway day "strategy". He acually put rookie Matt Carpenter in the cleanup spot to face Cueto to "protect" Holliday. Since he got the job w/o a day of managing at any professional level, I guess he has a LOT to learn.
  7. 2nd time around, Strausberg is meat.
  8. If this keeps up I won't make it to the 5th
  9. We'll get to Strausburg the 2nd time around.
  10. Gameday Mini is working for me. ESPN gamecast is working, so I'll stay there for this one. FYI...CBS Sports Gamecast is the best. It features sound effects for strikeouts, runs and HR's. You can walk away from the PC and still know when something happens. ;)
  11. Cubs get off on the right foot vs. what could be a pretty scrappy team today. I watched Strasburg's return start last week and he was far from being tough. The Cardinals slapped him around pretty good. In THIS game I go with Dempster. Cubs win 7-3 8-)
  12. yes, it is very unlikely that the cardinals have a pitcher in the minor leagues who could be as good as roy oswalt would be this year. if so, that pitcher would be in the major leagues pitching every fifth day. I don't see where you get all this confidence in Oswalt. The man is damaged goods. Damaged goods that had a 3.69 ERA last year pitching half his games in Philly and lead the league in WHIP while placing 6th in the Cy Young vote in 2010. Here's a list of qualifying rookie starting pitchers that had a better ERA than Oswalt last year: Jeremy Hellickson 3.69 is good for him? With the best team in baseball behind him?

  14. You would have a player on your team that will cost you games as long as he was FREE? C'mon! Truffle said "He was worth 2.5 fWAR (in 139IP) last year and 4.7 in 2010 (in 211IP)." I said: LAST year. I don't think he will get better with age. He wants a ton of cash and will clog a roster spot for some pitcher with a future. The Reds and Cards love to sign veteran geezers tho'....we will see. Truffle said "that's not really relevant when you said that you wouldn't even take him if he were free. and considering that he was worth 7 wins the last 2 years, you're going out on a pretty shaky limb to say that he'd be a negative win pitcher in 2012 " So no other pitcher could match his wins for less money and a future? I'll stand on my shaky limb. 8-)
  15. well that is pretty stupid then. Really? You would have a player on your team that will cost you games as long as he was FREE? C'mon! He was worth 2.5 fWAR (in 139IP) last year and 4.7 in 2010 (in 211IP). LAST year. I don't think he will get better with age. 16. The Cubs are closer than you think. Removed from the equasion: Fielder, Pujols/LaRussa, Carpenter and Madsen. (and a quite possibly deminished Braun) Not saying the Cubs win it, but there is reason to believe that thay can make it interesting. Will you settle for "interesting"? edit: Out of curiosity I looked up Braun. He is batting .095

  18. It looks like Carpenter is through. Too old to run the surgery route again. I don't think Oswalt is an option. I know I would not sign the guy! Not even if he pitched for free.
