  1. If they're going to have Floyd covering guys like Kamara 20-30 yards down the field he's going to have to learn to play the ball better. But speed wise he was right with him the whole way. If a safety, corner or pass coverage linebacker probably could've knocked that pass down.
  2. Lol what a dumb challenge. How did the ball fly like 15 yards forward if his hand wasn't moving forward. He should've challenged the Ingram fumble.
  3. It's one thing when you're nursing a lead. Completely different when you've probably got to score at least 14-15+ more in one quarter to win.
  4. Come.on. Trubisky throws a 30 yard TD so you go back to 2 runs to start. Awful.
  5. This defense is playing great
  6. Yeah wtf. The rules guy in the booth couldn't even come up with anything to cover for the refs. That doesn't happen often.
  7. Man screw all these first down runs. So predictable.
  8. As Derwood notes, I doubt the Steelers are interested in moving him for a nothing return just to appease him. They went deep in the playoffs last year and have a very good team this year. Schefter's trade was for a 5th, so maybe that could get it done, but I wouldn't give him up for that if I was the Steelers. Part of the equation is that I don't see anyone on the market next year that has close to the talent/fit combination. He doesn't have eye popping production, but the physical attributes he brings could be offense-changing stuff. And what he did his rookie year on a per catch basis was pretty eye popping. I'm generally in the camp of leaving guys who are a headache alone, but right now an impact receiver would completely change the offense. And drafting a receiver, even in the first couple rounds, is an extremely dicey way to try and get immediate production. This guy has been playing in a great passing offense with a great QB for a three years and has another year on suspension where he was probably looking at tape. But is only 25. He's a guy you should probably expect to produce very good numbers immediately if you force feed him the ball. And if you force feed him the ball I doubt he's going to have a lot of attitude issues. I could be completely wrong though, and it seems most likely that they won't get him. But I think he fits much better than going after a guy like Landry for the slot or Alshon who is another big slow jump ball guy with injury issues, like White and Meredith. He's potentially a headache, but he's also a potential game changer. And as far as the suspension is concerned, this guy is try to get his big contract. I highly doubt he's going to get himself suspended again and lose out on that. And this is the NFL, so you can sign him and write some language into his contract that voids it if he gets suspended. He hasn't done so much that he'll demand an astronomical contract. The risk to me on a 4th or even 3rd rounder (with an extension probably if it's a 3rd) isn't near as high as the upside. Plus, there is potential upside to giving Trubisky a prima donna right out of the gate. This is his team, so they just tell him that he's to control the huddle. And there are going to be weird personalities you have to deal with. So here's an outlandish guy who wants targets. The team's strategy involves giving him those targets, but it's your prerogative how you want to handle his personality, Mitch. Be a leader, keep him in line.
  9. He likes drugs. The NLF does not. Fyi So you're dismissing him out of hand because of the possibility of another failed test?
  10. Either way, I'm excited about Inman. That neck makes him sound taller than he is, but he seems to play very big. Good vertical, catches the ball away from his body. Then seems to run pretty good routes and has some good open field ability for a big guy. If they don't get another WR this year he'll make himself a lot of money as the #1 I'd think.
  11. So Schefter lead off his "trades I think would be fun" article on ESPN with Bears trading for Martavis Bryant. I hadn't been following the NFL much the last couple years, so I didn't really know much about him. Knew he was struggling a bit this year, had some potential, but didn't care enough about his situation to check out any video. Certainly didn't know he score 8 TDs and had 549 yards on only 26 receptions his rookie year. But I just watched this video and I think they should get him for sure if it takes something like a 4th/5th rounder or even more if required. He's got one more year on his contract, is fast, and has really good open field skills for 6'4 guy. Some good spots: - 0:55 - catches a 10 yard slant at Steelers 20, reverses field and runs away from a crowd for 90 yard TD - 2:41 - pushes past the corner to make a grab in stride on a fly then turns on the jets - 3:04 - takes a reverse on left side, cuts it back right, makes a few guys miss and runs away for a 65 yard gain (another good reverses at 3:22 and 1:40) - Sideline TD tight rope catches: 1:15 and 4:00 This guy catches the ball and runs away from people consistently, has jump ball skills, can navigate traffic and make cut backs, and make catches by the sideline. He's 6'4 and some of those open field runs look like Cohen. He's been a pain in the ass this year for sure, but I don't think you assume he'll be a clown on the Bears. He'd be the unquestioned #1 receiver and could easily get 10 targets a game with nobody batting an eye. And he would fit in well with Meredith, as much more of speed threat while also combining for a tall group. I don't know that much about his character, but I could see why he'd be frustrated about getting only 5 targets a game (and 5 the last two combined). Bring him here, make him #1, maybe even extend him along with the trade. He'll naturally be happy and excited about his new opportunity, and behave well in the locker room. Then if sometime down the road you get someone better and have to stop getting him 10 targets a game you can worry about his potential bad attitude then. TL;DR - I'm hoping they get Martavis Bryant. Check out that video!
  12. Good Inman article with clips https://beargoggleson.com/2017/10/26/what-does-dontrelle-inman-bring-to-chicago-bears/
  13. having a stud secondary is so f-in cool Mike Brown Tony Parrish days Totally. Both made the PFF team of the week, along with Trevathan. https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-nfl-2017-week-7-team-of-the-week Also, found this on reddit showing Floyd is tied for 8th most tackles at or behind the line in the last 4 games, with 7. Hicks has had 6 in that timeframe. They're tied for 9 on the season, which is 23rd in the league
  14. I'm not spiking the football saying it's a success already. I jumped in on a comment saying that Pace hasn't done well stocking the offense. If someone said to you in mid 2014 that the Theo hasn't done a good job stocking the team did you just say "hey it's incomplete, who knows what will happen." Or did you say "there are a lot of guys I like and they're going to be good once these guys come up and hit their stride?" I'm not looking at the results so far and saying Pace demands credit for it but I do think Pace has gotten the pieces. So to me, it seems like a pick a lane situation. Do you think that these guys are going to pan out or not? If not then by all means hammer Pace. But if you're a wait and see type then give Pace a wait and see grade rather than being critical. Also I bet one bajillion internet dollars that they don't go 3-6 down the stretch. I'd be evaluating the season right now with the thought that 7-9 the floor but most likely is .500 or greater.
  15. it is fair to wonder that, but i still don't expect this watson thing to last. he's made a lot of dangerous throws that he's gotten lucky with, hasn't faced very good pass defenses, and, at least in the kc game, piled up numbers in garbage time. /watson rant i'm fully ready to look like an idiot on this but i'm not giving up yet. i should probably add that i'm heavily biased w/watson bc i tend to always root against winnability guys, especially when it's people touting college winnability (i.e. the tebow supporters early on). if people say "he just knows how to win" about a player, i probably (unfairly) don't like that player but watson has played legitimately well so far. Just to be on record, I did like Watson enough that I wanted him over any defensive player if Trubisky was gone. Just liked Trubisky better, and think there's much less risk and higher upside with him. Although I wanted him I wasn't sure he was a championship level QB. That's where I may have been wrong, or I may have been wrong to want him at all. I'll be pulling for him either way.
  16. You're a follower of the minor leagues. You've got prospects you like that haven't proven anything at the major league level. When the Cubs were still losing but had some of these guys in the minors were you giving the FO credit? NFL isn't the exact same thing but I see prospects I like, that I have faith in, so I'm evaluate Pace as having done a good job. My grade on Trubisky is still that he's going to be awesome. If your grade is "incomplete" then you evaluate Pace differently. If people want to give Pace an "incomplete pending the performance of the QB" I'm ok. But any evaluation of what he's done with the offense starts with the QB he selected. So I just don't see how you give a negative grade on the GM's building of the offense while giving an incomplete grade on the QB, when young QB is such a big part of the offensive equation. The overall grade should incomplete or you should give the pick/QB a grade based on what we know already and factor that grade into your evaluation of Pace.
  17. Others don't have to give him credit yet but I will. People didn't believe in him in November, at the draft and many now. I wanted Trubisky before the draft, I was happy they moved up for him and I'm happy they have him now over Watson. So in my world, Pace is a winner. If you're going to criticize or give credit you go by your own evaluation. I'm a believer in Trubisky, so I give Pace full credit for getting him. But whether you got him or Watson, show me how many guys in this board and in general wanted something like an Adams/Thomas/Allen/trade down coupled with a Kizer, Peterman, whoever dropped type in the second? I think you've got to give him credit for just taking a QB who by whatever evaluation looks like he will eventually be pretty good.
  18. He could have kept Cutler and drafted Trubisky. True, for the success of year's team it looks like Cutler would've been much better than Glennon. And then he got hurt which would've provided an easy in for Trubisky. I just don't know 1. how Cutler's presence would have impacted Trubisky and 2. If the Bears could've smoke screened the league adequately with Cutler as their top QB. Maybe that second one isn't important, maybe it would've been better if they'd stayed where they were, kept Cutler and gotten Watson. But I liked the idea of getting Trubisky and if the Glennon thing was part of what Pace thought he had to do then I'm all for taking the short term pain of that turnover machine derailing the 2017 season to get the QB you want long term. If that wasn't a concern then you've only really got the lockerroom Cutty issue which would have worked itself out when he got injured. So maybe that wouldn't have been a big deal. If the smokescreen part wasn't a thing then I could see this Glennon experiment as a bit of a blunder. Either way though, long term I think both sides of ball are in good shape.
  19. One thing you can't overlook when you talk about the offense is Trubisky. One path a GM could have taken was to keep Cutler, who would now probably be hobbling around the Bears sideline. Then a stop gap back up or maybe some 2-4 round QB, like Kizer or the twice cut already Brad Kaaya. Instead, Pace did what many thought he wouldn't and traded up to get a QB. Then you've got Howard, Cohen, Whitehair, and potentially Shaheen as good young players that have been picked up in in the last couple years. Throw in Meredith too. That's a pretty good pile of guys. And again, key to it all was getting this QB. I think just that will be as important as a handful potential defensive impact players. I've been out of the country so I've only seen highlights of the last two and can't totally comment on how Trubisky has looked, but nothing that happened these two weeks was going to change my opinion much anyway. I think he'll be real good and then the concept of Pace not stocking the offense should go away in fairly short order. It may take til next year to get a top half of the league offense but with a couple receivers this will be a top offense too, I personally think, and with most of this same personnel.
  20. Yeah I was definitely not expecting the defensive turn around to be this fast, hopefully they don't go Angelo and wait till these guys are all past their prime to get an offense. I wouldn't call 3 years in, fast. Especially when they haven't improved the offense at all in that time. 3 drafts and 3 free agent seasons is plenty of time to make a unit above average. It's fast when the most of the defense is filled with young talent, you have key young building blocks at RB and QB, and a solid to upper tier O-line with some youth. It's one thing to turn it around with older FAs or short contract guys but the vast majority of the impact players on the team are young. The offense hasn't clicked partially because the QB just played in his second game, partially because the coach is junk and partially because one group (WR) is holding it back. Fixing one position is pretty easy. The whole rest of the team looks ready to beast and they could probably just resign guys and be good for a while. I think it's time to give Pace some credit.
  21. I still think should've won that 2016 Cy Young. All good though. Just glad Joe knows what he's got.
  22. I'm going to say this doesnt happen. Yeah I've given up guessing that they WILL put Mitch in, but it seems like the obvious thing to me. Especially if they are planning to give him the Vikes game. What's one more week of preparation when you've got a slim chance to not be 1-3? I don't subscribe to the idea that Mitch is going mentally crumble with a loss, especially one that's Glennon dug him into. It's a no lose situation for him as far as potential media criticism.
  23. It's almost like this decision is set up on a tee for Pace/Fox. Glennon gives the ball away twice in hilarious fashion in the first quarter and you're only down 14 with the ball at midfield and three quarters to play. You didn't have to wait til the half when the Packers might have you down by three plus scores to get that breather. You got to give Glennon one last shot and he horsefeathers himself again. Take the break mother nature gave you and let Mitch lead the team out of the rain delay and try to win this thing.
  24. Ohhhh that's delicious. One time a few years back, in the 2014/2015 offseason I was talking to a friend of a friend Cardinals fan about how good the Cubs were going to be. He lives in Chicago and has a tendency to be nice and placating, so this time he went on a thing about "I hope the Cubs are good, I really do." I was like "you really don't. It's gonna happen and you're going be sad for a bunch of years." I'm not sure what that guy is doing these days but I'm guessing that watching the Cubs dump beer all over their visitors lockerroom isn't especially enjoyable. I wonder how many Cards fans said patronizing stuff like that to Cubs fans in the years leading up to 2015 and I'm kinda hoping it stings a little more or that they blame themselves for jinxing the team or something. But mostly I'm just happy the schedulers set it up this way. Peace out Cardinals! Comeuppance is bitch!
  25. The Baez doesn't know anyone's name ended up producing the most hearty baseball lol I've ever had.
